BEDFORD
Bedford police say a convenience store clerk closed the cash register after he was fatally shot.

The search continues for three suspects in the slaying of 28-year-old Gaurab Rajbanshi of Euless. He was gunned down Monday during what police say was an attempted robbery.

Neighborhood children dropped off notes and flowers in front of the convenience store Tuesday. One note, in a child's handwriting, said, "I'm sorry those guys did that to you... they are stupid."

"He was very sweet, very kind. Anytime, anytime we needed anything he would get it for us the next day," says customer Jennifer Palmer, who brought flowers to the store. "My son came in wanting a certain kind of candy and he had it the next day."

When police arrived at the D & S Foodmart, at 1501 E. Pipeline Road, they found Rajbanshi dead behind the counter.

Photos from the store's video surveillance system show one or both of the suspects making a purchase. The clerk had opened the register, as if to make a sale, but closed it after being shot. It appears the man was shot without provocation.

At some point one of the suspects appears to stomp on something, but police don't know what. The robbers were unable to open the register so they instead took a few items from the store before fleeing.

The suspects reportedly fled in a 1980’s model Gold Chevrolet Suburban, and were last seen travel east bound on E Pipeline Road.

A customer later entered the store and found Rajbanshi.

In addition to working at the store Rajbanshi was a student and was close to getting a degree in engineering.

Jeff Ray also brought flowers to the store and said, "We don't need to have people coming in and just taking people's lives like that. It's not right."
