Most of you already know what happened with him last month. There are various angles to comment. But at this time he needs help. Chicagoland nepali pariwar is co-ordinating the fund raiser- www.cnpariwar.org which has a pay-pal link
Shiva has been in languishing in jail for a month and meanwhile, not much has happened. Due to his being in a ward where he was not permitted to call out for over two weeks, as a result of which his phone connection was disabled, he was unable to contact me until last weekend after the connection was restored. He is understandably apprehensive of his November 10th arraignment and, rather unhelpfully, his Public Defender has not been in touch with him or available for some time. It appears imperative that outside counsel has to be retained and soon.
Unfortunately, our fundraising has stalled at about $5,500, an amount inadequate to retain credible legal services. He has asked me to send a special appeal to his friends to help him in his hour of need. Before anyone gets the impression that this is an appeal for funds to be used for his prolonged legal expenses, let me clarify that the intention is to get a current one-time resolution in his case that positions him to continue the case on his own. I will not go into the options or the possible legal ramifications here but suffice it to say that retaining qualified counsel is the best way to help him at this time. He realizes that and stresses it repeatedly in his calls to me.
I think it is time for his friends and countrymen to step up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As some people may think he is a doctor and might have lots of money. This is not true.Dr Acharya is from Padampur Chitwan and went through a big struggle in his career. He has always remain simple and his ultimate aim was to do something for the nation and Chitwan. He had just completed his 1st year of Internal medicine in St John hospital in Chicago. Recently had gone through an intense personal stress and was very depressed and was not in a state to act normal. That is the main reason for this incident and anybody can realize that no normal person does what he did.

My sympathies are with him. But why the hell did he come to US if his aim was to do something for the nation and Chitwan. Our government spends millions to produce doctors and what they give in return is they leave the nation and serve some other countries just for their own sake. If he really had intention of serving the country and Chitwan , he would have been in Nepal and never left the country( so stop saying his ultimate aim is to serve the nation ). I hate it when people just care for themselves and beg in the name of country. Tell me something which he did so far for the nation except betraying it. Dont give me an answer that he had plans to return to Nepal after finishing his residency and serving it. He is a guy who prefers to spends thousands on luxury cars just for himself . Ask him if he have ever donated anything for the poor and needy in Nepal .
Give me a good reason to support him . And i am not a Nepali who will stand for nepalese like him.
I am very sorry to hear what happened to him.

I would donate to help him even if he has committed a crime if he had donated for the helping out other nepalese people in the past when people needed help. Can you give some example and some proof on where and when he donated to help nepalese community before ?

Guys ,
Yes, It would be rather rational to help what ever you can do in times of his need . It's not wise to ask what he's done so far or else.
Just Imagine you are in his feet right now, may be by fate or misfortunate , what would you expect from your friends or other nepali.
Whether he's a doctor or else, no matter right or wrong, if you are kind enough to give him a second chance. Do help him. If you don't want to help just ignore the thread or don't ask stupid questions that may play adeverse affect on him !
Cheers
UT

Dr. Shiva Acharya is a victim of his own deeds. So I believe it is extremely difficult to generate funds for him. I donated good sum of money during the koshi flood incident. As much I have sympathy for him but if I have to donate again I will again donate for the flood victims rather than Dr. Shiva Acharya. When somebody drives recklessly, kills a person and runs away. Do we need to pay for the person's legal battle? Unfortunately these things don't appeal me and I am sure it is the same for other sajha members.

Based on common friends, I haven't heard any negative things about him.If we can, it's not bad to help in some way.
enjoy215, you are right about the government's huge investment on technical manpower. Where is the 'legal bond' after graduation? When will government think about this? Where is Nepal Medical Council and concerned organizations on this matter? In the name of 'democracy/loktantra' everybody is looking for freedom no matter what is his duty. This leads to opportunist human behaviour. If somebody sees better opportunity somewhere in the world, what should he need to do? There are many people outside Nepal who could return to their country, if there is not 'miserable life standard' anymore.
rtdin and cnpariwar,
Can you please display the donor's name list on your website?

Yeah, If you can display donor's list and possibly some photos from the website that may draw few people to donate. That www.cnpariwar.org just directs to a website. There should be proper donation webpage.

I'll donate some dollars to him. After all he is a nepali who unfortunately, because of his own action fell in such situation. Accidents might happen to anybody.Yea,it's his own fault. He was a fool, stupid. Binasa kale biparita buddhi!!!!But now he is already in a situation where he needs support from fellow nepalis. One can give up a night out or $10 for pizza for one day.We praise and support people when they do something good. Why not donate $5 or $10 or more if one can when one is in need of it.Money comes and goes.We supported Prashant,we supported others who were in desperate need. But we can donate few bucks to him too based on humanity. If somebody does bad deed ,one need not talk ill of him.
Anyway,it's my personal thinking.
Peace.......

I am ready to donate him if he announces that he would not do any wrong deeds again in the life and he is committed to support Nepal and Nepalese from now on.
The comment should come from his heart.

You are not "compelled" to donate, please keep that on mind. If you are not willing to help that's fine but what do you see wrong on his amnesty?

Why should he get amnesty? His deeds dont deserve one. I agree everyone deserves a second chance but not people like him. Everything he did was for himself. He is a doctor who saves lives . After he hit someone during his escape , he never bothered to stop and help instead he ran. What does that signify? He is all for himself. One who doesnt care for other peoples life after holding the license to save lives doesnt deserve amnesty. Ask the victims family if he deserves amnesty?

Stat bro and all who support this thread,
Mr. Paras killed people............should we help him to bring back his crown if he ask for pardon?............and should we look on wrong or right side of his amnesty?
In my view ..........this is the guy, instead of saving/helping people and who should be showing social norm to public did just oppsite...............
see the points:
1. he drove more than state limit ..........which is fine (can be excused)
2. didn't stop when officer requested him to stop.....................which is not fine
3. killed innocent................which can't be excused
3. hided in bush/jungle for 4 hours.................which can't be excused
No matter who ever either family member/king/rishi/gurus/god..............if sin is exercised by anyone the culprit need to be bring to justice other wise there will be kaliyug.................
Please don't beg here in sajha for culprit.......................try asking help for those who are suffering in flood in Nepal, who are dying everyday in humla/jumla because of food.

what a funny thread......a criminal must be punished thats all we know.
CNP..remember this organisation is not formed to shelter a criminal. This guy is living in a very standard jail...this organisation better needs to go back to nepal and rescue some of the criminal living in a jail like hell. need to think about their health, food and education. This mr acharya is just a reckless drunkard and need to go through all the consequences of his wrongdoing.

Thanx for all the comments. I appreciate your time and effort to put these words.
Everybody realise that whatever he did during this incident was wrong. It is his misfortune and he is already suffering. Even for us who know him closely - it was a bad shocking news and we reacted the same way and he was lucky enough to survive that accident.
The list of donors is very anemic. Only some of his close friends have helped. Chicago Pariwar is co-ordinating the fundraise and I do not have the list of donors except the following:

Brooklyn, NY
