The following report and pledge was received to Nepal Democracy Forum (google group) from one of it's member and a respected journalist in Kathmandu.

My blood is boiling with the report of the massacre of pro-democracy demonstrators by the regime.

I also feel a guilt as I have seen in the images of the protests comprising mostly youngsters from low and lower-middle class.

The rich class (except for the professional groups) are still in their baithak watching TV.

Let's open a "Sajha Fund for Loktantra-fighters" to help the victims of the regime's violence.

"Nepal Democracy Forum" has already discussed about it and I am sure they will immediately proceed. Most probably, a fund will be set up at NAC or other umbrella organizations.

We can contribute to that fund. But how about a Sajha fund ?

Police open fire at demonstrators in Gonganu, over a dozen critically injured

More than a dozen protesters were injured when security personnel opened fire at a demonstration in Gongabu in Kathmandu Tuesday evening.

TV footages showed several injured demonstrators being rushed to hospital as violent clashes between the police and the protesters went on. Red Cross officials, some foreign volunteers and police personnel carried the inured persons to police vans and other vehicles to be rushed to hospital.

According to human rights monitors present on the scene, more than a dozen agitators were shot by the riot police and the Armed Police Force (APF) officials as angry demonstrators threw stones at the residence of police AIG Roop Safar Moktan at Gongabu after unidentified persons reportedly opened fire at the crowd from inside the house.

APF Senior Superintendent Madhav Thapa who was leading the security forces refused to order his men to halt fire despite several requests after a number of protesters were shot at, the rights activists said.

Several rights activists and journalists were also injured as police indiscriminately charged batons at the crowd while dozens others were arrested from the protest that started soon after the daytime curfew ended at 5:00 p.m.

The condition of a number of persons who have been undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital is said to be critical.

I know exactly what you mean dude........we are all confused and worried as well for the safety of friends and family and of course the wellbeing of all nepalese people.............what bothers me is I dont see a solution to this because this is what I think..........Say if tomorrow the king steps down ....Now who will govern Nepal....the same all sevenparties thugs who now alligned them with the maos against the king??? dont you think that once this happens they will fight among themselves to rule?....I blame them for bringing out this present instability in our country........these are the same name the nepalese people kicked out again and again......Girija, sherbahadur...etc etc......Are we Nepalese so Gullable???Blind???
I think it was the 90's when the mao problem started and this was the time political corruption took its height creating the maos.....Not the king......this has been going on for the last 15-16 years...........and when the king took over we expected him to clean the mess created by these same plolitical leaders in a day...or so.........
common people everytime the king tried something the political parties opposed.....oh And the main culprit behind this is that damned country of INDIA......they dont want to see us do good..................They controll the parties and maos.......except the King.....................He is the only Leader who told India to stay out of our Internal matters in the SAARC summit..................Man I tell you guys again ..The Fate of Nepal Is DOOMED!!!

Is there an online portal for donation? How do we support them? Are they expecting support only from the members of the Nepal democracy forum? Why are they not asking for help in public, why just to a group?

Sorry, too many queries...

Upadate regarding the idea of a fund.

In Nepal Democracy Forum, the pledges are already pouring. The mechanism to set up the fund is being discussed.

A fund will be set up probably at NAC. So, willing Sajhaites can pledge there.

*** *** *** *** *** ***

I thank all for updating the news and information and sharing their thoughts.

*** *** *** *** *** ***

Dada-jee,

Knowing you, I understand your sentiments. I would just elaborate that the idea proposed is not for everybody. It's primarily for those who feel for the ongoing popular uprising against the regime. (Remember, the movement is not limited to political parties anymore). And also for those, who have compassion for the hurt, wounded and the bereaved, irrespective of political debate.

In any case, at a fundamental level, it is not about helping the movement. The movement is already powerful enough to sustain and prevail without obtaining a single dollar from the diaspora.

So, it's about ourselves. It's about being a part of/being connected to the historical change happening in the country when we are still seven seas pari from the country.

Of course, there are many different ways we can do that. Pledging for the proposed fund is just one simple way.

On a more serious note, to aspirants of Loktantra, time has come. This is the moment to push the thing to the end.

GP Koirala is trying to save the King (by not accepting the agenda of republic) for his own good (Koirala and his uttaradhikaris do not have intellect and vision to survive in a demanding atmosphere of democratic republic. He knows he can only survive in an ambiguous democracy with the King there to help it make that ambiguity. That's why.)

We can never get rid of Girija-tantra from political parties if only the status quo is restored (Girija is trying to confuse calling it "historical continuity" !).

Getting rid of Girija-tantra in political parties is only possible in an atmosphere with a sense of a total freedom, no-compromise and people's supremacy. And that can not be anything except democratic republic.

So, democratic republic is saying NO to Girija's vision. Democratic republic is for a possibility to make Nepali Congress and other political parties really democratic and fit for ruling Nepal. In democratic republic, they might be, they might not be. But in the status quo with so called constitutional King, they never will change. That's exactly what Girija wants. Not too much change, so that he can continue Koirala-raj.

It's time to say to Gyane and Girija: Give up. We want democratic republic.

I am sorry for taking this thread to my personal political thoughts. But I could not help not sharing them. Sajha ma political guff nagareko pani dherai bhayo.

Viva La Republic !

Lonely1-jee,

You are going to see accounts for the fund sprouting everywhere (various activist organizations) shortly. Anil Shahi-jee might bring more information, as organizations he is closely associated with (samudaya.org , alliancenepal.org ) are also taking steps.

Nepe dai,

Hope to get the donation link soon. This is definitely the right time to push for a revolutionary change.

The protesters should try to use some means to protect themselves, like headgear or any protective covering which can reduce injuries. This may look like policemen, but it can be quite helpful at times.

This popular uprising should not be tranquilled without a major gain.

Is there a list or names and adress of people who have received the fund.

If the fund money can be seen transparently then only people will feel free to donate.

Otherwise...sankai chha.

Definitely my heart goes to the people who r injured, but one thing these bastards leaders are trying to do is make use of common nepalese people. we have to learnto make peaceful protest, putting the house on fire is not the last thing we all want to do, coz it will spread anarchy and that is what the goverment wants coz it will bring different atmosphere and rather divide us and the whole revolution will go down the line.
Bring revolution by burning the narayanhiti palace not the common nepalese people.Bring revolution by hanging king g,girija, makune, baburam and prachanda.
let it be clear if we don't want king g means we also don't want Girija, Makune and all those corrupt leaders. if the leaders think they can get away no. then theyr in delusion.
one morething the most important thing guys, the real civil war have officially started , beleive me there will be multiple groups who will take arms and follow the maoist and my predictions is maosit itself will divide into multiple groups, I won't be shocked if we follow IRAQ or AFGHANISTAN when after killing the big bird we will have multiple birds who will have their own rules.
lastly lets pray for Nepal and Her unlucky nepalese people.

Amricane states,"I am long time BathroomCofee watcher and he is nothing but whochi Mama. Read every single posting of his and you will see who the F*** he is, He is Gyane's Kando Chatua."
Ummm oh really AMRICANE ? I gues you know me more than I know myself than hu !! ha ha ha Did you hear me say EVER I support Gyaney ? But when he did take charge in the very begining I was hoping he would stabalize the country(at that time I did want to give him a chance). But its been more than a year so he is no better than any of those fuking MAOS or POLITICIANS. THEREFORE I DO NOT SUPPORT ANYONE(cause there ain't anyone worth supporting for that don't have skeletons in their closet). BUT SHIT FOR BRAINS LIKE AMRICANE HERE CANNOT COMPREHEND THAT THERE ARE ACTUALLY PEOPLE WHO ARE NEUTRAL. ITS NOT IN THE CAPACITY OF THEIR PEANUT SIZE BRAIN.
I somewhat share the same sentiment with Stillreturns.

1. Donations for the medical assistance feature is already up at
- www.samudaya.org

2. Similar feature at a revamped website of the Alliance will be up by this evening:

Please know that the Alliance was in the process of revamping our website, so some other features (besides Pay Pal for fund raising for medical assitance) may not be working. The current website will not feature Pay Pal, therefore you'd have to wait until this evening (April 11th, 2006) for the new one.

Since this is very urgent and requires immediate action. Let's start donating RIGHT NOW, so that the money will be ready for IMMEDIATE transfer when the coordinating efforts at the Nepal end becomes final, hopefully in just a few days. A couple of organizations that we are trying to get in touch with regarding this are Nepal Red Cross and INSEC.

I will take the personal responsibility of complete transparency of any funds generated via samudaya.org or the Alliance.

Let us act NOW!

How can we make peaceful protests when there is curfew? They dont allow any other to gather, how can it go peaceful?

If the government has guts, it should lift curfew and experience the peaceful protets. The more you suppress, the more violent it gets.

Many of you out there in "bidesh" have shown geniune concern for the protests, however, I am pissed by some here that they say Nepal is doomed and blah blah, they say the revolution should be like this and like that.

Well unless you participate or help, all your talks are nothing but wishful thinking.

How are we to make sure that none of the money goes into anyone pocket considering that there are opportunists in Nepal waiting like vultures?

For transparency purposes, any donations received by Samudaya and/or Alliance will be made public -- unless otherwise directed by the individual donors themselve(s) -- on a daily basis at the Alliance's website starting tomorrow.

At the Nepal end, the funds will be coordinated either by INSEC, or Nepal Red Cross, or some other credidle charity organization. This will be finalized by the end of this week. In the most unlikely scenario, if we cannot arrange for coordinators at the Nepal end, we will happily return the money back to the donors.
