I recently graduated college and have a job offer. I applied for OPT in Nebraska Service Center in April 10 and got a receipt. In the meantime, I had applied for H1B, but haven't heard about that.

All of my friends (international students) who graduated with me have got their OPT, even those who applied after me. I am checking the status online and its still pending. I called USCIS to expedite but there has been no positive signs. Its killing me. Anyone here has an idea about this, and also what security check means (I heard from an attorney, Murthy Forum) that my application might have been a part of this check. What do they do in this check? I have no bad records and I know that after 90 days have passed, I can get an interim card by making an appointment. Please share your experiences.

when u start working take your i-20 and show them that u graduated in so and so and that your opt starts from so and so. its not like they will send u home if u dont have your opt on hand. tell em its on the way and u will bring it to them as soon as u get it. just play it cool dude. ull be fine. let alone opt card the place i work for hasnt even looked at my transcripts yet!

hmm...one friend of mine ran into same situation, but USCIS informed her that she was missing some doc, she sent that and got the OPT card...hope its  not the same situation with u..

FYI..

I sent mine on September..10th....through USPS.. they gave me tracking number but it never showed up online...After a week my traking number worked and it said, it was delivered to houston. But that was the place I sent mine.

Went to international advisor, and guess what they got my mail, that was after 2 weeks, I asked why it got returned from USCIS, and according to my international advisor, it never reached USCIS, coz...that USPS a**h*** didnt  stamp my letter, so it got returned. They said they mailed it again, now i dont have any tracking number, dont know weather they sent it or not, no check cashed..then direclty on december 1st I saw the balance reducing from my a/c, checked the back of my check, it had tracking number , went online and checked, said case received and pending. After 2 days, case was approved, after a week got call from international advisor to pick up EAD.

Damn i wrote the whole story here, so dont worry..atleast u have receipt number, either u;ll be asked to provide some  docs or u'll get ur EAD. 

call your local congressman or senator's office.  they will follow up.  i had to do for my green card through senator's office.  they have somebody who does this.  go to congress website and find out your congressman or senator's office.  tell them ur situation especially point that ppl are getting opt card after you had applied, and u are waiting. 

I have requested an expedite service and they sent me a mail that they will honor that. However, it asks me to be patient for a few days.

I think it is some dumb security check or something which is causing a delay.
