Hello all, what would be a good choice while going to grad school, future job prospect. Could you guys shed some info who have already been to grad school in the subject majors? In addition, does Masters degree is good enough in this fieldd or one has to pursue PhD to get a good job?.

Dude! go for Computer Science !!!! You have to go for High Tech, not the conventional studies !!!!!!!! B.S. is enough for a good money on this field.

If you plan to go for Chem or Microbio in both of the cases you will need to do PhD because of the job prospects and the nature of the studies. In your case its better to go for non Masters PhD but in a good lab. Why I am saying good lab because you can spend years doing research but you may not have any good results I mean publication. In other words if you are a hard working student then choose also a hard working PhD or Master's supervisor. There is not enough money in this field. Even after PhD you will not be able to make more than 40K in a year (i.e. during your Post Doc). But the objective is to get green card from Post Doc and compete with Americans in a good biotech lab/pharmaceuticals company in future.

Besha, Thanks for your input. As you mentioned in your last paragraph, I am interested in working in Hospitals, biotech lab or pharmaceutical companies. I already have a green card, does this help? suggest me if masters in chemistry or masters in microbiology/biotech is better..

Biology,
Both are good areas to find a job in the fields you mentioned. You need decide what are you more interested in and in which can you do better. Then proceed accordingly.

I strongly suggest you to change the subject to some technical field. BIOLOGY/CHEMISTRY is the worst choice unless you're planning to go to Medical college or do Pharmacy.....Let these people say whatever they want to, they probably have realized by now Bio/Chem is waste of time and money. Even if you do PHD, you're not making good money in this field. Do u enjoy working in labs all day doing some crap research ? if yes go for Bio. Do u enjoy pippetting all day in lab ? that's what the job you'll get it. Go change it to IT or computer science or Pharmacy or Physical therapy, Occupation therapy, Epidemiology, Biostatistics.... Good Luck .
