You know i've pondered this question, but i've come to find out there's no definet answer. If there is an end to space what's beyond that end. If there is a wall of some sort marking an end, there has to be something on the other side of that wall. I can't be thinking about this now... i have a test.

I personally doubt that space is finite in extension, if it would and had no boundaries, how is it possible that earth is flat as the current astronomical observations indicate. I don't know. just my thinking.

hey aliciaa, k cha, gayab ajjkal :)

Aliciaa, your question cannot be answered in any ordinary statement. This is indeed a deep philosophical question!..

This question has not just captivated you and me, but many philosphers and scientists of ancient and present age. Bruno, one of the greatest philosopher, was burnt alive because of his view on God and the infinite universe. He preached, that God is everywhere, and universe is infinite, and Earth like world are scattered around this universe. He also said, that we will always continually strive for knowledge, eventhough he agreed our knowledge is limited, which can be tuned with the infinite universe. We may suffer because of our limitations but man will be satisfied, while he is continiously searching for the perfect ideal, happiness and these consists in the awareness of one's "fundamental unity with the infinite universe." There are many philosophical ideas about universe and hence, this is one which has made me wonderous!

Talking scientifically, our views on universe is limited with physics, because the only way we can measure the size of our universe is by calculating the light of the most distant star and how far it can travel. There might be place in this space where this light cannot travel at all, so hence there we also dont know the definate answer to the size of our limited or unlimited universe.

Big bang theory, and theory of finite universe or infinite universe, ( just a year ago, some scientis have drawn a shape of an finite universe,) can never be really observed, maybe not in our lifetime, so these theories are just theories, for us, which we cannot be certain of.

so therefore, we do not know if universe has an edge or is it just going and going and going... but me individually, i think universe is infinite and it was created by a creator..

2 worlds
Quamtum Physics or Theory of relativity.
Theory of Relativity= finite
Quantum Physics= infinite

hmm, batroomcoffee, so how does Theory of Relativity, state that space is limited??
i know for certain enstein always thought universe was wrapped and curved, but how does theory of relativity prove the finite universe ..eager to know :)

the only thing we can do and measure is the size of metrics which is of finite propotions, which as a result gives us the impression that it is getting bigger.

how can we apply infinite numbers to anything "real".Abstract.

aliciaa, ma ta thik tha... :)

aliciaa, you are missing out your own point. the General Theory of Relativity, doesnt not figure the absoulute scale of things. so, therefore size is rahter just a relative matter to this theory, because no matter how small or how large the universe is it will behave the same..so yes, there is an expanding universe but there is no certain size of universe..

ok now am out to wrk :)

For those who like to misutilize a good deal of their valuable time thinking about space, time, velocity of light, trying to visualize 4 dimensions etc, "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking is a good read . Easy to read, comprehensible and targeted for ordinary users, it has been a classic and has tought most of our physics teachers most of what they know about space and time.
The digital version can be accessed at:

Don't miss chapter 1 and 12. Go thru' remaining in your boredom.

Space began at the ascent of the mind and ends with the demise of the imagination!
