Hi, I'll be travelling to Nepal with a 6 months infant. Any recent flyers have any suggestions? Should I take a light weight stroller or a baby Bjorn? We have about 10 hours of transit in London too. Any suggestions welcome.

Hey nhu-cha,

Great to know that you have a brand new baby!

I travelled with mine (when he was just three months old) a couple of years back. It would be fine. I believe you already have requested for basinet- where your child can relax when you are eating or taking a nap. Some of the air hostesses are great too- they come and hold your baby while you two were eating.

Your doctor may have advised you to take ear plugs for kids as they may get irritated because of unexpected noise. Having a stroller would definitely help you guys-specially while you have transit time. Stroller is important to the kid too, because a six month old would like to take a nap while you guys are in transit. Carry some diapers and wipes eventhough all airline will supply you some.

Good luck with your trip.

This is the exact thread I am looking for. I am also traveling to Nepal w/ my fove months baby by London and I have same cocern as yours. What is a lightweight stroller? I have one from evenflow, little bit bigger in size and confused if the airlines will allow it. Also five months baby can not sit upright. It is more comfortable if car seat is used on stroller. Do the airlines allow car seat on hand carry (we are ready to reduce hand carry if we can take car seat with us). Stroller + Car seat would be much helpful during long transit in London.

How about liquid/powder baby formula and cereals?

Its not easy to travel with infant; but following will certainly be helpful:
  1. Since both of your kids are 5/6 months, it is not advisable to have extra seat for infant. Infant will be on your lap.
  2. Carry stroller (light weight / folding type) along with you. In any int'l flight, it is allowed (like laptop, over coat, umbrella, no extra cost/weight). It will be with u inside the cabin space.
  3. VERY IMPORTANT: choose the infant row seat (look at the seat plane of aircraft), the air-craft provides bassinet. So, when baby sleeps, you will be using the bassinet; if not s/he will be on your lap. Note that you have to book in advance for this seat to avoid future circumstances.
  4. Since you are traveling with your baby, do not go for extra hand bags. A small bag where baby food/wet wipes/few nos. of diapers, etc.) is must plus extra baby clothes.  Try to send as much in checked-in luggage.
  5. Since you are carrying stroller, u can use it during transit. It will be too convenient.

>>>How about liquid/powder baby formula and cereals?

Carry sealed water bottle and later u can open once u pass immigration). Anything that is sealed is ok. B
aby formula/cereals: if they are sealed, no worries. U may buy the smaller one just to use during the flight/travel.

Neural, That was real helpful answer.

I am still waiting for answer if some one had experience w/ taking Car Seat + Stroller as it will be more convinient to the infant to sleep on car seat on stroller than seat in stroller. Will the airlines allow that?

Recently I made a trip to Nepal with my infant son.  Masingh, on your question about stroller, take any umbrella stroller.  It will be very helpful.  I didn’t take car seat so don’t know on that.  I flew through Europe and my flight through Europe was with AA.  They checked my stroller at the gate and gave me right after we landed.  Remember you can also put other stuff like diaper bag on stroller which will be really helpful if you have long layover.  About baby food (canned or jar) and formula, they will let you carry as much as you want.  Just let them know you have a long flight.  Also don’t worry about hot water.  Airlines gives it to you.  Many gulf countries airlines prefer you to check the stroller but they give you their stroller.  Check with your airlines on this.  Hope this helps.
