Does anybody know any consulting companies for
accountants?  I was working for Deloitte, but was recently laid off and
need to find a consulting company to sponsor my H1B.  I live in NY, but
am willing to relocate anywhere in the USA.

Thanks,

Gaurav

If you are looking for Indian consulting companies, have you tried Sulekha.com?

Robert Half  or Accountemps are staffing companies only they aren't consultancies. I don't think they sponsor H1B.

Syanjali, one shouldn't necessarily have to have Greencard and CPA to get hired by Deloitte. If you're in your F1 they also hire (or used to hire) you and file for your H1. Recently Deloitte got rid of many employees mostly w/o a CPA.

Deloitte hired on CPT/OPT (F1). There is no restriction for GC or CPA.

Yes, I checked sulekha.  There are listings from IT Consulting companies, but not for Accounting.

Thanks,
Gaurav

I think deloitte targeted and laid off people on H1B. I was performing at "meets expectations and exceeds expectation" levels and was working on my CPA within the first 2 years to get the bonus. I know they laid off some really good people who were up for promotion, bonus and pay raise this fall. Its all about the money. We shud sue them

I was one of the victims. Sound off if u r one???

Kaanchii, I was one of them also.  Did you have any luck finding a consulting company to transfer your H1B?

Thanks,
Gaurav

No i am not going that route....did u talk to the legal councel they offered.. its free...call them....and ask abt changing to F1 or visitors visa. To me it seems like a better option than a consultancy because like u said there are not a lot of accounting consultacies out there. The reason i think being accounting jobs are not contract positions so a corp to corp arrangements are usually rare unlike IT.

Anyways for me i m thinking F1 or visitors options and then looking for another position.

How long had u been with them and what function? ERS? Audit? Consulting?

I was with them for almost 2 years.  I did use the free call with the legal counsel they offered.

I am also thinking of switching to visitor visa, but I am afraid that when I find a job, I will have problems switching back.  The reason is because once you find a job, you need to leave the country, get your H1B stamped and then come back into the country.  From what I have been seeing, people who go out of this country are have trouble getting back in.  My friend went to India and had a project with Citi.  But he could not get back in.  That is what I am afraid off.

Also, it would be good to keep in touch, so if you like, you can send me your email address.  That way we can keep each other posted on any updates...

Regards,
Gaurav
