http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rohu I too tried once in vain....and finally ended up with catfish nuggets - cheap and best - tarera khana ko lagi. But you can't beat Rohu's taste.

You will find in most Asian grocery stores. They are frozen and will take couple days to thaw to dress it.
Ask them to chop it as you wanted before you take home. As it thaws, take the scale off and it is a tedious and boring job. Marinate at-least 5-6 hours so the taste goes inside the flesh.
Now a days I use Foreman Grill , it will not give the crisp taste as you do on frying pan or deep fry but it is less hassle to cook and it does not make the house smelly as we do on conventional way, that is the part I liked with the Foreman indoor grill.
With fish get fresh corn with husk. We love the corn cooked on fire but it is possible only the bbq day. So just tossed in the microwave with the husk for high 3.50 minutes, the flavor is intact and the taste is as good as back home. If you want you can put on fire if you have gas stove.
