WTF is this gadimai mela. Why is 200000 animals are sacrificied. Why animals are beheaded and this blood are eaten. This is so angering. Even though I am hindu i just hate this unjustful killing. You buy and eat what is sufficient to you. Not go out and kill 200000 animals.
Ripping the throat off animals......inhuman

I hope this brutality stops. No Gods want blood. I hope we are educated enough not to follow this Orthodoxy which makes no sense. Half million animals. We have seen enough bloodshed in Nepal. Not any more. May all living being live in peace and harmony.

Baburam I am not saying anybody to be vegetarian. Only kill what you can eat. Not kill in millions in the name of god. Take an example of Dashain. Many goats, Chickens buffallos are killed. People eat meat every day in Dashain whether they like or not. It is just that they have to eat meat rather than they want to eat it. They will keep it in freezer and eat for 4-5 days in breakfast, lunch, dinner. May be in 4-5 days quality of meat will go down but it wont matter. Is it mandatory that you kill a animal in your house and eat it for days? Why not buy it from somewhere that is just sufficient for you. Nobody is asking people to be vegetarian. But unjustful killing of hundreds of thousands of animals in dashain and melas should be stopped. one goat can easily be good enough for 4-5 families.

Human is an animal, too. This kind of behavior is normal. BUT!!!! Human are intelligent enough to choose to be part of it or not. BTW, killing animals in the name of religion is not a crime.

"killing animals in the name of religion is not a crime". r u saying this because its not a law. It is cruelty. It is unhuman. Those people in the above pic are just appearance of human. They don't know what they are doing. They have problem inside their head.

this might be a little bit on a tangent but I would like to ask what would be a human, un-cruel way of killing a animal purely as a food source.

If One goat is enough for 4-5 families. How do you know that that goat is not for 4-5 families. It could very well be. It is your opinion that 1 is enough for 4-5 family. Some eat more some eat less. If you eat meat, I don't think you should be complaining about how they are killed or how many are killed.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091124/ap_on_re_as/as_nepal_animal_sacrifice200,000 animals to be sacrificed at Nepal festival KATMANDU, Nepal – Hundreds of thousands of Hindus gathered at a temple in southern Nepal on Tuesday for a ceremony involving the slaughter of more than 200,000 animals, a festival that has drawn the ire of animal-welfare protesters. A Nepalese minister said it was the largest sacrificial slaughter of animals in the world. Protests have occurred in recent weeks in towns near the Gadhimai temple and in the capital Katmandu by animals rights activists and other religious groups. However, Hindu organizers refused to halt the slaughter saying it was a centuries-old tradition. More than 200,000 buffaloes, goats, chickens and pigeons will be killed Tuesday and Wednesday at the temple in the jungles of Bara district, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of Katmandu, to honor the Hindu goddess Gadhimai.Chief government administrator in the area Taranath Gautam said hundreds of thousands of people began lining up in the early hours of Tuesday, and the animal sacrifice rituals had started. The Gadhimai festival is celebrated every five years. Participants believe sacrificing the animals for Gadhimai will end evil and bring prosperity. Many join the festival from the neighboring Indian state of Bihar, where animal sacrifices have been banned in some areas.
Critics say the killings — carried out by slitting the animals' throats with swords — are barbaric and conducted in a cruel manner. "We were unable to stop the animal sacrifices this year, but we will continue our campaign to stop killings during this festival," said Pramada Shah of the Animals Nepal group. Government minister Saroj Yadav said he believed the festival was the biggest animal sacrifice in the world. "We haven't heard a bigger number. ...We are certain this is the largest one," Yadav said. The slaughtered animals are taken back by devotees to their villages and eaten during a feast. The meat is considered blessed and consuming it protects them from evil.

been there once with my family when i was 9-10 years old....it was early in the morning and we were in a police station, having tea and waiting for another family.....meanwhile a woman came screaming and bleeding so badly.....somebody chopped off her ear while giving "bali".....we were shocked but the policeman told us they deal with 100s of such cases in a single day.....most of them horrifying than what we saw...... we didn't dare to go to the actual mandir and drove back to home......for me, this is not a religion, this is an insanity......and i don't understand why people are willing to risk their lives just to be a part of the crowd........

what about the killings in dashain in millions of household... we kill them poor animals just to symbolize the victory of good over evil .... and you guys enjoy the festival... you guys cook the blood, their internal organs and enjoy it over cards tika and money... what a blow to civilization... animals have to be killed but at least we can have some certain standards in killing them..... let's say not to torture them while they are killed....
