The deal centers on a compromise offered by Republicans that included a temporary worker program backed by President George W. Bush. It also would allow illegal immigrants who have been in the United States more than five years a chance to become citizens if they meet a series of requirements and pay a fine Better I have remained here illegally.............I could be a citizen................People who try to remiain legal and go for legal process to obtain green Card or h1B has many hurdles that govt has placed................God Bless America.

It is not that easy to get citizenship. Even if bill is passed the process will be like this. 1.Every illegal immigrant will be given a wrok visa. 2.They will be eligible for applying green card which takes about 5 - 6 years. 3.After 5 years from green card, they will be eligible for citizenship. Note: The criminal records will also play a big role while approving green card and citizenship.

prajatantra i truly agree with you. giving illegal immigrants the benefits of work and citizenship is truly unfair to those who are law abiding and in as matter of fact work as hard as the illegal immigrants. This is not not democratice of United States. Bush administartion is making another mistake just like when he took US to war in Iraq.

i would have to disagree with you prajatantra. the issue is not about fairness or right and wrong or legal and illegal. more than 12 million people illegal means there is a fundamental flaw in the system. it must be fixed in a resonable and practical way. i don'tsee any harm in giving opportunity to the hard working people to be here legally.

i totally disagree with you Birbhadra. By giving illegall aliens the work and eventual citizenship would bring in more illegal aliens in the future. Just because they work hard dosen't means it justiy the cause for making them into a legal status. Legal aliens work hard if not harder than illegal aliens. So do you think it would be fair if future illegal aliens is denied what this Bush adminstration has give to this 11 million iilegal aliens before jan 2004. they too would be coming here to America to look for better future.

Pasina chuhaune should be rewarded every where. How come US economy sustains without blue job holders coming from elsewhere? So, only good thing that Bush is doing in his life is his attempt to legalize illegals. However, his personal interests is playing the role in this matter i guess. He also needs cheap labors in his oil company.

so Thaha_Panyen due are you stating that whoever comes to America and stay illegally should be rewarded with legal status, be given a job, and eventually ended up being an American provided he /she works hard. so if this is the case, have you thought about in the future? More illegal aliens would come here. So what next?

Bornfree, you can find something fun in my postings in this thread, different from what one can understood literally. Still, I think some of them really deserve it. NOT me, I don't want anything from US. However, ... Some lottery winners and some others who were luckily (recall your life, how lucky you are) able to maintain their legal statuses are really envy of other people who might get legal status because of the bill. It is really a shame to some Nepali that they don't like other Nepali getting legal status who have already completely lost their lives by spending so much years in US for nothing.

born free-- so i n ur opinion wht do u think is the most reasonable thing to do for 12 million and even more illegal people who already live here. deporting them all back isnt reasonable at all and it not even practical. and to make them all felons isnt pratical either b/c its gonna cost us so much money i would rather have that money used for other things like catching child molesters, rapist and murders than put innocent people in jail and crowed the jail. i mean before all this how in this world r ppl gonna catch 12 milion people or so it just a waste of money but maybe i m not seeing wht u r. and those who say that they should all go back on their own who would go back i mean i wouldnt. and wht do u mean by this "Legal aliens work hard if not harder than illegal aliens." do u go work in the fields frm 3am- midnight. i mean in hot summer days when the temperature is like 85-95 degrees do u go pick potatoes oh and many illegal immigrants they die while crossing the desert to come here just to work and earn some money so that they can feed their kids and families totally disagree with u when u say that legal aliens work harder than illegal. i mean they do but i dont think they have to suffer as much as these poor ppl. so i dont know wht u r talking abt. and also i have heard that all immigrants after they have all their paper works and stuff they dont want any other immigrants coming in and becoming legal whts up with that??

Bornfree, sorry, you understood it differently. The "you" was for those who are envy of, not to those with big hearts like you. The things that there are really some illegals who deserve it and who can not get legalization under current system. I did not mean that all deserve it. That's what US gov. should do and is going to do I guess. I am very happy to know that you have legal status over there (you do not fall in the category of 11 million illegals). Congratualtions!

In recent days, there are many hypocrites Nepalese Gorkhe in U.S. who oppose giving green card to all illegal Nepalese. They are acting like this nation was built by their grand dad and mom. Most of them probably forgot, this is not 1st time giving green card to all illegals. Probably, those nepalese who oppose giving amnesty, sometime, someway, were illegal in U.S.

prajatantra-- when u say illegal immigrants dont pay taxes thats not true at all b/c there r all different types of taxes there is sales tax property tax income tax. i think that all illegal immigrant live somewhere whether it is apartments or houses condos. they have to pay property taxes to their apartments and house which goes to maintain and keep running all sorts of things schools hospitals roads etc and they definately buy stuff so they have to pay sales tax. and maybe some of them who get paid under the table may not pay but many of them dont get paid under the table and do pay income taxes as well. and they dont get any tax return like legal immegrants. i hope this bill does pass everybody deserves an opportunity especially those kids who were brought here by their parents and didnt have any choices of their own to decide wht they wanted and have to live a life of fear and no opportunity. not the parents fault either everybody wants their kids to have the best.

This immigration reform bill situation is getting out of hand. The thing couldn't make any progress in the senate today and now those folks are on a 2 week recess. In life there are no free lunches. Too many illegals who have broken laws and have not had a clean slate in the US want to become free riders. After much thought over this heated debate where solid arguments can be made from both sides, I have come to the conclusion that giving work permits to almost every illegal who has entered here before 2004, is the wrong thing to do. It undermines immigration laws and history has a way of repeating itself. This might increase more immigrants wanting to come to the US for a save haven and it would completely be a slap on the face of legal people who did it the right way. Look, everybody worked hard to earn their nickel, that doesn't justify this proposal, plus these guys were enjoying tax free paychecks. There should be a clause that says people who entered here before 2000 can apply for work permits. That means you can clean up the mess of the last 5 and a half years of illegal immigration, by making the pool of eligible applicants equivalent to or less than the pool of people who are ineligible and thus have to leave the country.

hey all the people who supports giving amnesty to illegal are either illegal themselves or are involved in some iilegal activities here in US. actually Thaha_Panyen i agree with you that only some proportion of illegal aliens be given the rights of becoming US citizen eventually. gundaa dude. don't behave like gundaa. what i mean by saying "Legal aliens work hard if not harder than illegal aliens." is that they have to maintain status by going to college full time and working full time. This is not an easy task. While illegal aliens would only be working full time. do you get it how hard it is to maintain legal status. alight people who supports the idea of giving these illegal aliens a legal right to stay in America. So what do you say if another 11 million stays illegally in US in another 4-5years later. Is it fair to drive them away or give them a legal rights again as has been done today?

I think everyone is illigal in one way or the other. Some came to US to study stating that they will return after completion to their home country. They are still here in many catogories. Some came here in a visitor's visa, changed their status. I dream of one world, no country, no religion, no bounderies. Thanks. DakyMangalSingh.

bornfree- of course we know someone who is illegal or we r illegal ourselves otherwise we would be like u igorant. maybe thats wht ur problem is u dont know anybody who has gone through this or is going through with it. oh ya ofcourse working in the fields at 85-95 degree weather waking up 3am to go collect cans( i watched this story in tv) ya of course this is very easy compared to mantaining ur legal status and going to college. oh ya u r absolutely right. if another 11 million ppl r illegal 4-5 yrs later(which is very highly likely) we will make them legal too so r u in student visa who pays for ur college? i mean many students in US doing under grad work illegally. so one might say how is that fair u r taking a job frm an american.
