I was wondering if someone could tell me what a "decent" stipend sum is. Also, what's the highest stipend amount you've heard of?

Are you refering to Assistantship or schlorship? Stipend is not commonly used in USA. It is mostly used in India.

Usually it is mid 20 and you will enjoying tuition free but it may be higher depending upon the funding  available.
Please do not be sarcastic all the time, this dude wanted to know what is the highest acquaintanceship awarded. No hard and fast rule for dollar amount but the funding .

Highest I have ever heard: Euro 60,000
Minimum ever heard of: $17,000
Descent = depends on where your school is located. I would consider a stipned that covers my tuition, fees, rent, food, and other necessary expenses.

Appreciate your feedback. But I'll have to admit that I'm more concerned and confused that ever.

Here's the case. One of my buddies is in his senior year and he already got accepted into a grad school for bio-chemistry and he is gonna get $22,000/year and along with that, he's gonna enjoy a full ride. Another friend just started her Masters in Accounting and she's getting a full ride along with $9,000/year. Now someone told me that what she received wasn't a big sum ( of course, to anybody else, full ride for Grad School is more than enough ). So that's why I thought I'd ask.

Now moving on, have you guys heard of someone who doesn't have a 3.0 GPA and doesn't have anything attractive in his resume succeeding to get Graduate assistant ship or am I asking basically an impossible question?

Quagmire: I suggest you make your questions clear and understandable. As someone else pointed out you do not use adjective like "decent" for stipend payments. It is supposed to be something to cover your living expenses fully or partially and not to make you a millionaire. You should have asked what the average for a field of study X, a state/country Y and general idea of the university, eg., rank #Z is... I would be on crack if I I asked you how much it would cost me to by a 'decent' lunch without specifying what I would like to eat, the type restaurent, location etc? Hope you come out of grad school learning how to ask questions...

Quagmire, 3.0 GPA is not enough . But I might be wrong here. There are so many players when you apply for Graduate school and so many factors that they look @ and besides all, it matters too where u applying. As newlynew said, be little more open when u ask these kind of questions. I know a person who has perfect GPA in undergraduate, but didn't got any form of assistanship. He applied to some of the top 25 universities. Few things that matters when applying to masters

ur undergrdaute GPA (most importantly last 60 credit hours ) however, this depends on college

ur activities and participations in various organaziations

ur resume and work experience.

how close u are with teachers ( in most cases the head of the deparments decides who gets what), and luckly he is ur teacher in undergraduate too. links with the current guy who is about to graudaute and its his place u will be taking.

and i guess i missed few others here.... and finally offcourse college where u applying. theirs fund, total no of applicants, their expectation of students overall perfromance, and few others

There are about 20 students at Harvard altogether and 10 at MIT, more than half of whom are grad students (either in a Master's or a doctoral program). A MIT post-doc earns, depending on the lab and the kind of research, anywhere from $38,000 to 50,000+, the latter especially if it's one of the endowed/spnsored fellowships with industries like Novartis. 

I get 26,000 per year with health insurance. I think places there pay more also because living expenses are rather high. I know that UF pays 26000 per year for its Biomedical Sciences PhD but it stretches quite far compared to us living on the east coast. Where do you go to school Funky Buddha?
