It is encouraging for us as Nepalese community living outside of Nepal to see so many individuals taking initiatives regarding raising funds for the deceased Nepalese students. I would like to request the ANA (Association of Nepalese in the Americas) to show their support in these causes as well. We all know ANA has been involved in organizing yearly conventions. If they don't use any of their money raised for causes like these involving Nepalese people in the US, what other likely causes should they be waiting for to help out? This is not intended as a negative feedback for the ANA, but a positive suggestion for them. Regards, San

We should learn to appreciate if something has been done by ANA instead of insisting on complaining and looking at weaknesses, and start giving constructive suggestions.

WELL,, its nice to hear that they are taking part in this unfortunate time....i am absolutely sorry for any misunderstanding but still a question rises in my mind and many others..how can we be sure that they r actively taking part in helping the studenst over here in US. i never heard anything from ANA nor through its active memeber about this incidents or anything they are doing at this present difficult time... helping at minesota doesn't imply that they care about students,,,there were many others , who were not even the members of any organization , doesn't know the victims personnally, but still did many the way they could....i am here not to blame or argue on any people or organization..but still in this free world i have right to spaek , the way i fell...common all of u its time to change, change urself the system as in whole...lets not bring the old bad tradition from home over here in foreign land.."WITH MORE POWER BRINGS MORE RESPONSIBILITIES">>>

Dear Sugam, Thank you very much for your message. It is good to know that ANA has been proactive in helping out ANMN in this cause. My posting was only a suggestion if they had not been involved yet. Kudos to ANA for their speedy help offered to the ANMN. I do hope they will support in the other causes for Shekhar and the 4 others in Texas as well as be more proactive in helping out other Nepalis in the US. Thanks to everyone who have contributed to the funds to help out another Nepali family. Nepalese Society Texas and ANMN have done a very good job at a difficult time like this by taking care of a lot of details and taking lead in taking care of necessary things. On the same topic but on a small side note, I think Nepalese organizations should make it a point to update their websites more often regarding what is going on. So that we, as members, know what is going on without having to post questions in sajha to find out the details. Best wishes, San

Forget about funding. Funding after the incident is not enough involvement. I wish ANA and other Nepalis who have shown such enthusiasm on this site would do something to stop slavery of innocent Nepali students in the name of outragerous out of state tution. I personally do not see a difference between a Nepali girl getting lured and sold in Indian brothel or a Nepali student lured to come study in an undergrad program in the usa. Both compelled to work as slaves. Although there is a choice for a Nepali student to returning back without a degree or over rated "lots of money", there is always the pressure of over rated expectance from friends and family back home which prevent them from making the move. I am sure everyone here is aware of the illegal jobs( according to the INS) Nepali students get involved into just to pay their tution. Why can't we be proactive and prevent unfortunate events from happening? why can't we have our brothes come in here with better scholorships? or at least made them aware of the real situation here. why no one even talks about the real harsh situations over here to the youngesters back in Nepal who are dying to come here. What happened recently is a series of very unfortunate events. However, they are gone and they are not going to come back. Why not do something for people who are still suffering? I am sure the departed soul would find more comfort on that than rasing fund for them NOW when they are no longer with us. Why don't we do something for the victims who are coming to join the suffer- force not knowing the real facts of foreign student complications. I know no one can put a gun in thier head , but we can at least give correct information.
