Maoist Related Teachers' Union: St. Xaviers School closed indefinitely St. Xaviers' School in Jawalakhel, has been closed indefinitely by the school management from Tuesday. The school has cited 'unfavourable conditions to run the school' as the reason for closure in a notice sent to the parents on Monday. The school was closed after Intitutional School Teachers' Union (ISTCHU), St. Xaviers' Unit started protest demanding salary hike, a pension fund and teacher's representation in the school management. The unit has said the management closed the school without any dialouge with them. nepalnews.com Feb 10 09

Maoist affiliated unions and organizations are literally creating havoc in Nepal. It is unfortunate that maoists are running Nepal. There is no doubt that one day these son of gun will bring our country down.

Nothing wrong with the strike but as far as I know from my schooldays, the teachers were paid handsomely and were paid double what government employees were paid and I guess, it is still the same as I know that Xavier's always treat their staff fairly. That's why you can still see employees working there for life.

Thukka If you want to have a logical conversation, I am all for it. If you want to engage in a verbal abuse, I will pass. I pity those who try to show there masculinity in a hidden forum like this. Okay, Assuming that we are having a logical conversation and also assuming that your ascertion that I am stupid or “dum” is not true then here’s my point. If you think teachers should simply teach, and factory workers should simply work who would protect their rights? They are suppose to hire outside strikers for that purpose?? With your logic there is no need for any labor union and the business prorprietor can do whatevery they want to. Forget about rights of the teachers and the workers. Heck, while we are at it we actually didn’t even need the democracy, we should just work and eat and sleep. My concern is not with St. Xaviers management, it is the inherent right of the labor force that I am questioning. I thought twice before I trashed my words in sajha…dude. DWI

I take pride of the schools like Gandaki Boarding, St. Xavier's , Budhanilkantha and so on where both poor and rich students have access with /or without full scholarships. Personally, I have no any attachment with these schools and most of the Nepalese too But I believe that these are the best places to grow for the brillient students and the teachers as well. It's a bad and sad news that St.Xaviers is closed. There should not be any kind of threat or demand from outside. I like these schools because they are especially independent of politics.

I dont agree with Strikes!! When there are strikes, you need to understand that things are wrong. It worked for Maoists and see the consequences. Anyone who can collect a mass does it to protest anything. There is got to be other ways to deal with things. And just imagine, if staffs of "St. Xavier" strike for Salary hike what should the staff of other schools (especially, government) do?
