$5 for 90+ minutes in Kathmandu (landlines only), but lower minutes for mobile and outside ktm valley....

Good connection, great voice quality, and weekly maintenence fee of 79cents

*** This is not an Advertizement, and i dont know who/where sti is**** just sharing info

Ram Kumari ji,

Thanks for your update on your experience using cards bought from Himtel .

It would be vey helpful to know which card you used, and during what time you tried calling Nepal.

Low rate cards, as we mention on our card selection page , might have difficulty to connect to Kathmandu during peak hours -- (9:30am - 11:30am, 10pm - 11:30pm Eastern time) -- "generally".

Any cards which give more than 16 minutes for $5 would be considered "low rate".

These low rate cards use routes to Kathmandu which use internet to terminate calls. And all calling card network service providers (who make those cards) use "least cost routing" -- they try to send their calls using the cheapest routes.

At any given time there are only a limited number of cheap routes available to Kathmandu. Therefore it is very difficult to get through to Kathmandu during peak times, and especially during festivals.

This is what I suggest:

-- try to call during non-peak hours, and during weekdays
-- if it's very urgent it's better to use cards which give LESS than 16 mins for $5 -- generally -- sometimes even those cards use cheap routes to Nepal.

Calling Cards Available at Himtel :

-- for all calling cards sold at Himtel, EXCEPT for Himtel Rechargeable, we are only resellers. We buy what is available in the market and resell to our customers. As such, unfortunately, we do not have any control over rates, routes or customer service for those cards.

-- STI Free card that Bhunte mentioned is a very popular card for Kathmandu these days, and is available on our site as "New Max Nepal "

-- during peak times we periodically test the cards we sell, and we do not display cards which are not going through during those periods

-- we have some control over the routes used by Himtel Rechargeable card, and by regular testing we try to make sure that the calls are routed through NTC network, but even then our service provider messes up sometimes.

REQUEST:
-- we try our best to find the best value cards available in the market for Nepal. If you know of any card which has good rates and good quality to Nepal, please let us know and we will carry those cards on our site.

NTC and internet routes to Nepal:
-- unfortunately the Nepali law does not allow us to have our own network to Nepal, which would enable us to have complete control over quality and rates.

-- illegal internet routes are there, which are used by all low rate cards, but there is no control over quality or quantity. When these lines are blocked on the Nepal side, you will hear "तपाईंको फोनमा बाहिरी कल सुविधा उपलब्ध छैन "

-- calls routed through NTC network in Nepal have the best quality, but they are expensive. NTC seems to be in no hurry to reduce its rates and attract more minutes which it continually loses to cheap low quality internet routes.

Ram Kumari ji,

If you haven't been able to use that card, please let us know and we will gladly refund the money or give you a replacement.

I can be reached directly at -- hsbohra at yahoo.com

Thank you.

hi,
I used SDI cards (online) for a long time and now as i knew of Himtel i felt cheated.I can buy 20+ minutes from himtel and SDI used to give 27 mins for 5 $.The best part i found about himtel was that if u call costumer service, you can talk in Nepali and if they call to register, they will talk in Nepali,I dont know who owns it but i like the fact that they employ our fellow country men unlike the south indian accent in SDI.
I used it yesterday also and it was fine.but sometimes its true that it wont connect to the local lines and works in mobile.

Use "Bean Town" or "Free" cards found in Indian stores. They give you over 40 mins for mere 2$. I have tried it and the quality was clear.

Hemendra Ji, why don't you put these cards also in your site? I was your regular customer but I use these cards these days because they beat your quality for so little price.

I've never had problems with Himtel card. It has always given me my money's worth. Well you might have difficulties in connecting once in a while. Especially during the festival times. During Dashain and Tihar mostly. But that's due to the traffic. But you'll have that problem with all cards. I'm not writing this comment because Himtel is owned by my friend. I'm writing this because, Himtel is a good card and I've had no problem with it ever. Heme, keep up the good work.

ALL THE CARDS FOR NEPAL ARE VERY LOW QUALITY. I TRIED TONS OF THEM BUT NOT CONTENT WITH EITHER OF THEM. ESPECIALLY THE CUSTOMER, THEIR OFFICE IS ALWAYS CLOSED OR THEY WILL PUT ON HOLD. THEY KNOW THIS IS FOR NEPALESE WHO WILL NOT DO ANYTHING EVEN IF YOUR COUNTRY IS SCREWED UP.

I stongly recommend for those guys who never had problem with Himtel to continue to use himtel and those who want to give it a try should at least give it a try.

As a nepali we should use services provided by our community as long as it of satisfactory quality and service
Use Nepalese Lawyer
Use Nepalese Buisness
USe Nepasles Tax consultant
Eat at Nepali resturants or nepalese owned

Give Buisness to Nepali .Help each other to be successful
BUT
saying this if you are served badly then there is only so much you can do to help your own people correct?

I have used Himtel in Past , i have No specific problem .I chose not to use it now cause i found better alternative .It is my choice ..As i said ..there is so only so much more you can pay to get similar service or compromise so much in quality.

Anyways ...Try it !you like it ..then use it!
