Press Release :11/27/15 Nepalese in New England Protesting Against Border Blockade in Nepal Nepalese living in the New England area are organizing a peaceful protest against the blockade of critical supplies into Nepal due to political stalemate between India and Nepal which is causing mass suffering and violation of United Nations charter for landlocked countries. The protest will take place at Copley Square, Boston on Sunday, November 29th, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Immediately following the promulgation of the constitution, which was voted by 85% of constituent assembly and praised by several countries including the United States, India imposed an undeclared blockade that has crippled the lives of millions in the Himalayan nation. India’s blockade is meant to support a very small percentage of Terai population who are regional elites and landlords with deep family ties in India. We stand with the majority of fellow Nepalis and Madheshis whose lives have been harshly affected due to the selfish actions of few leaders. Nepal, which is just recovering from a 7.8 Richter scale earthquake, is unable to cope with the blockade, which has been in place for the last two months and is ongoing. The blockade has caused a severe shortage of food, fuel, medicines and cooking gas, triggering hospital closures as well as massive deforestation as individuals turn to wood fires to meet their needs. Post-earthquake reconstruction has also been halted due to the blockade. As the landlocked country of Nepal conducts more than 75% of its trade through its open border with India, the blockade has caused more damage to the economy than the devastating earthquakes. The shortages in addition to the winter season, which has already started in mountains, is going to cause one of the worst humanitarian crisis in the region. Nepalese of all walks of life in Boston and other New England cities are expected to participate in the peaceful protest at Copley Square. An estimated 300 thousand Nepalese live in the United States, and around 25 thousand Nepalese live in the New England area. We appeal the International community to come forward and voice against the inhumane blockade and urge the politicians to end the crisis and strengthen bilateral coexistence. Protest should be against the Nepalese Government because Govt is ignoring it's own people residing in Madesh. And keep in mind, leaning towards China will never get you in the destination. If fact, Nepal has no destination. It always survives depending on others.

I agree with pressuring the Government, they have to do the majority of things and they aren't doing it. But I will ask this question to Donald_duck and everybody else who is saying Govt has to do it, What would you do if you were the Government? Would you be willing to give them everything they have demanded? If not what provision would you take out and what if they protested that as well?

If they had only gone to Terai and address in the name of Madhesh people long time ago, the situation wouldn't have gone worse.

@Kiddo, Do you know what Govt's responsibility is? If they can't solve the problem, they should step down. They just can't stand with argument keeping peoples life in measurable condition, as you are seeing everyday. Can you recall how many times these so called self-proclaimed netas have visited Madesh? Has Prime Minister recently visited Terai? It is so frustrating.

@Donald_duck Not sure why you are asking a question to my question. If you are reading anything between the lines, please don't. I am asking just to understand where people are coming from and what they would do if put in a real situation. It's easy to tell somebody to solve the issue, but do we know if a solution exist? That's all I want to know.

Kiddo, Problem was created by your leaders (Prachande and company et al). Nobody was asking state let alone ethnic based states in Nepal. Your leaders created this problem for no reason so ask him the solution.

Your leaders?? Yeah i agree prachande created the problem. Baburam is still at it but they are no one's leaders. Instead of pointing fingers at each other india gave us a motivation to unite. Lets do that fiirst, if we unite and have greater understanding, it will not take too long to fix our ineternal problems.

Kiddo, the issue is simple. What the government needs to do first is to uphold the law. It is illegal for any group to block any public roads so the first thing government needs to do is have the balls to clear up the protestors. If they don't have the balls to do that, then they need to give up their position and let someone else come to the government who can clear the protestors and possibly try to deal with the underlying issues.

@ne0 and @mangale, how exactly is our government supposed to stop this blockade? How many people are you proposing our government kill to clear the blockade? I don't think violence is a solution here. This is why I think we need to protest against the root of this crisis, the Indian government.
