Why we need Nepal as a Hindu country?
- In Nepal, Hindu religion has never influenced the legal system like in Christianity
or in Islam; it is more a ritual practice which doesn't impose others
to follow the same. No fundamentalism was ever get encouraged in
Nepal. It remained Sanatan Dharma.
- No rules from Dharmashastra as in Islam have ever come into force.
- If
you see UK, USA and many other developed countries, they revere their
religion (Christianity) in national level (see US constitution). They
take oath of Bible while getting into office. But have you seen anyone
in Nepal taking oath of Gita? It is such a liberal practice in Nepal:
it could have been made taking into account that there are
multi-ethnic, religious people in Nepal.
- Hinduism
as practice in India and Nepal are different. Nepal's is much unique
that accommodates all. In Nepal, it is ritual based, not a doctrine
based. The Gurung, Magar, Rai and other communities who are said to be
non-Hindu Janajatis also celebrate Dashain but not as a compulsion. But
do they celebrate Id-Ul-Fitra just because they are living in
Arghakhachi or Nepalgunj? or can Muslims celebrate Dashain as Gurungs
do? If anyone questions: Rai and Limbus celebrate Dashain because of
Hindu's pressure, thats never the case in Nepal. Is any Newar Buddist
barred from visiting Pashupatinath? whereas a Muslim is barred or a
Christian is barred, because without doing so, they could not be
controlled in the wave of proselytizing in the past. My point is
Nepal's Hindu practice is ritual
based, not a doctrine based.
- As
we see, the Hindu population in Nepal is decreasing due to Christianity
they have missionaries to change religion, but do we ever think to
change other's religion? Have you ever done that? But ask a Muslim and
you will get answer about how many non-Muslims has s/he already
converted into Muslim. same in Christianity.
- Early in its history, in the absence of other competing religions,
Hindus considered everyone they came across as Hindus (Sanathan Dharm)
and expected everyone they met to be Hindus. Hindus have never done
business of religion. Hindu view of religious freedom is not based on the freedom
to
proselytize, but the right to retain one’s religion and not be subject
to proselyzation. Don't we have the right to protect our religion from
being proselytized?
- since we don't believe on
conversion of other's religion but others (such as Muslims and
Christians) do and they are financially better off, we are always
vulnerable to sell our faith (as is seen in remote villages of Nepal),
Should a state do justice to Hindus who are 83% in protecting their
religion or should it be a witness to a rampant annihilation upon
Hindus by Christians in the name of religious freedom and secularism?
- If Hindus were intolerant
and suppressive of other minorities of Nepal, how could Muslims in
Kathmandu remain safe and secured, up keeping their religious freedom
in the heartland of Hindus for more than 200 or so years? If Hindus
were suppressive, they could have swept Muslims' identity into dust.
Did they do that? And again, it is not wise to compare the Hindu Muslim
politics of India with Nepal. Nepal's is an exemplary case of religious
harmony which was possible due to its being a Sanatan Hindu state.

I don't understand. We are not talking about making Nepal a Buddhist State, a Christian State or a Muslim State. We are only talking about making our country a secular state. How can that be any problem for Hinduism? Is Hinduism so weak that just because our country is not declared a Hindu state, the entire religion is in danger? Even if Nepal becomes a secular state, Nepal will always be a predominantly Hindu nation. Nepal will be known for Pashupatinath Temple not for a mosque or a Church. Those of us who are advocating secularism are not saying Hinduism should be discouraged. And as for non-Hindus being barred from entering Pashupatinath temple, that is ridiculous. Nowadays lots of Nepalese are Christians, Muslims or pagans. I myself being a Christian, have entered Pashupatinath temple a number of times. Noone stopped me and asked me what my faith was. What if an atheist enters Pashupatinath temple? That is a practice that is now obsolete and impractical. Times are changing and Hinduism should also change. Hinduism should start accepting people who want to convert into Hinduism on their own free will. As of date, Hinduism does not allow anyone to convert into Hinduism. To become a Hindu, you have to be born of Hindu parents. As for forceful conversion of religion, that should not be tolerated. Noone should be forced to change their religion. That is why our entire Christian community is hated by non-Christians in Nepal. Many missionaries in Nepal have probably misinterpreted their calling for spreading the word. Spreading the word of Christ means spreading love not buying off people in need. That is why I agree that any conversion other than that of free will should be prohibited and punishable by the law. A true Christian never forces anyone to convert into Christianity.

JharekoPat seems to be a new immigrant who presumes to get a green card if he accepts Christianity--not a very new step that I have witnessed in immigrants. The question is: is it really worth? FYI, I am neutral about religion; religion plays no role in my life.

FYI, I was a Christian in Nepal for many years before I came to the USA on a student visa. And I fully realize that green card process has nothing to do with my religion. And even more importantly, I have not even applied for a green card. As for my conversion, it was out of my own free will. Noone talked me into it. I was getting more and more disillusioned from Hinduism and its flaws, like caste system and all, and I was not an atheist or agnostic. I then found Jesus. But having converted into Christianity I have discovered that Christianity is not free of flaws either. I believe in Jesus Christ that is why I call myself a Christian. But I don't see eye to eye with many of the church's doctrines, especially those regarding the church's view on the followers of other religions. I, being a christian, however respect other religions. I believe, even though they use different names for God, in fact we are all praying to the same God. The church however strongly refutes that theory. My many Christian friends frown upon my taking part in hindu festivals like Dashain (which to me, is a secular/social festival not a religious one). Please don't question my faith. My faith in Christ is what I believe in and it is not something I make use of.

Nepal should NOT favor any religion. It should be a secular state. A secular state which should not have any king. The bad sides of hinduism should also be eliminated i.e. caste system, discrimination, bahunbad, looking at king as living god etc. Nepal need a revolution and move forward in the global economy. Jai Desh!

I respect Jharekopaat for your belief on Christianity and your
conversion if that was based on your free conscience. I don't have
problem. Hindus also believe the same. But I have problem with the the
missionaries that your trinities are operating in Nepal. In a country
suffering with a freakin' abject poverty and illiteracy, the
missionaries are there day and night with a single aim to convert
people of Sanatan Dhama (which is far from any indoctrinated religion)
into Christian, by luring and enticing them. Do you know the hidden
reason behind Jimmy Carter's multiple visits to Nepal? Has any former
president visited Nepal so frequently? It was not just aimed to resolve
Maoist crisis in Nepal, rather the flip side of the coin has to do with
taking an optimum advantage of the fluid state of politics in Nepal to
boost proselytizing (conversion). FYI: Carter remained a staunch
Southern Baptist for 25 years. Listen to his remarks: how many times
did he utter "Hindu state" last time while he was in Nepal. His Carter center's Health programs
focussed in Muslim populated African poor countries are also driven
towards that direction: Christian Humanism's garb !!! The reason I am arguing for the Hindu state is merely due to 2 reasons: 1.
Nepal has established precedent of working mutually with every other
religions despite being a Hindu State and every other religious
communities have felt safe under the Hindu state. It is because Nepal's
case is not like fundamentalists. As I discussed in my previous post, we have an
example of how the tiniest of Muslim communities are living a happy
life in Kathmandu for more than 100 years despite having the fact that
Nepal was a Hindu state throughout the history. 2.Since Hindus
don't either believe to entice others to change their religion whereas
the others do ( such as Christians/Muslims), what can be the
consequence? just think rationally. It is mathematically true that if
you don't protect yourself from being converted (given the situation
that you are vulnerable to convert due to so many constraints ) you are
ultimately prone to be either a Christian or Muslim. Isn't it? Don't we
(who are 83%) have right to protect our religion from being frozen into
the history by missionaries and proselytizers? We do. THERE IS NO
ALTERNATIVE OF NEPAL REMAINING A HINDU STATE. NEPAL CAN REMAIN WITHOUT
the KING THOUGH. ITSCA, thanks for ur comment. You are right that Gyane and B.K. Singh have got undue benefit. I agree on that. I would not let them do what they are doing. But here the problem in the long run is of the identity: its our ritual, culture, heritage and more than that its our being than just a religion as Hindu. Hindu as a religion is not attached in me for its doctrine but its rituals and culture. What's the meaning of our being if we're uprooted of our rituals and culture? I am worried at this particular point brother.

Awatar, Ghantako revolution for global world? revolution at what cost? At the cost of one's own culture? Adopt Christianity could be a good revolution for you. There is no caste system in Hinduism. Its just a by-product of some handful of Hindu rulers in the past. Sautako ris poi maathi pokhnu vayena ni.

In the age of resoning its funny how people are talking about religion. Religion was made by people for the few people to control large amount of people by belief on super power and bla bla bla... Religion has done nothing good but killings of millions upon millions based on religion. Do people really believe there is god? or other supernatural power that is looking at actions of every human being and will deal with them when they die...I dont really care if they call nepal a hindu state or not. I would be more happy if nepal starts being called a rapidly developing country emerging out of poverty rather than a secular or hindu state.....this is just my opinion.

sarkozy, Narrow-minded people like you are the biggest obstruction for the development of Nepal. You live in US and have backward mind. We need democracy in Nepal which is no discrimination based on religion, race, ethnicity and language. You cannot favor Hindu religion and Nepali language over other religion and cultures!! I hope you have learnt this much by living in US. Peace!

to all who are not hindus
there is merely a few thousand of you(other religions) and there are millions of hindus in Nepal
we let you build your freaking church and mosque's too. We haven't stopped u but you aholes want to eat the whole hand that feeds you.
a little is not enough for mofo's
I am all for Shiva Sena like revolution in nepal. whatever WHF has said will happen.... if the Maoist won't declare nepal a hindu state then we will fight by the backing of all the hindus in the world (that is how we will get our guns).
AWATAR -- you need to hold your self when you freaking talk about hindusim in nepal.... I had met a mofo like you here in Baltimore he was a Gurung I told him to get off my face if he didn't want to get hurt.. suckers changing religion to get greencard and telling who is going to save me???? if I didn't believe in Christ... I told him if you do'nt move out of my face you will need to find your saviour again......
I am not against your religion go do your thing and let me do my thing... there are hundreds of Christian and Muslim countries in the world where other religions are not tolerated. You will be even prosecuted if you don't follow their law in their country that is it doesn't matter where you from but if you are a woman you need to wear a burka.
I don't think Nepal is that intolerant. We can't have a secular state.. that thing should have been voted by the people. That is why there will be a war again.
We don't need the king but we need our hindu nation back!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awatar- Nepal will only be a secular" nation symbolically but she will still remain a Hindu nation for a long-long time. India is a secular nation but she is by all means a Hindu nation. She is called Hindustan.

I just want to say this again .. Nepal has been and always will be a predominantly Hindu nation. All we are saying is keep religion out of government. A true government should be free of any religion, community or ethnicity.
