DUNAI
(DOLPA), April 24 - A group claiming to be YCL (Young Communist
League), the Maoist youth wing, reportedly beat up and injured teachers
and locals in remote Kalika VDC of Dolpa district Monday night.
A
local, who came to district headquarters Dunai following the attack,
said the group also broke the leg of one Tripura Rokaya, 18, of
Kalika-5, before beating up her father Harichandra and brother Lal
Bahadur.
Among the attackers are teacher of Kalika Secondary
School, Shakti Bahadur Shahi, and locals Tejendra Shahi, Tanka Hamal,
Lokendra Hamal and Tek Bahadur Shahi.
After breaking into the
Rokaya house at midnight, they attacked the family members and claimed
to be "YCL cadres". After the Rokaya family shouted for help, the group
went outside and pelted stones at them.
Earlier also, a
similar group claiming to be YCL had barged into the school and
battered three teachers, injuring them seriously.
When asked about this, Maoist district secretary Ram Lal BK denied his party cadres' involvement in the incidents.
The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML in the district denounced the attacks and urged the Maoists to stop such atrocities.
