These bhaunis are so desperate they marry anything and everything. Take a look! This is what an Indian bhauni did. A woman who fell in love with a snake has reportedly married the reptile at a traditional Hindu wedding celebrated by 2,000 guests in India's Orissa state. Bimbala Das wore a silk saree for the ceremony Wednesday at Atala village near the Orissa state capital Bhubaneswar. Priests chanted mantras to seal the union, but the snake failed to come out of a nearby ant hill where it lives, the Press Trust of India (PTI) said. A brass replica snake stood in for the hesitant groom. "Though snakes cannot speak nor understand, we communicate in a peculiar way," Das, 30, told the agency. "Whenever I put milk near the ant hill where the cobra lives, it always comes out to drink. "I always get to see it every time I go near the ant hill. It has never harmed me," she added. Villagers welcomed the wedding in the belief it would bring good fortune and laid on a feast for the big day. Snakes and particularly the King Cobra are venerated in India as religious symbols worn by Lord Shiva, the god of destruction. Das, from a lower caste, converted to the animal-loving vegetarian Vaishnav sect whose local elders gave her permission to marry the cobra, the world's largest venomous snake that can grow up to five metres. "I am happy," said her mother Dyuti Bhoi, who has two other daughters and two sons to marry off. "Bimbala was ill," Bhoi told local OTV channel. "We had no money to treat her. Then she started offering milk to the snake ... she was cured. That made her fall in love." Das has moved into a hut built close to the ant hill since the wedding. Earlier this year, a tribal girl was married off to a dog on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

Dude I don't know if you are trying to be satarical or if you are just plain dumb but either way a quote from your post: "Das, from a lower caste, converted to the animal-loving vegetarian Vaishnav sect whose local elders gave her permission to marry the cobra, the world's largest venomous snake that can grow up to five metres." it says Das from a lower caste. Well if you are naive enough not to understand what that means no one can help u unless you are like 6 years old. But if you are blaming this on hindu bahunis in a synical way then dude you are a psycho!

some Newari girls also marry to "Bel", a kind of fruit covered with a hard shell. I don't know if every caste of Newar such as Pradhan, Bajracharya, Shrestha, Pode, Kapali all have to marry with Bel or just some castes who are Hindu only.

it's silly if we think abt marrying girl to "bel", but then its like "bratabanda"...a culture....that people want to follow...unless it's offensive to anyone, i don't think it should be a big issue....

i was not aware about it: so, it's like "Bratabanda", not the marriage? But how come, a girl go through "Bratabanda"? Do Newari boys also go through Bratabanda? Is it limited to Hindu Newar only?

Of all the snakes to marry, this broad chose a cobra? This union won't last long though, once the cobra gets pissed, bites her in the face, and she dies slowly from the poison. I wonder if that'll fall under the domestic abuse category? There are just so many things wrong about this union.

first of all I dont see it relating to 'desperate" thing at all because the story doesnt mention that, she wasnt desperate to get married, she married with the "snake" becuase she thought it was a luck. hard to believe, its really strange and secondly, it does NOT relate to hindus, who are you to say these stuff to any religion, be it hindu or christain, just because that woman married doesnt mean "hindus" would marry snake for luck. cant believe how stupid people can get. for me this story doesnt even mean like a marriage to me, she probably wanted to respect the snake so sacrificed her life to it, do you even know the purpose of marriage? would she be able to share her feelings to it? make love with it? its just plain stupid! Anywayss keep your BS posts with yourself, stupid creature. this maybe just oone of the world records. lol. so if a christain woman married a woman, would that mean christain women are so desperate that they marry women? stupid stupid stupidest person, you1
