Poudel elected NSU president

Pradeep Poudel has been elected as president of Nepal Students Union (NSU) at the Tenth Convention of the student organisation held in Chitwan.

The results of election held on Friday came out on Saturday morning. Poudel, who is the current vice president of Congress' student wing, bagged 830 votes of the 1500 votes that were cast.

His nearest rival Bikash Koirala bagged 402 votes followed by Badri Pandey. Six candidates were in the fray for the post of presidency.

Poudel is said to represent the republican camp within the student organisation and had been backed by influential student leader Gagan Thapa.

Meanwhile, four representatives have been elected at the central committee from eastern region. Six were elected from central region; four from western region; four from mid-western region; and three from far western region. Likewise, four women members have also been elected. One each has been elected from technical field and overseas department.

After becoming elected, Poudel said he is committed to building a new Nepal by working to end monarchy through Constituent Assembly and consolidating democracy. nepalnews.com sd May 26 07

"New" Nepal... such a cliche.... by the time our leaders figure out the "new" nepal, we will have to create another "new" nepal to solve the issues from the first "new" nepal...our leaders promised us to make kathmandu as good as singapore, bring melamchi to kathmandu before i graduated from high school (which was some 10 yrs ago) and yeah now they are selling us the "new" nepal....

Hardik Badhai Chha! I am really happy to see another fellow from Tanahun elected in such important position with landslide victory.

I also hope Mr. Pradeep Paudel will promote democracy and expose corrupt leaders like Govindra Joshi and Ram Chandra Paudel.

Is Pradeep Paudel form Shanjha ??? I dont think so..

I was in Ascol when he won the Ascol Union long time back... so far as I know he is originally from Tanahun. Gagan and Pradeep are highschool classmate in Siddartha vanasthali. I don't know his family background... certainly he seems to be a able student leader who can rise by his own ability and can challange the Congress leadership.

my best wishes to him & hope he will be able to develop a democratic tradition and culture in Nepal's student politics.

I think Gagan and pradeep must work hard to lead congress toward the right direction, otherwise, Ram chandra govinde, khume, Chikuwa, gacheedar and so on cut congress's nack. Because of them, Nepal is this situation. Good luck Pradeep.
