Sorry bro it's a renewal for the existing ones not adding new ones by uscis. But take this as a life lesson in the future when you are not sure but doesn't hurt to initiate, just go ahead and initiate.

Thanks for the response. Called USCIS and I was told I will be eligible for late initial filing according to the requirements if TPS is extended: 1. During either the initial registration period of your country’s designation or during any subsequent initial registration period if your country was re-designated you met one of the following conditions, and you register while the condition still exists or within a 60-day period immediately following the expiration or termination of such condition -You were a nonimmigrant, were granted voluntary departure status, or any relief from removal -You had an application for change of status, adjustment of status, asylum, voluntary departure, or any relief from removal which was pending or subject to further review or appeal -You were a parolee or had a pending request for re-parole -You are a spouse of an individual who is currently eligible for TPS 2.Continuous residence

@Ameet These are listed on the USCIS website itself, so If you can prove any of the above case existed during the initial registration period for you, your case should be approved. Best of Luck.

aneesh , the big take away is our TPS was not redesignated just extended so i don't think if you did not file during the initial registration period you do into qualify. This extension allows eligible Nepalese nationals (and aliens having no nationality who last habitually resided in Nepal) to retain TPS through June 24, 2018, so long as they otherwise continue to meet the eligibility requirements for TPS. The Secretary has determined that an extension is warranted because conditions in Nepal supporting its designation for TPS continue to be met.

Like fdpower said , the key here is whether it is 're designated' for the people who were not in US prior to June 24 2016. I don't think they re designated ...Just 'extended' through June 2018 for existing TPS holder. The info will be in federal register tomm..

@fdpower @edipre We are talking about Late Initial Filing for TPS, which ameet should be eligilbe if he meets the conditions listed. But Re-designation is a different thing which would allow more people to file for TPS. Reference: Late Initial Filing for TPS You can apply for TPS for the first time during an extension of your country’s TPS designation period. If you qualify to file your initial TPS application late, you must still independently meet all the TPS eligibility requirements listed in the Eligibility section above.
