how easy is bringing your wife in dependent Visa..i m thinking so....i m in F1 right now..........so is this better for her to apply in F1 or dependent.?

if you are F1 and has some kind of scholarships like TA or RA it is not a big deal she will just get visa but if you don't have support it may be a bt problem.Find strong financial support that is just u have to show and lie that you will be back.

hey i got the same problem... well what kinda strong finacial support are you talking about... and what about scholarship.i study in a community college might that be any problem tht you know... hey waiting for ur advicce...

in my case i m in University right now

wanna bring her ........i m gonna graduate with in couple of semister too......

if i can't bring her........it will be JHUR.........i can't even imagine that guyz

Requirements for obtaining F-2 Visa:

In order to apply for an F-2 visa, the dependents must have the following:

• A valid passport.
• Proof that F-2 applicants and/or their spouse have sufficient financial resources to meet all of their expenses while in the USA. For example, bank statements, affidavits of support, etc.
• A valid Form I-20 or DS-2019. This form should be submitted to the International Office with all required certification. The issue date on these forms needs to be after the date of marriage in order for the spouse to apply for a visa.
• A marriage or birth certificate showing the relationship to the F-1 student.

well..Let me share my bitter experience..

I was in F1 and  applied to my wife and daughter under dependent Visa. I was in the University then, she got rejected saying that "your husband is still in the University and can not support financially..blah blah"

Second time, she applied immediatly after a week hoping for a luck, but could nto succeed again. Completely frustrated, I asked her not to apply until I work under CPT.

Third time, I applied for her after I got CPT and showed all the documents- work authorization, appointment letter ffrom company, pay checks, tax refund documents, bank statement, and also my scheduled surgery document from Doctor....BUT still they rejected that I am still under F1 and CPT and financial status was not a reason for rejection.

I was pissed off. I did not apply again. Now, I have H1B and I am in dilemma whether should I apply this time. what if they ask I have no green card. What the heck..its just a matter of chance and luck I guess.

Neerman, now that you have H1B and a gainful employment, you can have your wife and daughter apply for H4 visas. 

As for other posters, I would think it would be hard for your spouses to get dependent visas because you are still in undergraduate programs.  Chances might be higher if you were a graduate student with sufficient scholarships/funds.

you will have a better chance as a gradute student and esp if you have a TA or an RA. I got mine pretty easily. It all depends on luck as well. Good luck!!

Admirer is right. My wife got her visa within 1 month of my marriage.

I was in my graduate program, went back, got married, came here, had Internation Director prepare an I-20 for her, sent it to her and had her apply for the visa. I had a GA position which was shown in my I-20, still I had my bank balance furnished, my wife's father's and hers too.

Basically you have to present a strong case of financial strangth, you can plan the way you want.

Purush is right!! i had prepared I-20 for my wife and took it along with me, then we adjusted the date of marriage (court papers) according to the date on I-20, then applied to the embassy along with financial documents (from my side and father in law's side). But the only thing the counselor looked for was the marriage photographs and my TA ship, didn't even bother to look at bank documents. So it really depends on the counselor as well.
