Hi there,
My OPT ends on Sept. I think we get 60 days grace period to either leave the country or get admitted to academic program. I read somewhere: Ways you can remain in the U.S. legally:
- Be admitted to another academic program in the US (either before or during the grace period). The new academic program must begin within 5 months of the end of your OPT.
- Apply for a change of status and be approved for another type of visa, such as a work visa
I am not sure about the first one here. Here's the question: If my OPT ends on Sept 19. Can I get I-20 from the university within 60 days after Sept 19 and can I start going to collge from Spring 2012? Hope it makes sense to you all. I'm trying to avoid going to college this fall.
Thanks

Your academic program must begin within 5 months of OPT expiration. You can get new I20 within two months of grace period but your class should start within feb 18, 2012. (i.e sept 19, 2011 + 5 months => Feb 18, 2012(within this date your class should start)). TC

Thank you bagh-chal. I could not find that information on USCIS website. Does anybody has any link to validate that?
