Sajha.com is not only about fun and games. We can also make an impact for a good cause. Dil Shova's selfless service to the elderly has been applauded many times by sajha members and it is indeed a great cause to support.

Many destitute and the elderly with no support have found a home in Dil Shova's house. They have found a daughter and mother in Dil Shova's heart and her home. Dil Shova takes it as her responsibility to feed them, do their laundry, take care of their basic needs, medical attention/doctor visits, and everything in between to ease their lives.

Any support that we can give her goes on to increase her ability to help more people and to help do a better job.

Please open your "दिल" and make a contribution. This will be a contribution from the combined sajha heart.

Living abroad, we wish we could do something for Nepal. There are a lot of causes to choose from. Every other cause is as deserving as the rest but what sets this apart is that this is about the old and helpless. There aren't too many causes for them. Let us take this opportunity to support a woman whose Elegance is her Heart. Whose virtue lies in helping out the destitute elderly people who have no support in their frail old age.

Please take a moment to visit the donation page to make a contribution.

https://www.wepay.com/donations/the-dil-fund

When we see a homeless person lying helplessly in the street we wish we could do something but we don't do anything. When someone like Dil Shova actually takes destitute old people from the street to her own home to care for them, to provide food, shelter and medical care for them, all we can do is be amazed at the size of her heart and her strength to do something that we could never do.

Let's help and support her. The cost of one drink goes a long way in helping this cause.

This is a great sajha initiative. Reminds me of crowdfunding/crowdsourcing that has become very popular in startups/academics/research.

This could be a start of a platform via sajha where we can directly contribute to many development projects in Nepal as opposed to complaining about it. I also like the idea of having a goal and the points mentioned by SAP DUDE above. Oh! just donated.

Dharke Bro,

Last time i was in Nepal my family gave away 30 Siraks(blankets) to some Elderly homes near Kantipur offfice. Yearly Bhoj is a good jesture on your part but i am a person of Daily Thin Arrarot Biscuit and black tea over once a year Bhoj.

We need to make sure there is a least amount of overhead cost and almost 100% of the contribution reaches Dilshova directly. I would prefer no middleman in the process.

Great thought from SAP DUDE, -------, and SNURP. I hope we all can keep the ball rolling and hopefully will not forget about this after a month.

"This could be a start of a platform via sajha where we can directly contribute to many development projects in Nepal" great thought SNURP. Bigger changes are also possible  by small commitment and small contribution.

@Sanjneel  great decision. APPRECIATED!!

As few of you have suggested, this will serve to be a pilot program for such social service crowd funding initiative through sajha. I am thankful for your generosity and goodwill towards this social cause.

Once the goal is reached the fund will be transferred over to Dilshova Shrestha with concrete proof of disbursement. There will not be any middlemen besides the usual fee for credit card transaction and possibly bank wire transfer.

Please continue to support this fundraiser by sharing the fundraiser amongst your group of friends. It only takes one person in different circles to take the initiative for a successful fundraiser.

If you haven't given yet, please take a few moment to do so. Sometimes it is just the matter of taking 2 minutes out of your busy schedule to give what you can. Many times we procrastinate and in the end forget to give to a worthy cause such as this.

Before I write anything about Dil Shobha I want to condemn those adults who abandon their parents on curbside. Shame on you! I am really happy to see the generosity people have offered to her after the interview. We also know this wave of generosity will subside in couple of days, if not than in couple of weeks, which is obvious. We can not stick to somebody else’s problem forever. We have our own responsibilities and we move on. But Dil Shobha is going to have cash flow problem constantly. Because, first it is funded by other’s emotion and second it is managed by her emotion. Emotions are neither steady nor permanent. She needs to generate some revenue herself to sustain and run this institution. To do so she can use the resource she has and the resource is the residents. The residents are not guest of the family; they are member of the family. I am sure the kids and grand mas’ can do light works. For example, grand mas' can make batti (batti kaatne), kids can make candles, incense sticks, greeting cards etc. They can open a shop in their facility and sell these items. Bijaya Kumar is not going to telecast her interview every six months to nudge our memory or even if he does the surge of willingness to give will decline as she has mentioned in her interview. I read biography of Aani Choying Drolma couple of months back. She runs same kind of institution for kids. I believe it is called Arya Tara School. However, she generates majority of her revenue herself. She is gifted with beautiful voice and she performs in international concerts (chanting mantras) and sells her music albums. Dil Shobha does not have such talent to cash in therefore she needs to be creative in sharing her responsibility. By saying all this I don’t mean to discourage any donors. I am just concerned about this institution’s sustainability. Please donate generously. Our few dollars can build a warm home for those discarded people. San, thank you for making the process easy for us. Dil Shobha, I solute your effort.

You are right nakkali keti. how much can we donate every month and to how many such institutions? Even if we donate our whole salary a month it is not enough. We need to teach them how to be self sustainable by any kind of small work they are capable of. eg. growing vegetables in the terrace if they don't have land.

The people opening such institutions should also learn to be self sustainable in the long run. She opened it because of emotional feeling. We all have that feeling too. But the universal truth is such NGO and INGOs always have deficit if they are not self sustainable.

"There is no such thing like Free in this world." Economics

Dil Shova is right. Ek choti aucha help garcha ani birsincha. We do the same due to our own problems.

Nakkali Keti,

Don't be that quick on condeming folks on abandoning their elderly mothers. There could be a case or two of abandonment but others could just be women without kids especially sons and there could also be ones who were in the street their whole life without anyone  and all of a sudden they were old and sick.

You have brought up some valid points on the sustainability of the program run by Dilshova. But if you watch the video closely, the video is about survival not sustainability. She is surving people who otherwise would be dead in the street. Also, we cannot expect one to make a living by making Cotton Battis and certainly cannot promote children making Candles. It is how it is and it will go as it goes. What Dilshova needs is a Charity Manager who can promote the agenda and bring donations in but once she commercilizes it it loses the personal touch that she is giving in it. Commercilization make donors skeptic about their donations. It brings " budi ra bachha le paune ho ki hoina mero donation" kind of a situation.

One thought that roams in my head is why those charities chose busy and expensive real estate for those elderly homes. Why cant they move to a cheaper place somehwere outside of KTM to run their hostel there? They can even do something like Tarkari farming there and use that money for their benefit. I am thinking of places like Banepa and Panchkhaal. It may or may not apply for Dilshobha but would definitly apply for Maiti Nepal like organization.

nakkali keti, even a dollar out of your pocket every month matters a lot for somebody else but it's too insignificant for you alone. Isn't it? Imagine if the whole 40,000 sajha users contributing a dollar a month, it definitely would make impact for those in need. I don't think a dollar a month is a big problem for us to need that lecturing. May be you haven't seen her whole video but she definitely is generating revenues through her rental. What I personally(may be others as well) was concerned is to uplift the quality of their life and if our small contribution can bring that change then why not. Before lecturing to turn them into small home industry, do you really think those old like above 80 years who can't see could really work? Those small kids who are supposed to go to school and learn something be intertwined into random industrial labor? I don't know but I didn't understand your logic. Your idea of self-dependency doesn't apply here. They need help and we can help them at continous manner.

I would like to add voice to San Ji's and urge all sajha users for good cause, to donate even as little as $1 a month and together it will make a big impact. I don't think I really have to restate our famous quote 'Thopa Thopa Milera Samundra'. May be San Ji could create some fund where Sajha users could donate at least $1 a month or anything on their will and later on disburse it to those in need periodically.

I believe in 'us' and I think together we can achieve this feat.

How many of you remember $1 a month donation box by Mahabir Pun? He is now opening his own restaurant to generate profit and use for his village internet project. because he is out of money by donors. He should have done this a long time ago by donors money and earn profit for his noble cause.

One suggestion from my side is:
I don't know if she has children big enough to do some kind of small business like Donut making and selling in their free time after their study. There is a big profit in that.
The money generated from Sajha, she can invest in buying floor, kerosin oil, stove. The profit she made from that she can pay loan little by little. This is just my advice. A lot of street vendors are surviving like that in Kathmandu selling momos, pani puri. But she needs some extra help for sure. She will not be able to do this alone. She is also an old woman.

@ SAP DUDE

Dashain is coming near. A lot of Nepalese are going to Nepal to celebrate dashain.
One advise to people who are going home this Dashain.

Most of the airlines allow 2 baggage. I advise each and every one of you to take one baggage full of children books or educational books to unpriviledged children back home. You can also take cloths. You can collect those books from your surrounding areas, from your friends and collegues and other people in advance. Feel the happiness when you donate yourself. You don't have to worry if some middleman ate your donation.

Sajha can help you in this too. Just inform Sajha and Sajha will advertise that you are going to Nepal and people from your area can drop books at your house.

You can search in craigslist too. Some people keep all their childrens books and cloths for free. You can go and pick up that too.

Bhunte, you can donate via credit card too. I chose the same option as I think Paypal charges a small fee as part of commission.
