I was trying to send some money to Nepal and after a brief research, I found out that bank would be the best way to do so. Now I see that they require swift code of the bank to do so. My parents live out of valley and has account in Agriculture Development bank(Krishi Bank). I see that banks in nepal have swift code to only located in Kathmandu locations. SO if i use that swift code and wire money using my parents account number, will they be able to withdraw out of valley ??
Anyone with experience sending money to Nepal? Also the bank doesn't disclose the exchange rate that they would get in Nepal.. What rate does they get back home? Is it the regular rate on that particular day or they give it less as Moneygram or Wester union do?

AFAIK and from my past experience, you have to pay a fee and your parents will also pay some fee. When they wired me, they paid 1500 RS back there and when I received the amount, my bank(BOA) also deducted $12 as some fee. When you pay the bank, the exchange rate is locked at that moment. So, I think western union will be the way to go. I always google promotional discount to waive the transfer fee and its faster, easy and convenient.

Thank You hamrosajha.. I am trying to send about 20k and western union has limitation on amount you send per month or each transaction. Also the rate they pay is always lower then the regular rate. Since the amount is bigger, I am trying to find the safe and convenient way to do so. I know bank of america charges $45 here but not sure on other end. Anyone else with similar experience please enlighten me...

The best bet is to call the Krishi bank and get the answer regarding receiving the fund and transfer receiving fee.
Also, be informed that 20k will surely be a red flag for your dad's account. Hope the bank doesn't grill him for the source or call some authority.

A recent experience through BoA - around 40K. NO problem.
BoA charges 45 and there might be some fee in Nepal, but its minimal and you will not see the difference.
My suggestion - And PLEASE FOLLOW IT...never send in the local currency otherwise you will get very low exchange rate. SEND in dollars ...and you bank in Nepal will convert and give the amount.
The exchange rate they might follow is for the day when they receive money.
No matter what part of Bank you send money in Nepal, first it goes to the HQ branch probably in Kathmandu and then it goes to the branch where person holds the A/C.

Well, in my case my dad a/c was in Kathmandu but not in HQ, so the manager (who is a family frd) told us this and it took 4-5 day.

here is the swift code...AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT BANK LTD KATHMANDU ADBLNPKA ...And I think my dada bank was the same.

Thanks a lot Stupida.. Really appreciate your valuable info..
Do they need any kind of info in nepal for the source of that transaction . I will be sending it from bank of america here . Its for a family emergency and I will be getting cash from friends which I will deposit into my account and send. Do they require proof of those deposits in here or in nepal?

Sorry this is my first time and i REALLY NEED TO DO IT ASAP

Nothing; Nepal doesn't care as long as money goes IN, bringing out is another story.
However, while I did a transfer online through BoA, somewhere in the step it has a place where you put "reason for sending" and it gives you either bunch of options or you type your one.

Don't think too much; just go online and initiate a transfer.
