यो मेरो भनाइ हैन, नेपालका सुप्रसिद्द कवि भूपि शेरचनको हो र यो भनाइ शतप्रतिशत भन्दा बढी सही छ भन्ने माने हुन्छ ।

ब्रिटिश राजलाई एउटा साइकोलोजिकल वारफेयरमा कामलाग्ने कुरा चाहिएको थियो । यिनीहरूले चाल पाए , नेपालीहरू जुन तत्कालिन विश्व सभ्यताबाट पर अनकण्टारमा बाँचेका थिए र नेपालका विशेषत मंगोल जातका मान्छेका अनुहारहरू जुन युरोपमा  प्रथम विश्वयुद्द अगाडि नौला नै लाग्थे तिनैको प्रयोग गरी तिनको बारेमा अतिरञ्जित प्रचार गर्नुमा लाभ थियो र त्यही गरे । अनि यी पछौटे संसारबाट ल्याइएका निर्दयी पाषाण ह्रदय बोकेका खुकुरी बोकेका अर्धजंगली नेपाली गोर्खाहरू मान्छेको टाउको छप्प हानेर छिनाउँछन र तिनीहरूको रगत पनि पिउँछन भन्ने खालको प्रचारको प्रयोग गरी बेलायतले फ्रेञ्च र जर्मनहरू माथि मनोवैज्ञानिक अस्त्र प्रयोग गरेको थियो र यही कारण जर्मन तानशाह कैजरले भनेका थिए '"गोर्खालीहरू सानो कदका हुन्छन् तर तिनको निर्दयिताको कुराले मेरो मन हल्लिन्छ " । यो कुनै पुरुषार्थको बखान थिएन बरू घृणाको अभिव्यक्ति थियो एउटा धन कमाउन स्वामिभक्ति देखाएर आफ्नो निष्ठा क्रूरताको कृत्यका लागि बेच्नेहरूकालागि।

अत: गोर्खाली बीरता भनेको केवल बेलायती गोराको प्रचार हो । मुलुकका लागि गोर्खाली बीर हुन्थे भने सुगौली सन्धिमा नेपालको आधा भूभाग गुम्ने पनि थिएन र बेलायतीहरू गोर्खालीको बीरताबाट त्यति बिघ्न प्रभावित थिए भने , उनिहरूले नेपालको भूभाग बलजफ्ति खोसेर जाने बेलामा विशाल भारतको विसालतालाई थपेर छोड्ने थिएन । मुसलमानका लागि पाकिस्तान दिनेले हामीबाट लुटेको मुलुक हामीलाई दिने नैतिकता किन प्रदर्शन गरेन , बेलायतले ?

अत गोर्खाली बीरताको बकवास केवल लाहुरेको परिवारको लागि ठीक होला अन्यत्र कतै नगर्दा वेश हुन्छ ।

अत: गोर्खाली बीरता भनेको केवल बेलायती गोराको प्रचार हो । मुलुकका लागि गोर्खाली बीर हुन्थे भने सुगौली सन्धिमा नेपालको आधा भूभाग गुम्ने पनि थिएन र बेलायतीहरू गोर्खालीको बीरताबाट त्यति बिघ्न प्रभावित थिए भने , उनिहरूले नेपालको भूभाग बलजफ्ति खोसेर जाने बेलामा विशाल भारतको विसालतालाई थपेर छोड्ने थिएन । मुसलमानका लागि पाकिस्तान दिनेले हामीबाट लुटेको मुलुक हामीलाई दिने नैतिकता किन प्रदर्शन गरेन , बेलायतले ?

अत गोर्खाली बीरताको बकवास केवल लाहुरेको परिवारको लागि ठीक होला अन्यत्र कतै नगर्दा वेश हुन्छ ।

Professor Sir Ralph Turner, MC, who served with the 3rd Queen Alexandra's Own Gurkha Rifles in the First World War, wrote of Gurkhas

                I do respect the fact that people have their own opinions, thoughts, perceptions regarding whatever subject but I would not believe your ignorance if you are a Nepalese. I really don't know the definition of bravery in your words as a Bhupi Sherchan follower who never knew the consequences of going into such a war conflict zone(kuwako bhyaguta). The dictionary meaning is:The quality of mind enabling one to face danger or hardship resolutely. It was because of the person in power that the rest of Nepal's previous part was merged into India.Please do some research before you speak out on such a sensitive matter. The second world war was all about the Germans, Americans, Italians, Russians, the whole of Europe fighting each other and there was no need for the Nepal's participation in it.The Gurkhas army was sent as a helping hand to prevent the Germans from invading UK. That was not for money, that was as per the duty call as a friend to the UK government and was told that if we win, we will win by your side or else lose by your side. So what if it was for money, we all do a whole lotta garbage for money. Of course the situation is different now, but if you go and ask the old ladies who faced the war in UK, they will cry in your lap saying the Gurkhas saved their husbands. The Gurkhas were everywhere from Burma fighting the Japanese to the Europe fighting the Germans. And guess what, the German and the Japanese Army were only scared of the Gurkhas, maybe because of the psychological effect, but it's really surprising that one of the ruthless German and Japanese army simply believed and ran away.  Lots of British, American people died and they were brave too. It's really funny for you to think of only the Gurkhas fought the wars haha, of course the ratio was far less. Anyways, more of the Gurkhas were praised for their honesty, loyalty and sacrifices with Victoria crosses than their counterparts British, let alone the other deserving ones who went unnoticed. It's not about the size dear, it's about the speed and determination, the passion and the sense of responsibility. Necessity is the mother of invention. These people were not wild, these people knew how to work hard, how to cross the river to get back home,how to climb the trees to get the fruits and feed their children, how to harvest crops in such geographical locations considered one of the hardest in the world.I don't know about today's generation but I'm proud that they were a significant part when the world needed them, I'm proud that they went on with their courage though they were afraid(not brave according to Sumedhu),I'm proud when people appreciate leaving flowers in their cemeteries in France, I'm proud when they are respected with the parades once a year in UK, I'm proud when their statues are saluted in Italy, I'm proud when people say they were and are the bravest of the brave. Bhupi Sherchan is just a s.h.i..t poet and Sumedhu, please follow his footsteps if you like. Don't bring his s.h.i..t here. Please keep his s.h.i..t with you and be happy.

Somedhu you sounds like anti-nationalist comminist who dont want to see, hear or like nepalese culture, history and facts. Do you belongs to the family who live somewhere near Nepal border, got nepali passport eat nepali food and live in india?

Truth is truth and we should not eulogise the mercenary servitude to other nations as our glorious history.

We can never be called great by being utilised to kill other's enemies when we are continuosly treated derogatorily  as ignorant and innocent loyals to other foreign masters.

Do you people who are the the vocal exponents of this so called Gorkhaism really  think  that this has helped enhance the national ientity of Nepal ? Never, no where . If they  have ever been admired by anybody , they are none other than the colonialist British masters themselves who have their own agenda of interest in doing so. No Americans , no Europeans other than some Britishers will come to admire these Gorkhas. Go to Indonesia , north Africa or Latin America especially Argentina and ask the people there of the Gurkhas many of them who have got even the worst vague or faintest  memories of the Gurkhas ' attrocities at the command of their their Britis masters , the localswill call them as mercenary Butchers or even heartless canniblas. I got such a horrible tale about the Gurkhas from one of my Indonesian friends Mr. Susanto whom I met in Amsterdam a coupl of years ago. He said that there is a statue of Gurkha soldier in his town with the soldier'smouth stuffed with currency notes to show that he is a mercenary. The flip side of the coin tells us that the Gurkhas have been utilized by their masters as ruhless and heartless killers but since they publish a few books eulogising them we tend to believe that this is the only reality. In fact , I have met no people except the British and thei descedants spread in Australia giving any positive description about the Gurkhas.

Reality may sound harsh, but try to listen to the other side version of the truth. If the Gurkhas were brave, their bravery tag is associated with their warfare cruelties and killings. If they have killed, there are people with the bitter experience meted out on them. Wouldn't they be telling the sad tells of Gurkha attrocities ? Of course they will. Why aren't we prepared to believe that there is the flip side of this so called brave and romantic depiction of our bravery. Do not be dragged by this romanticised description by the masters who utilised our ancestors merely to kill their enemies when we had no enemies of our own . 

As for Ralph Turner, after retiring from the Gurkha platoon , he became a researcher and Christain priest to convert Nepali lahures into Christianity. He compiled the well known Turners' dictionery in Nepali and remained a life long admirer of Gurkhas and Nepalis  and of course to make them enlightened with the new religion. A Gurkha commander will definitely praise them, what starange thing is there?

Sumedhu, please carry on what you have to say, I mean it is forum and you are fully entitled to your opinion, anyway thats what I feel personally.

But let me tell you this: In life there is no way you can please all the parties so you have make a compromise, therefore there will always be some party who will be angered or won over.
