Indian ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood met with Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ Tuesday to discuss the formation of next government and the future politics of the country.
The meeting comes at a time when the three major parties Maoists, UML and NC are having differences on the issue of formation of next governemtn/
During the meeting held at Prachand’s Nayabazaar residence, the Maoist Chairman said that his party will lead the next government and expressed confidence that the Indian government will continue to extend support.
In turn, the Indian envoy assured Prachanda that India will assist the Maoist-led government.
Sood suggested that a political consensus should be formed between the major parties for the formation of the next government and on other issues.
He also reportedly inquired the Prachanda about whether the Maoist leadership will be willing to accept only one of the posts of either the President or the Prime Minister in the next government.
Maoist second-in-command Dr Baburam Bhattarai was also present at the meeting.
Sood met with Prachanda just after the UML and the NC decided not to hand both the posts of President and Prime Minister to the Maoists in the next government.
