Palpa is beutiful, have memories of Batase, Jorte and Arghali on the way to my grandparents at Siringa. I was wondering if they have started the big boarding school at Basgadhi (or what w=is the name of that place on the way nearing tanseen, where they have check gate). I was there inspecting the construction site and the work along with one of the promoter Mr. Nepal. I love Palpa, the khapal, the road down jORTE, the arghali phat, the rice terrace, the flowing water in small nalas.

ranighat is sooo disappointing. sorry to say it. it is a beautiful walk from tansen and has a very beautiful location, perched on a small cliff on the banks of the kali gandaki with syangja on the other side. but it is an old, dilapidated building covered in senseless graffiti, for which the government has made no efforts to restore. but it's worth going to for the walk itself.

sanu, i am in fact american. janma yehi thiyo. goro chhu, ke! i lived in gabutung, chirtungdhara for over 2 years as a peace corps volunteer. i taught english at the local government school. if you know the stretch of highway between bartung and aryabhanjyang, gabutung is after ghorabhanda and chilangdi and before khorbari and pokharathok (although many of my students came from khorbari). there is a british gurkha pension camp in my village, maybe you know that? thanks for the compliments! and i like your comments to bhinazu- you gave him pretty good advice.

forget me not, yeah, i know ridi. that's where the people go to bathe for magh sankrati. but not me, too damn cold. december was my last month in palpa. i left on january 4, but i used to go to nanglo's a lot during my 2+ years in palpa. i love their paneer pakoda, "local fresh coffee," and small tomato cheese pizza. dambar-dai, the one magar waiter, was a good friend of mine. and seeing that "it is nice to be back home" sign on the road up from bartung always made me happy!

kalekrishna- do you mean bastadi? where the road forks off towards damkada and the southern part of palpa?

By the way no offence hai ....But i had couple of shangyali classmates when i was in high school, ktm,.....they have really weird hair kya....kasto straight, mathi utheko...same like dumsi...hehe...but that doesn't mean all shangyali have that sort of hair...just those two did....aakha ni chimse chimse huncha hai....

I have nothing against Palpalis.They are just our nice neighbors.Not all Syangjalis are "Fatahas".There may be a few exceptions,I agree.
I don't know the real meaning behind that comparison, I just posted what I had heard from others.

I am from dharan and dharan is better than palpa and syanja.

East or west ..papla is the best....

Dharan is a nice place but lots of lahures....little modernize...but palpa has the taste of nepali pana....very historical.....simple and innocent plp.....

Palpa is a gaon and all people are pakhe gaule. Dharan is a city and lahures have developed it.

i have been to dharan and seen it with my naked eyes....if drinking beers, wearing mini skirt, smoking, blasting the music, guys with long hairs with piece of cloth wrapped up in their hair is developed ..then oh ya..it is way developed than Palpa....

hey sanu, i totally agree with you about dharan. it's a nice bazaar and it's got a great location right at the base of the hills, but it's full of nakalis!
the terai is india jasto. the himals are tibet jasto. which means the pahaar is the truest part of nepal. and in that region, palpa is clearly the most wonderful and beautiful district! famous as the old magar kingdom, palpali dhaka (thank you kunti moktan, for your beautiful song), palpali karuwa, one of the few districts in nepal suitable for growing coffee, and the only district in nepal outside of the valley with ancient woodcarved newari windows. excellent climate and an unbeatable view of the himals from srinigar. no place in nepal can compare with all that!!!
