Canada according to this survey from the Economist:

Vancouver is 'best place to live'

Vancouver is the world's best place to live, a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has found.

The EIU ranked 127 cities in terms of personal risk, infrastructure and the availability of goods and services.

All the cities that fell into the top "liveability" bracket were based in Canada, Australia and Western Europe.

The worst places were Algiers in Algeria, and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea because "many aspects of daily life present challenges", the EIU said.

Safe havens?

Canadian cities scored well, as did Austria's Vienna and Switzerland's Geneva, because they are not seen as targets for terror attacks.

The main uncertainty for people living in the those cities are climate-related, the EIU said.

"In the current global political climate, it is no surprise that the most desirable destinations are those with the lower perceived threat of terrorism," said Jon Copestake, editor of the EIU report.

The survey has produced a mixed picture of the world's cities. London was ranked in the 10th group, on a par with Dublin and Los Angeles, but one place below Manchester, four behind Berlin, five lower than Tokyo, and six off Helsinki, Frankfurt and Stockholm.

In Latin America, "no city manages to present ideal living conditions, neither do any fall into the category where extreme difficulties are faced", the EIU said.

Montevideo in Uruguay, Santiago in Chile and Buenos Aires in Argentina offer the region's best conditions. Bogota in Colombia and Caracas in Venezuela score the least favourably.

In Asia, cities in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China and Taiwan all score well, as do Australia's main hubs.

Africa and the Middle East fare less well, with the EIU citing concerns about terror attacks, and economic and political instability.

Some of the worst performing cities include Harare in Zimbabwe and Lagos in Nigeria.

Canada, but assuming you can find a job to your liking there I suppose :)

The Economist seems to think more about holding a conference in these cities rather than actually living in them longer term :) Nontheless, an interesting set of stats.

hah whenever this question(or similiar) pops up..i can just 'hear' someone sayn about one country and being on the top 5 etc wahahaha..not making an appearance now?shy bhoyo?wahahah ;oP hehe

anyways not really into stats(i try not to be re kya ;oP hehe)...but so far havin lived in 2 countries in me life..i have to say i actually do kinda love this current country im in right now(not that i hate the other country ;oP hehe)...guess its a human thing..being attached to smthing when u r around it for quite a while..

took me quite a while to get to pace of life here(lack of pace more likely hah!;oP hehe)..but yeah def a lot less hustle and bustle which means def a bit harder in terms of ease of transport and other stuffs..even safety(compared to the other country i was in before ;oP)..but is there such a thing called perfection?hehe..u gain some..u lose some hoina?trade hehe..but any person who def loves a much slower pace in life and loves the laidbackness ...come down and bum around with the bummers in australia wahahaha ;oP..

ok ok not all are bummers here(like i am hehe)...but until u try it..or stay in a place for a while..u never will know if u will like living there or not hoina?

------------
was quite suprised to see 4 cities from australia in the top ten cities list made by economist..posted by capt H(oho sounds more mysterious doesnt it?;oP hehe)...not that stats matters to me?does it?;oP hehe

ani TM lookn by the top ten city list ..(if u care about stats ;oP)..cant u deduce wat that it says about the country which has 4 cities in the top 10 list?;oP hehe

good day!:oD

It does not matter which country is the best in the rankings.
What does matter most is which one is most suitable for you.
--Just like people who speak both English and French could find Canada snobbishly sexy.
--If the person could become a dictator North Korea could be best.
--If a person is a pimp and have women falling over him everywhere, he could as well live in Paris, France.
--If a person likes to suntan on the beach during Christmas, Australia could be the best.
And...on ..and ..on..
:P
