The Indian media called Thamel a mini- India, so what? whats the big deal about it. There are so many Somalians living in many places of Minnesota and people call their neighborhood a little Somalia. I have never seen any American getting mad about it. But Nepalese are making issues about Thamel.

I am with you on this @divorceguy. The country is going through such a huge catastrophic earthquake and people are making a big fuzz about this mini thamel thing. On top of that, its people calling from abroad to the media personnal and posting it to social media.. bunch of idiots !! If you really want to help, the best way might be to donate a responsible party or be present physically in the field.

it depends on the context you are talking about...
If they have lot's of bogus news going on in the news channels showing Nepal like a state of India and PM modhi is the one saving Nepal from catastrophe, certainly calling Thamel "little india" might be offensive for lot of us.
We definitely need donations and help but if someone tries to step on our head trying to belittle us then that's not tolerable.They are helping us and that's why we appreciate it heartly but they should not make a move from our heart to our head.

Like Indian Media Nepali media are not good. There are media like Avenues Television whose only motive seems to spread hatred about India.
What nepali media has never covered is the hard work by India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). I saw in one news, how NDRF actually helped pull one women out of the rubble alive after 5-6 days in international news channel. Another news in international media showed indian helilcopter landing in a very treacherous condition, and helped the victim move. Do you expect these things to be shown in Nepali media? NO.

Furthermore, Genius Nepali Photoshopper in facebook has not helped the cause. All they do is photoshop images against india, spreading disharmony. All they want is more likes and comments on facebook. They either photoshop, or create their own video swearing or brandishing khukuri making themselves look absolutely stupid.

I have a mixed feeling about this. But does Thamel have majority of Indian population compared to other races? If so, calling Thamel Mini India is justified. If not, it was just a part of Indian propaganda. Here in US cities, they have China Town, Mini Korea, Little India, etc. but the fact remains, those neighborhoods' Chinese/Korean/Indian population far exceeds local population(White/Black).

not just thamel,whole kathmandu is mini india.their hotels,their tv channels ,their news publications, their hospitals,their shopping mals,their bisal bazaar,their new road and all its shops/restaurants(it was called naya sadak after 1990 earthquake , new road in 70s,now nai sadak). all the big investors in the valley with their industries are indians. all the tourist centred shops, trekking gear dealers,massage centers are indian investment. the most important thok bikreta of almost any food producht in the vally is a marwari.your udhyog banijya sang is run by marwaris who flew with the first flight to india after the quake.the khetans, kedia,golyan, murarka,sharada, golchha,dugar,chowdhary,shirohiya ,saraf are the few big ones.for the smaller ones ,u can just go to thamel or new road and search for the owner of the shop/restaurant/hotel. do you still think kathmandu is not mini india?
or just go to sauraha,pokhara, biratnagar or even namche, and observe whom those hotels, resorts,shops, mals,schools, colleges and pretty much everything belongs.we as a nation have become so much economically dependant on these indians(though some claim to have nepali nagarikta ,most still have their indian ones or maintain both ;even those who are since 2 or 3 generations here).every political party has its sponsor house and these people are pretty much the kingmaker of nepal.this earthquake and the behaviour shown by these people in the immediate aftermath has for the first time made me think abt that. those lining for indian chartered planes and buses were the small fishes.the big fishes were evacuated with their kins by IAF helis .hey had put their darbans and gatekeepers to look after their houses and fled ktm fearing loots by the demoralised mob.

Nepalese have the right time to loot them Indians and get richer. A modern robin hood was supposed to be born.
