As we all know, the new government has called back 12 Nepalese ambassadors from different countries. Those include some who were blind supporter of King's move and crossed the dimplomatic norms speaking against the democratic movement. And, I guess there are some who just pursued as impartial diplomat.

In this situation, I guess the government may reassign some of them or find new persons for remaining countries. There was sort of tradition of making appointment of persons from both bureaucrats (career diplomats from Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and those intellecutals affiliated to the party in government.

Many, in this situation are advising to appoint persons who will be capable of purusing economic diplomacy and can represent New Ddemocratic Nepal. I have seen people advocating for Political Scientist and Social Scientists (especiall the Economists) who are professors in the Universities should get priority.

But, as being a Graduate Student in a US school, I had opportunity to look closely the working of Nepali (at TU) and other Professors, I have feeling that they are good for a specific project only ( they can be assigned as the Advisor to NPC, not even the NPC members). I believe that opportunity should be given to career diplomats and bureaucrats who are clean, have experience in negotiating with the donors and understand the problem and constrainsts of the country.

What do you guys think ?

Gamle

What about you, Gamlejee? Would you be interested in heading the Nepalese mission in DC? Or somehwere else? Do you have a preference?
Or do you have somebody in mind?
For TU profesors and other professionals you are talking about, you certainly don't know everybody. You may be right about the few people you got to know, but there are far better people as are there poorer people --like anywhere else. You can look at Faculty at Harvard or Princeton, Stanford or Syracuse and still not everyone is the same--they have different kinds of achievements and you could rank them based on what you are looking for. I am not suggesting you could compare TU faculty with any other--of course there are questions of resources, opportunities, etc. etc.--but there are obviously differences everywhere. So don't under-estimate Nepali professionals. There are good ones as are not so good ones, virtually everywhere. How do you know how capable or corrupt one is unless the person is assigned the right responsibility?
See ya, Lonely1

Gamle, again, with reference to your evaluation of the 12 ambassadors called back. You said there were some blind supporters of the king and others just "impartial diplomat" (sic). I don't think any one of the 12 was "impartial". Can you point out this impartial one for our information?

lonely1 jee,

I do not consider myself a good fit person for such person. I still have to complete my theoretical studies and I have to work at least 10 years in Nepal ( at least 5 of those should be relating to district level) before I can be a potential for such task. I would not agree that a person with PhD from Harvard, MIT or anyother top schools should be given such task right after their degree , they should have real qualification of knowing the Nepal in true sense.

You are right, there may be some such intellectuals from academics, but that was purely my perception. And, that I got from my experience while I was a grad student in one of the Central Department in TU that supplies vice-chairman and members to NPC. They have good theoretical background and skills and capacity to work in a specific project, what they lack is the capacity to look at the problem in a broader perspective.

Yes there may be some people in US or other countries from Nepal now working in academics and as professionals in various field. They can also be potential if they have worked enough in public sector while in Nepal.

On "the ambassadors who were impartial" i concede my lack of research about the individuals, but I did not read anything about Shyamananda Suman in Quatar and Pushkar Man Singh Rajbhandari in Pakistan. But, you may be right all of those 12 may have been involved. My concern was 'who should be assigned now'?
