I graduate in May'06. I majored in Economics. I have received some job offers but none of them are guarantying H1B. Everyone steps back when I tell them that I cannot work for 3 months after my OPT expires in July 2007. I am just wondering what are the class of 2006 doing? Are you guys going to graduate school? Struggling to find a good fit like me? It is very frustrating. How reliable are these Indian IT Consulting companies? They sound too good to be true. what are you thoughts on this issue guys?

I have just signed up with one Indian consulting company. I did masters in accounting and finance just this may. I have already filed my H1 for this year cos i dont want to go thru next years quata . My opt expires opn 07/15/07 so didnt want to risk status from 07/15/07 to 10/01/07. I dont have gained any experienced on my own yet but thru some ppl i know who are with those consultancy, its not that bad. They seem to handle something that we cant handle on our own.

I recently found out that these Indian companies manipulate your resume. They will increase you age so that you can lie that you have many years of work experience. The system seems to work fine. I can see how it might work for technical ppl but as for Business Analyst…i don’t see it happening. Personally, I would rather go to graduate school than have a job that is based on a lie. It is coz of these damn ppl that the quota of H1 B got filled within 7 weeks this year. Some ppl I know who went through these ppl do have H1B already but don’t have a job yet. It is so unfair. W….massseducion - You are a double major in Accounting and Finance….are you kidding me? That is awesome. I see so many opportunities for accounting ppl. Since you are already a grad student, it should be easier for you. Try accounting firms, they need your skill.

Vaque, Who said you can't work for 3 months after your OPT expires in july 2007? That's just B.S. You just can't get paid. There's a difference between not being able to work and not being able to get paid.

he will have to either go out of the country and come back once the h1 kicks in or will have to join school for that period. The best option is to get I 20 thru training institute such as Kaplan for short term.

I have talked to few employers..it is against the law to work in that 3 months. It is illegal due to Fair Act employment sth like that. But again , I also know few companies who are flexible. Getting I-20 through Kalpan is risky. My visa and my OPT will expire in July 2007. I thougt I would have to leave the country to get H1B visa or F1visa again. Are you sure I can renew my visa here in US? This whole damn process is so confusing. I am just thinking...there are so many Nepalese students in US..how are ppl maintaining their status.

Vague, A friend of mine gradauted from here and started working but unfortunately the company didnt want to apply for H1B. He worked till the OPT expired. He, then, admitted to graduation class. He started searching other jobs simultaneously. Later, he got a job. He asked his employer to file H1B first. Company filed the H1B and he started working there. Everything is fine. So I think you dont have to worry. But it depends on how easily you get the job. All the best.
