people now world cup is over and winner has been decided, people are beginning to make great Zidane a scapegoat. But why?
Isn't he have done so much to France team as well as to football world and communities.
and just because this is Zidane last game and he has to deserve red-card dosen't mean
it was Z.Z fault that France lost.
Anybody who thinks that it was due to ZZ that France lost is a loser.

Give him respect people

Thaha payen you do not know seems to know everything about football. Winning is the not the most important thing in life. The most important is how you play and how and what you contribute to human achievements.
Don't only see the qualities of the winner. Look for the other side too.

If you are talking about the contribution to the communities, is that how you would prefer to contribute by striking by rival's chest with your head?? Good analysis, bornfree bro. If you are talking about his legacy, is that what the stakeholders of French team deserve?? You cannot precisely tell that he was the reason of today's loss, but he certainly has contributed for the loss indirectly.
How he made sad to his fans, his country, his team, and the football communities in general?? I know he is a great soccer player, but sportsmanship comes from talent and discipline. He no more deseves appreciation.

Amriteeeeeeeeeee

The question is what made him lose his cool in such an important day of his life. The Italian must have really ticked him off. He didn't deserve that. eh!!! Budha sankyo pachi kasko bau ko ke ni.

But.....

That's how people will remember Zidane with.......He had a great career, but you can deny all you want, but I doubt even Zidane wanted to go out like that.......Losing the Cool...Yup...that's where the greatness of each superstar is measured against.........Besides, it was verbal....and Zidane should have limited the incident to verbal confrontation only...or have the Referee take care of the situation..........he took the matter in his hands, and paid a price....I am sure he even regrets ! For an average Soccer Fan, or casual Fans, esp here in the USA, they will remember him as a player who was Red-Carded for viciously head-butting his opposing player in the Finals.......What a shame............Can't blame him for the outcome of the game, but he should be blamed for what he did.......

Only verbal, you're kidding me? The Italian player clearly tweaked Zidane's nipple. Then started the verbal abuse. And that's when Zidane lost his cool.

No matter what for me Zidane is one of the best players the world has ever seen mainly in the last 15 years. He ranks among Pele, and Maradona.

Hurray:
Then ZZ should have gone for his nipples ni ta..LOL...use Head instead? .....C'mon man !! No doubt, he is one of the best players.....but, with incidents like that, how can you make him the face of the Sports??? I will always have an exclamation mark next to his great career....besides, he's done it before...in 1998 against Saudia Arabian player...so !!!

timi haru je sukai bhana..the best player to come out of this tournament for me is France's Ribery. I hope the speculation of him joining Arsenal is true. Ribery along with Henry in the Arsenal team would be a great duo. He will prove to be a fine replacement for Robert Pires.

An interesting read :

World-Zidane's red card was just, butt broke rules?

By Mitch Phillips

BERLIN, July 9 (Reuters) - The most memorable moment of the World Cup final, Zinedine Zidane's butt to the chest of Italian defender Marco Materazzi, was rightly punished by a red card even though the officials did not appear to see it happen.

The incident in the second period of extra time brought a premature end to the great midfielder's career and he can have no complaints about the justice of it.

He might, however, have cause to question its legality as it is against FIFA rules for TV pictures to be used as a basis for a refereeing decision.

Zidane had been an ever-increasing influence in the match, in which he opened the scoring with a penalty in the seventh minute and almost won with a wonderful header in the 104th only to be denied by Gianluigi Buffon.

Then, after a French attack broke down early in the second period Zidane trotted back from the Italian area exchanging comments with Materazzi.

Something the Italian said obviously hit a raw nerve as Zidane stopped, walked back towards him and landed a fierce butt on his chest.

Materazzi collapsed, Zidane continued on his way and the game continued. It had not gone completely unseen, however as several Italian players, with Buffon the most vociferous, approached the nearest linesman demanding action.

Replays were shown on the hundreds of televisions in the media seats, raising an audible gasp.

As the mayhem continued on the pitch Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo consulted his linesmen and, so it was later discovered, the fourth and fifth officials, who have access to TV but may have seen the incident live.

The result was the red card and Zidane, who was also sent off for stamping during the 1998 World Cup, walked away from football for ever.

Both coaches confirmed that the decision had been taken by the off-pitch officials, both Spaniards, but each coach took a different view on what that meant.

"It was not Materazzi who got the attention of the referee, it was the fourth and fifth officials who pointed out what happened," said Italy's Marcello Lippi.

"The French spectators didn't know what happened, they'll know when they read the newspapers tomorrow."

France's Raymond Domenech said: "The referee saw nothing, the assistant referee saw nothing and then we have the fourth official saying to the referee what happened.

"We have video in football and then the fourth official tips off the referee."

France striker Thierry Henry said: "If they want to use video evidence it's not for one incident, they should use it for everybody and they should look at Materazzi too."

Nobody in the French camp was saying what passed between the two players but David Trezeguet said: "Zidane can leave here with his head held high. There is more than football in life."

Materazzi refused to talk about the incident

Finally i, who expected Italy's win and that is what happened, realized that I must be sorry for Zidane. I used some bad words to portrayed him. But,

Zidane should not have reacted that way to that very Italian who equalized the scores and shattered Zidane's hope of finalizing the match within regular 90 minutes, even if Materazzi scold or said some racist words. But, by the time he did that, Zidane was already hopeless about winnig the match because Viera and Henry were not on the pitch, and because he might have already realized that penalty was not for French.

Bad day for Zidane and for French supporters though they equally deserved the trophy!!

Yes, I will have to agree with Orange Boy.
In a game where tensions are high, it is easy to react on your emotions. And that is what happened with Zidane. The Italian player did everything to provoke him. He tweaked his nipples while holding him with both hands. Then passed on some comments, which I won't doubt could have been racial, knowing the Italians and Spaniards.
Zidane still should have controlled himself, but what seems clear is that this refree seems to have no mind of his own. He refreed the match between England and Portugal and apparently his decision to red card rooney was ignited by Potrugese players. And same happened here. He didn't see the head-butt, neither did his assistants. But then the Italian players seems to have influenced his decision, once again.

Italy winning today in penalties today and David Trezeguet missing the penalty just goes to prove that the everything moves in circles and that what goes around comes around. David Trezeguet was the one who shattered Italian dreams and broke the hearts of many Italian fans including mine by hitting the golden goal 6 years ago in the 2000 Euro final. It was a good victory for the Italians, who deserved to win the world cup after beating Germany in undoubtedly one of the best matches I have seen.

However, the way Zidane had to exit from International football was very sad. Its sad how a sudden rush of blood to the head will marr an otherwise glorious career forever.
But still, Zizou you rock!!
