The news below shows how corrupt and selfish our leaders are. In stead of encouraging healthy competition, our leaders are using their power to send their kids to elite schools. Who is suffering? Hard working-brilliant student, DB http://nayapatrika.com/

This is a complete bullshit article. There might be glitches of truth but most of it is just a fake story. Getting a scholarship and getting scholarship funded by a country is different story. I remember once going to a poor village to run a free health camp. We advertise for the event and then we were distributing medicine for free too. We ran out of stock of some medication supply. Then one supper smart individual appears and says that we must provide it because we are chewing(I don't know what does that mean)the government money. Reality was we had spent some of our pocket money to provide some of the free medicine there. Then I realized that It is not easy to serve someone who has so little of understanding what really is happening in the background. This is just another story of very similar nature.

This is a 90% bullshit article. Anyway, They also forgot to write that Jhalnath Khanal's son studies in Cornell University, Dr Minendra Rijal's son studies in Stanford university and so on. Mahatko son studied in F&M college, I think. The reality is I am very proud of those leaders who found time to teach their kids at home so well that they could manage to get admission at world's best universities. I pity those who can't even take care of their kids at home. We must first look at how the leaders are treating their kids and wives to judge how they will lead the country.

This is old tradition/ culture to send their kids to abroad study. In the old decades 'jamindar' used to send their kids to study and the present leaders are no other than present "samanti". Everybody wants to take benefit from the current position. It is shame to send their kids in gov fund. By the way i am also somehow related to current bureaucracy but i am not taking even a penny.

Before U ALL START CONDEMNING THEM..... FIND OUT THE TRUTH. iF THEY WON SCHOLARSHIP ON THEIR OWN MERIT BY APPLYING FOR IT THEMSELVES YOU CANNOT BLAME THEIR POLITICIAN PARENTS FOR THAT ie. relly high acore in SAT for undergrad or highscores in GMAT OR GRE(whether they are corrupt or not). BUT IF THEY GOT THOSE SCHOLARSHIP DUE TO THEIR POLITICAL CONNECTION THEN YOU CAN START CURSING @ THEM. Or even start an investigation into how they got selected and bring all the guilty parties to JUSTICE. And YANK THEM POLITICIANS KUPUTRA's out of them universities NOW(don't let them finish their courses as a punishment). NEED MORE INFO BEFORE I MAKE UP MY MIND.

may be 1 or 2 might have earned by hardwork and better knowledge...but how come all of them have scholarships..that scholarship money of nepal is meant for talented students for further studies in better colleges...but it is been misused pretty good by our corrupt leaders.....instead of using that money to fund talented students they are funding their dumbass kids.....

From above, what I found interesting is all the male child go abroad to study and the female child are sent in neighboring countries. That could explain the reason for the severe shortage of unmaried Nepalese ladies in the USA. You have some savings why not spend in your son's education than your daughter's eh? And if you steal from the public, spend in both's.

I dont think there is shortage of unmarried nepali girls in US. There are almost more than 30 % ( I think, not based on any data), but most of them are already 'PACKED'

Folks, there used to be a Nepal where only two professions were considered the real profession-"dactari" and "engineering". Those who could not become one of them were considered plain loosers. People would tell you looser on your face because you studied science but could not become a "dactar" or an "enginer". I will not be surprised if this remains the case. At that time (pre 1990 and early 1990 era), Engineering college at Pulchowk used to have around 50 seats for Engineering and TUTH mere 25 seats for MBBS for several thousands ofaspiring IScs pumped out by science stream of TU. There was a consensus that entrance exams in those two institutions were very fair. Some of the cream of the crops used to get absorbed there. whoever could not make the above institutions, there used to be a few seats from ministry of education for countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, USSR etc. They had eligibility criteria, but I am not sure how fair the selection process used to be. For the rest of the herd (no pun intended), several embassys were the last resort. The most interesting ones were the scholarships provided by Indian Embassy. There used to be a "Kumbha ko mela" in front of the embassy to register the forms. Almost everybody knew that you got to have some kick ass political connections to get those seats. However, I have come across lots of people who claim that they got it based on merit. I guess they gave soem seats based on merit too. I am pretty sure most of these scholorships were a means of Indian government to keep leaders under their influence. Most of the congree leaders sent their kids to India for medicine and engineering in these so called "cultural " seats even during Panchayat regime. Same was true for communist leader's offsprings, who instead got seats in USSR and other communist nations. For muslim leaders there was Pakistan. Sajhaites who held "sarkari jagir" in Nepal will be better suited to comment on hundreds of "seats" Nepal gets every year from countries including India, Japan, UK and US. These include seats for all "Nijamati sewa" including police and army. I have heard lots of "hanky panky" goes in the selection process. Please correct me if I am wrong. So this is the real picture I saw when I was in Nepal at that time. However, it would be highly unfair to generalize and blame every individual or his/her political parents who got those scholarships. For me it was like "Lasha ma sun chha kaan mero buchai" or rather "Bhir bata lade pani kilo rittai, Baghi le khaye pani kilo rittai"-

Just a question: So one of the Amik Sherchan's sons is uneducated re according to the article. How many of you applaud Sherchan now? His son not only not goes to USA, but , oh, geez, he doesn't even go to school it seems. The reality is leaders should have a model family.I don't like leaders who don't have a good family to boot with. Because if their children are uneducated, not only they grow up to be brute, but also the leader has incentive to be more corrupt. If children are already well educated, they will discourage (probably since nothing is certain) their parents from taking decisions that are not wise. Plus the country gets some good decision makers for free(assuming children give their parents good advice, and parents take it.)

if the root of a plant is strong then the plant grows well...same with our leaders...since they are corrupt...most of their kids gonna follow their paths...(not all)....a guy from countryside is selected as a leader in nepal...he rents a room in kathmandu...in 6 months he a his own house...not only one 2 or 3 houses...nice car....his son has 7 bikes...different bike for everyday of a week...he is loaded with money...he is the ugliest in the group but nobody thinks him as ugly...he is a dumbass still he is outgoing in college....wtf is this?...a talented guy from countryside dont have enough money to study in kathmandu...and a dumbass gets a chance in usa uk n alll....with that money spent in usa we can give better knowledge to 10 talented ppl in nepal...this is just total wrong...our leaders trying to take all the advantage of their power and make themself and their family happy...they dont care bout the rest...all they think bout is the pocket and that pocket is so deep it never fills up....all i gotta say is lets be fair to eachother...a day will come...a nice day....our day...that day my kick and the corrupt leaders face....
