With some experience and/or knowledge in the topic, here is my contribution. If you send via FedEx, DHL, or UPS, you will pay everything here, including any custom free, which I don't think will be much for 2 pound food item. I inquired shipnex last time which uses Fedex, DHL, and UPS, and they quoted better or discounted price compared to getting quote directly from individual shipping companies. However, you need to have account with them before you can make business with them, which is free, but takes like a day or so. Search for more as there might be other companies like that where you may get good rate.

If you're thinking about sending via USPS, your family will have to pick up at the post office at Sundhara, Kathmandu, if it's sent to kathmandu. AND on top of that the postal worker there are notorious at giving unnecessary headache to anyone picking up items there, especially if you send high dollar items. (they know what's inside as they do open your package!!!)
Also I dont' think that there's a good air conditioned warehouse at Central Post office in Kathmandu where they keep packages until they are picked up. So for perishable items, that's not a good idea.
In other words, until the Central Post Office at Sundhara is updated including workers there reprimanded or fired for unethical works (basically stealing or extorting money illegally), it's best to send via other shipping companies.
Hope that gives you some idea.

thank you bro haru for your suggestions. it really helped me. I sent it through FedEx. It was an emergency. I paid 107 bucks for a priority type. It reached there within a week and was tracked all the way till Nepal. I really liked the service. I had mentioned the value of 100 bucks so my receiver had to pay Rs 3900 as Tax.
