Important Notice for Nepalese who is still holding old hand-written Passport

Your old hard-written passport needs to be replaced by new Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) by November 24, 2015

This is a notice to all those who are still holding or using hand-written passports to convert them into Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) by November 24, 2015 as per the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Accordingly, none of the handwritten passports will be valid after November 24, 2015, therefore all those concerned should convert their old passports into MRPs before they apply for visas to foreign countries. The new MRPs will also help the travelers avoid inconveniences arising from using handwritten passports in future.

As a passport normally should have at least six months validity to obtain foreign visas, it is advisable to get MRPs passports prior to November 24, 2015.

MRPs can be obtained from Nepalese Embassy (Washington DC).

The application for MRPs needs to be on an A4 size (29.7 cm x 21.1 cm) application form otherwise it will be rejected therefore it is advisable to go to the Nepalese Embassy to fill up the form. However if it is not possible to be present in person, then the applicant should send a (9" x 12" size) prepaid return envelope to the Embassy, clearly showing the return address to the following

Mailing address:

Embassy of Nepal 2131 Leroy Place N.W., Washington, DC 20008
