Hey Guys,

I have a friend coming to the US soon and I want him to bring me some books published in Nepal (it can be fiction, non-fiction, social commentary, essay, anything). I am wondering if you guys know of any Nepali books that are "must read" (expecially the ones published in the last five years). I have been here in the US for a while now and haven't been reading much Nepali literature lately. Help out!

tulip.

My List so far:
1. Palpasa Cafe - Narayan Wagle
2 . ...

trojan Tulip, guys have already suggested you some very good books. I want to add one, called "NIRBASAN" by Teknath Rijal, the leader from Bhutan who is fighting for rights of Bhutani Nepalese. Nepalese identity is in crisis both inside and outside Nepal. Nothing is painful than the case of Bhutani Nepali. Recently there have been some comments about this book in different publications. Most recent is a comment titled "RIJAL, NIRBASAN RA PIDA published in PATHAK PATRA of Kantipur daily yesterday.

I heard Baburam Bhattarai has a new book about a democratic republic versus a monarhcy - not sure who the publisher is or when it was/will be published but it might make for an interesting read.
