I think you must start now. Before April 1st, I heared that this year H1B cap will be full begining of month of April. This is good thing that you are working on CPT. USCIS just need your work aouthorisaztion.

You have to talk to your employer that you want to apply for H1B visa and ask them that they are willing to apply or not. Legal Shield must have done this many times and should have lawyers who can give you more suggestions in this matter. What you have to do is go and talk to your employer ASAP because the USCIS starts taking H1b visa application from april 1 and you have to be ready to file it within march only. otherwise there is always next year. its good that you have knowledge about H1B before you gradate. coz after you graduate in may form ECU you can ask your employer that he would sponsor your h1b or not. if not then take a decision.
1. you want to continue working on OPT, gain some experience and join masters and then apply for h1b after doing masters. that way when you can apply for greencard in EB2
2. leave the job and start looking for a company that would sponsor your h1b.
Good luck my friend
