Congrats!! That surely is a marvelous achievement. But I know of at least 3 Nepalese girls that went to or that are in dental schools; thus I doubt the claim that she is the first nepali girl to go to a dental school in US. Is the implication here that she is the first to join one as an international student or that she is the first one at BU? Maybe that's not important. What's stated in the last line is, however. Also, can anyone shed some light on what the 'khula pratiyogita' is all about? From what I know, applicants send all the required materials through AADSAS DMD and are shortlisted for interviews from there.

Himalaya

Actually, I posted that because of the false content. I don't understand why people have to do that kind of thing.

There are so many Nepalese women studying Dentistry in US Universities.

Is this the honest mistake of the reporter ?

This is a nice achievement to the individual.

About the news, what can u expect from Kantipur??
They make the news as they want to put it for the reader, not as what it is.
I never go for the news in Kantipur.

I congratulate Anjana for her success story but after reading this piece of news and comments, I got a feeling that we have a culture (?) of advertising self or attempting to win fake popularity by some false claims.

No doubt, her story has lost weight by the added spices in the news - the false claim to be first blah blah. We all know that everybody in the world can have something to claim to be the first in the world, which is not necessarily be important unless it comes with a proven and significant impact to human and society.

The media and reporters in Nepal often run on surface. About two years ago, a friend of mine was comparing my bio-data with some others who were described in an issue of Nepal, published by kantipur team. He was saying my bio-data was better than a few of those mentioned in the magazine. I understand I am not a great person because I know many others from Nepal who have done far better than me but they are not known either to nepalese media. Nepalese reporters put little effort to gather information, they hurry to publish, and mostly they tend to pick their relatives and / or peoples they are familiar with.

In my short stay in Nepal, few reporters came to meet me after they knew about me. They were describing me how to apply self-promoting tactices and capitalize lucrative positions in Nepal by using media and connection of media persons. They were even talking about political connections, connections to some established INGOs and peoples dominating the news media. These people were luring me to spend money and were watering their mouth for tips and commission. They proposed me for a full page congratulation advertisement and front page news cover with detailed biography. This was a complete collapse of my faith on the news of success stories in nepalese media.

Some reporters gave me examples how others had used similar tactices to put them in the frontline; how people called and payed reporters for publishing their interview; how anxiously they ran door to door of media houses with their bio-data for publishing a small coverage and so on. But, I did not like those ideas at all. I refused to involve myself in such foul tactics for winning a fake popularity. I could not agree with them and with their ill-fated practices in the nepalese media. I chose not to appear in the news media rather than having sponsered / purchased popularity with exaggerated claims if not false.

Perhaps, my short experience might tell you some aspect of nepalese media and why genuine intellegent people are away from them. It seems this has been a good business in the media and self-apraising society for a long time.

sprakashp ji

Thanks for your interest.

I don't see the problem with Nepali women, Ansana Shrestha but the way of reporting.

The reporter did not verify the facts. Hyaa bhanera thoki diya cha. .\
or there may be a possibility of herself giving the wrong information, which I doubt.

And I know for sure, Ansana is NOT the first women dentist to study in a US University as claimed. The report is so damning and incomplete that it does not mention when was the exam taken, which kind of exam, on which level etc.? If it said; the first Nepali women dentist in BU then no one would have questioned anything.

Now I begin to question, whether that was even worth reporting ?

Here is an example of some other Nepali Women who have done Dentistry in US:

Dr. Rupa Hamal was born in Kathmandu, Nepal. She graduated with a Bachelors of Dental Surgery from India and worked in Kathmandu for a couple years before moving to the USA in 1993. Her academic background includes a Doctor of Dental Medicine (University of Pennsylvania), Certificate in Periodontics and Masters in Public Health (The Ohio state University), and Masters in Oral Biology (University of Alabama at Birmingham). She has also held teaching position both in University of Pennsylvania and The Ohio State University. She received several awards while at University of Pennsylvania such as The Pass-International Dentist award (academic and clinical excellence award) and was nominated to Omicron Kappa Upsilon (Honor Dental Society). She was also nominated for Who?s who in American Universities in 1996 and a Fellowship award while at University of Alabama.

Currently she is a Periodontist in private practice in Ohio

This reporting is false........I personally know two Nepalese female dentist in LA area who attended UCLA dental school and got their DMD degee ..... I don't undestand why she has given such a wrong information to the reporter or why the reporter has exaggerated her normal progression...... I personally think this report regarding her admission in dental school is not wrorth reporting in a national media............. This is not an extra ordinary achievement.......It's a normal path to enter into dental school as internatinal studentes like other nepalese students majoring in different fields here in US universities...... But the difference is that even after being dentist in Nepal, if somebody wants to practice dentistry in the US, he/she has to get into US dental school and study at least for 2 years spending at least 60-70 K per year as tuition and fees........ which most of Nepalese dentist cannot afford................. Anyway she seems rich or from wealthy family to afford such a high expenditure !!!!!!!!!!
