Sathi haru, Need some URGENT HELP. I Just completed my MBA and looking for a decent job. I am finding hard to get a job. So, I am thinking to try Indian Consultancy. Is it okay to go through Indian Consultancy in current economic turmoil. If you guys know some decent/better Indian IT consultancy for training and placement. Please let me know. Also, will they be able to file H1B because there has been so much change in the rule applying H1B through consultancy. Thanks. Meetra.

meetra, I would suggest you to use it as a last resort. Ya, the USCIS rules have been really strict regarding the H1B petitions especially from these so called consulting/contract agencies. Before they could file the petition even you didnot have a project , now they have to have a proof of employment from the end client and the other agencies involved in the contract to hire process. If its an inhouse project too, then they have to show every details of that as well, so its not that easy to mislead the USCIS now, and they cant play that card anymore. But if you really can get a project, then you might be lucky to get H1b this year, as there are not much applications filed and the quotas are still open. But before you join any of them, negotiate with them properly, and do a little bit of research on the company, about the reputation with the USCIS, some of them have a bad reputation coz of the tax fraud and similar other complaints before, and your application might be rejected coz of that. so think about it and also have a back up plan (may be some colleges) if something goes wrong. good luck !!

Dude, looks like during those years in college, you did not do well enough to keep abreast of developments in this consultancy biz and its impact on us students. Consultancies are messed up and as Mr. dHwasE said, you should think about consultancies as a last resort. If you can apply to about 30 positions a day (yes 30, I repeat), you will have a slim chance of getting into something by the time your OPT expires next year. Remember, it is just one job, in most cases ,that will make you or break you, so that much more the incentive in trying harder! In the meantime, I would imagine you would get hands on an I20 as plan B. My friends who applied to 30 or more jobs a day -- don't tell me there are no such positions out there or that many openings in the first place or that they are not sponsoring, I know that. In fact all of us know that -- are all working and have applied for H1. Consultancies bilked us and the US govt to the extent that the USCIS had to act this time. Hard work and talent is being sought out there, even if it is in limited numbers recently. I would imagine that you did all the research on these issues when you entered your final semester! Having said that, I wish you good luck! Remember -- the number to hit each day is 30! Two months from now you will be frustrated, but around five months from now you will have something good to write home about!
