Mike Bibby do you know how to read? Go and read again. "I am in KTM"

I'm not some loser sitting cosily behind his computer in some foreign country and pretending to know everything that's good for Nepal and Nepalis.

Next time learn to read before you open your mouth.

Ratobhaley
it all depends on how much $$$ u have.
Generally speaking Toyota is best in Kathmandu . . . for several reasons
1. Availability of parts
2. Good resale value
3. Efficient
And best of all, it suits everyone's budget. You can buy a Toyota no matter how much money u've got. Well of course if you are ready to buy a used cars too. Corolla of 1985 make would cost something like 200,000 NRS. Same of 90 make would cost around 400,000. About 600,000 for 1995 ones. And it goes on and on. If you've got your pocket full of money go for a brand new one for about 3Million NRS. Still more to spend? Go for a Rav4, Nice one to go outside the valley. . . . will cost you around 4.5 Million. Conclusion . . . Stick to Toyota. One final suggestion, don't buy a rare model, more popular the model better chance of getting parts and better will be the resale value. Good Luck brother.

ratobhaley buying a car in nepal is UNAFFORDABLE .. specially with the 180 % tax on cars.

so if u want a new corolla instead of paying like Rs20 lakh in USA, u will in nepal pay rs 40 lakh after tax and etc.

hope this helps your poor soul.

ratobhale,

its a pretty hard choice nowadays as the prices on the indian imports have also gone up. A maruti suzuki swift will cost almost the same as an entry level japanese car such as the daihatsu sirion (daihatsu is now owned by toyota, so basically you are buying a toyota). In my opinion going for a japanese is better as the resale value is better; the upside for indian cars is that the maintainence is cheaper. You'll just have to go out there and test some cars before you decide. I dont think there is a hard and fast way of buying a car, buy one that you like.

for options sake, i would say test drive cars like the hyundai santro, hyundai getz, suzuki swift, tata indica (i personally never liked this car, but it has tons of power; speaking comparitively here), fiat palio ( service is not good from dealers, and mileage was horrible when i test drove it: it might have changed now though). try out some opel's as well .. the sail, swing, corsa and astra. the same dealers also deal with chevy as well, so try those out as well.

For japanese, toyotas are just expensive for no damn reason in ktm, i guess its just the brand name. Go test drive the corolla and maybe they have the new yaris in as well. Mazda 3s are also nice. the suzuki ignis is also pretty small, easy to get around as well as powerful. look at the diahatsu sirion as well.

i hope that was of help . i know its just basically just a list, but i dont know how to recommend something when your criteria isn't very precise :) just have fun driving the cars :).

cheers,
nepalikochoro

Riten dahling is so correct. indian cars are the best option in country like Nepal.
Ratobhaley most importantly is the cheap maintenance and easy access to accessories and parts. this makes it more economical to drive around ktm.
also when i was in ktm, 90% of roads have potholes or stones, rocks, fallen trees, branches and in some cases cows including cow dungs and rubbish heaps lying everywhere.
i was so shocked and amazed.
It doesn't make sense to drive japanese or european cars on that condition.

Best thing when you are in ktm is to ride motorcycles. Easy to evade traffic police and easy to park.

Have fun and safe driving
