Guys I wish we could have a genuine positive and progressive discussion.
We all see us complaining about dire situation in Nepal. We complain about Nepal Bandhs, corrupt leaders and ever stagnant development of our country. We see people saying so easily..IF U R SO PISSED THEN WHY DON'T U URSELF GO TO NEPAL?.
This time it's just one issue..CORRUPTION.
Corruption is in our society, a well respected vice. In Nepal people gain respect by their bank balance and power, by the number of storeys they have added to their building, no one cares how the money has been earned. One who is honest is doomed. One way to justify stealing is if someone else steals then why not me?? As the only thing u could ever learn from others is just that. In most of the cases ur relatives complain..TAPAIN THE KASTO KAAM NALAAGNE..FALANO LE YETI KAMAYO? do u even know how?
The politicians don't come from Mars. They are born and raised in our society. If our society is like this then how the hell can we expect them to be honest? how can we expect them to fight for issues and not their bank balance? Coz WE R LIKE THAT. AGREE OR NOT, that's the bitter truth. We encourage people to earn more by any means. Then for that we have to give concessions to bad guys. A job in BHANSAAR is high profile job..coz lot of # 2 money u know? and then we expect the politicians TO BE HONEST? GIVE ME A BREAK. Even here in Saajha, I see threads like chornu ramro ki naramro? well it's easily debatable topic whether stealing is good just bcoz our boss steals. What a shame.
Why our country can't produce one honest leader? We don't need to go too far. In India u have Bajpayee or Manmohan Singh or Abdul Kalaam Azaad. Now don't say I am Indian agent.GET A LIFE IF ANYONE THINKS SO. I am talking about corruption here. None of those people can be called corrupt by even their strongest critics. Doesn't mean India doesn't have corrupt people but at least their culture has produced heroes like Gandhi.
Pakistam has Imran Khan. A world cup winning extremely charismatic captain who chose to stay in the country to fight for democracy. Noone can say he is corrupt.
Why can't we produce one leader , JUST ONE who is not corrupt. Reason is our society..it promotes and glorifies corruption.
CAN'T WE HAVE A SOCIETY WHERE WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN IT'S WRONG TO STEAL. IT'S WRONG TO EARN MONEY BY COMPROMISING ON YOUR ETHICS. IT'S WRONG TO BE DISHONEST. AND ITS UNPATRIOTIC AND UNHUMAN TO BE CORRUPT.
Let's have an honest discussion here. I pose this issue as a challenge to all u genuine patriotic Nepalese. RISE OVER THE PETTY ISSUES LIKE ...CAN U EVEN NAME IT ?..AND TALK ABOUT PRODUCING A BETTER SOCIETY SO THAT THEN WE CAN HAVE GOOD LEADERS WHO COULD FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY'S BETTER FUTURE AND OUR AND OUR CHILDREN'S.

Finally,
Seems as if we really have a long way to go. At the same time it also feels that probably sajha.com can engage itself in productive issues even further more.
More than looking at others to blame, and have the MAPAI attitude, it's so very important to look within ourselves and ask honestly if we can improve ourself?
I m proud of Nepal, and I present it to Americans as the heaven in earth naturewise, beautiful locale, country of Mt. Everest and Buddha. But still we have a long way to go.
I have finally decided to say goodbye to sajha and continue my struggle in a different way, at a different place. Probably from my hometown, or from my closest friends and hopefully things will workout.
It was great being here. Friends, anytime anything for our country, if u come up with ideas, feel free to contact me at prabhatk91@yahoo.com. I will be ready to contribute 100 % any time.
Time to say good bye. Good luck to all and thanks for the support.

Unicornis,
Do I need to answer your questions? I don’t think so I guess. All your questions and comments put together and read it. You do that first and throw the question to others and probably you will find that you are in where (track). I never see the “Aalu Bidwan†like you in my life.

oei boka,
i know the answers for my questions. u been pessimistic from the very beginning. those questions were thrown for discussion. i put these questions for healthy discussion not to recieve sarcasm from people like u. if u had known the answers u would have participated with enthisiasm not throw them right back. so who is ALUPANDE or ALUBIDHWAN now, huh?
btw, i know my country and her problems and have plenty of well educated friends here and back home to work for better nepal. and we are already working hard to make things better. who is ALUBIDHWAN now, huh?
it takes a lot of courage to face facts such as we have poor english and way behind our neighboring countries. there are plenty of knowledgeable nepalese out there but ur responses shows u are not one of them. so who is ALUBIDWAN now??
if u can't handle then ignore unicornis comments.

PRABHAT! ARE YOU A QUITTER? DO YOU RUN AWAY FROM PROBLEMS? STAND YOUR GROUND BROTHER, AND DON'T EVER, EVER, EVER QUIT TILL YOU REACH YOUR GOAL!!!
Do you think all five fingers are the same? So, why get turned off by what some people say? This is a democratic platform...let people say anything they wish to. Everybody carries their own burdens and sometimes due to inner frustrations they just say whatever that comes into their minds. Just let it be.
Concentrate on the task that you have in your mind. Don't get distracted by what people say or do especially when it does not jive with your intentions and plans. If you want to do something for Nepal....THEN DO IT! AND NOTHING IN THIS WORLD SHOULD STOP YOU FROM ACHIEVING IT. Do you think its so easy to attain your goals for Nepal? You got to work round the clock till your sweat turns to blood. You got to bear with the frustration of dealing with all kinds of people. You got to develop inner resilience. You got to be like another Mahatma! You got to be thick-skinned. You got to stick with your plan even if hell breaks loose.
I PLEDGE TO STAND BY YOU IN THIS GOAL TILL MY LAST BREATH. Nobody can break you until and unless you allow them to do so. My bones may break, but no one can touch my spirit. Just like you, I LOVE NEPAL and am prepared to do anything, big or small to bring food for the hungry; dignity for the downtrodden; shelter for the homeless; water to feed a dying soul; education for the deprived; etc etc.
I can be contacted at p2ladhar@yahoo.com

Thats the spirit Heartbeat Im there with you till the end....I LOVE NEPAL...................I have not met a Nepali who HATES NEPAL like actually hating the country....they might hatethe politicians, hates the way things are going in Nepal....BUT NO NEPALI I know HATES NEPAL.......exceptions are always there.
Prabhat bro I know that you are not a quitter. If you love Nepal and want to contribute.....hang on in there buddy. There are plenty of us who will.....I PROMISE WE WILL CONTRIBUTE AND DEVELOPE NEPAL WHEN NEPAL STABILIZES AND PROVIDE SAFE AND SECURE GROUNDS FOR INVESTMENT. I rather live in Nepal and do business... than elsewhere in the world. I WANT TO MAKE NEPAL RICHER AND POWERFUL THAN INDIA. Look at Hongkong now..........just a hundred yrs ago it was a small mere fishing village......Nepal wont be that hard to develope if we all stand together. But So many companies have been extorted that .....every potential investor around the world is thinking ten times before investing in Nepal. BUT NEWS LIKE what mr Shiv has written above that its all not that bad encourages me..thanks shiv please keep us updated.

Herat beat and MadDogg,
I can't thank u enough. This encouagement, this support..o for the cause which is to contribute for our motherland, which hasn't excited many as I had expected, which hasn't generated as much support as I had expected, WHERE ELSE CAN I GET ??
For a moment I was confused whether I am using my energy in the right direction. Whether I should change the track and find someother path. But you people have shown me there can be no better place than here coz we have people like you.
I sincerely believe I am a very ordinary human being, but with friends like u and many others I think we can all rise to the occasion and we can all bring the best out of ourselves to bring about the change we desperately need in Nepal.
I wanna put forward this request to all our friends here. LET'S PUT OUR MINOR PERSONAL DIFFERENCES ASIDE COZ THAT DEVIATES US FROM OUR MAIN GOAL. WE ALL ARE EQUALLY ABLE AND WE ALL ARE FRIENDS, BELONG TO SAME MOTHERLAND, HOWEVER DIFFERENT WE MAY BE PHYSICALLY, CULTURALLY, AND ECONOMICALLY.
As I said, ME GETTING A MASTER'S DEGREE IN NO WAY MAKES ME SUPERIOR TO A SLC DROPOUT IN NEPAL. IT RATHER MAKES ME FEEL WHY ME AND WHY NOT HE? EDUCATION IS A PREVILEGE AND NOT A RIGHT.
Thanks a lot friends.

This is an honest appeal to everyone to come and join hands. Let's find a way so that something can be done in Nepal. I sincerely plead all of our friends to jot down the ideas they have.
We can try irrespective of whether we succeed or not.
If our education is of no use to the country where we were born, then this life can be no good as hundreds of corrupt politicians we always complain about.
I want to see who r interested in sajha to join hands. Leaving personal differences aside and giving a thought for Nepal which needs us so badly today.

prabhat,
count me out, man. like i said, i am already doing something in nepal. we have a network of masters and phd's who has similar mindset. we are mostly working to save our unique wildlife and unique ecosystems. but right now we are studying hard to gain as much knowledge as we can and presenting our works and publishing our researches simultaneously.
experience with sajha = speak the truth and u are called names and people think u are humiliating them.
someone just posted the 'UNEMPLOYMENT RATE OF NEPAL' that i have been saying from the first day i signed for sajha.
nonetheless, we have enthusiastic people on sajha who really cares about Nepal. hats off to them and good luck to the rest.
Enjoy

Let's start by getting our priorities right. If there is any need to compare with someone or with another country, let's focus only on the positive aspects. Let's learn from mistakes made by others. Let's keep our personal emotions and opinions aside. Let's broaden our vision and mission. Let's narrow down all possibilities to a single point i.e. BINDU. That means the STARTING POINT. Focus....concentrate.....target....on your goal. Why goal and not goals? Because if you can attain the first single goal, subsequent goals will be a breeze.
If I may propose... start something for the children. They are our nation's future. If the young sapling is tied to a pole, watered and fertilized, fenced against wild animals, it will grow up strong and deep. Then it will provide fruits and shade for the needy. Adults cannot be changed unless they themselves decide to do so. But children are pliable and can be guided to become tomorrow's leaders.
Shall we work on them, for a start?

cool! ok guys I have no problem with anyone being smart or less smart and it doesnot bother me by anykind of boastings of so called smart ppl.I admit I am not smart absolutely not but if anyone compares himself with others and try to generalise it as an priciple I don't weep for his ignorance.
Ok let's get into the point, it is amazing to know that guys are really working in nepal and such a great network is undershadow, i appreciate such effort and will be happy to know if it is really a nonprofit organisation or somekind of suckling in the name of poor nepali.
The wide vision for development would start from revolution in agricultural system, and reformaton by elimination of corruption.
i appreciate some of the corrupt ppl are caught yesterday.

Absolutely heartbeat and haridai. Absolutely yes.
It does not matter who is smart and who is dumb. Who is more educated and who is more proficient in a field. I for that matter believe I m extremely ordinary but if only I can join hands with people like heartbeat, MadDogg, haridai, and several other friends, I might be of some worth.
I believe in seeing positive out of negatives, in diffusing any conflict by stressing on similarities rather than differences, and trying to behave in a way that hopefully enables me to tap the good part of anyone, ignoring the bad part which we all have. After all, who is perfect? Not me, not by any stretch of imagination. We can always better ourselves.
Yes, the real change we can bring is by educating thge new generation about the values. That truth, honesty, forgiveness, hardwork, compassion, ethics and morality are the essential ingredients of our lives. That though we don't have heroes in our generation, but we can produce many many heroes out of the younger generation by teaching them those values. They will turn the table. For start I have taught similar things to young people around me, and my kids for sure, when ever I have them will grow up with those values.
It does not make u great that u have a high education, an extremely successful career, lots of money, and everything.
What makes u great is AFTER U HAVE ACHIEVED THOSE SUCCESSES, R U DOWN TO EARTH AND RESPECTFUL? R U HUMBLE AND POLITE? R U HELPFUL AND TREAT EVERYONE EQUALLY? R U EVEN TRYING TO SET AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW?
If not, then despite having all the success, despite having tons of money and fame, u r as good as a scumbag. A pathetic creature, truly pathetic.
Remember TIM RUSSERT, he is one of my heroes of this decade. He was a great journalist, but he was SUCH A FINE HUMAN BEING THAT EVEN HIS COMPETITORS LOVED HIM. AMERICA MOURNED AS IF A HEAD OF STATE DIED. HE WAS A GREAT FATHER, SON, FAMILY MAN AND ABOVE ALL A GREAT PERSON. WE DON'T HAVE TO LOOK TOO FAR.

Good points every one....keep it comming. I do agree that we need a starting point. But right of this time ....I mean say we started today.........what and where should we start.??? Heart Beat Sis.......I am a business man first and a want to be a social workers too when I have enough money to be one......I wnat to be in the giving end not the rec ieving end...........and I want to bring Business to Nepal and develope the economy of Nepal in the business world (mordanization) in all parts of nepal....which means Making money in Nepal by introducing new business Ideas, new companies, new factories, providing jobs, skills, and oppertunities for all to prosper. I want to attract foregin investors in Nepal and welcome all business trades to improve Nepals own MARKET by producing things ourselves rather than depend on INDIA.....and have a steady import and export trade with other countries. I want to make NEPAL RICHER THAN INDIA AT ALL COST BEFORE I DIE...i also want to utilize Nepals Hydropower and sell electricity to rest of asia.I have many goals......BUT financially I am still not there and so arent many of the well wishers.........WISHERS .......the word WISHERS is the key here......... Like you said I am focusing on one bussiness adventure in Nepal soon as things settle and see how it goes and how much money I can make to start other projects in the country.I can only help with the money I have and earn .......I dont want to rely on Int aid money because of the corruption it brings in our country.

MadDogg Bro,
That's a great idea u have and hope it works out best. At the same time u r absolutely right to say we should be self dependent and don't look for int aid bcoz it brings corruption.
To add to that, I think we have a problem that is deeply rooted in our society. Corruption, it's wide acceptance, inevitability of corruption and eventually making it contagious.
Let me give u an example. I was a civil engineer, in charge of a project which was to construct a road, a park, and sanitary sewer system in a housing area. I somehow was well liked by the locals, and they trusted me and they thought any work that is done while I was there will be good coz they thought I was honest.
My boss ( the contractor )and the consultant were part of an unwritten agreement where he could compromise a bit with construction standards so that the THEKEDAAR can make some money , coz he had spent a lot in getting the contract..also officers of the other side will get some money ( actually it happens not just there but everywhere which later I realized) . Nevertheless the dashain kharcha u know. The trust that the local public had on me shook me within and I couldn't carry with that. Then when I talked to others, it was just me who was stupid, coz bribing to get a contract, bribing the govt officers ( not all), sub standard construction works is ACCEPTED everywhere. Anywhere u go in Nepal, u r termed stupid if u adhere to the so called values. It was disgusting. I had to keep my job coz it's so hard to find a job in Nepal. But I always felt guilty for the trust the the public had in me and not on my boss. They hated him.
The point is I could have gone to some AYOG? But even the ayog's chief is a corruption suspect. From peon to minister, engineer to secretary , corruption is accepted. LET ME EMPHASIZE THIS POINT, NOT EVERY ONE IS BAD, BUT CORRUPTION IS ACCEPTED.
I then realized it's not just investment brother. We can pour million dollars in Nepal but as long as their mind set is not changed, as long as they think it's absolutely inhuman to compromise their ethics for money, NOTHING'S GONNA CHANGE. what do u think?

Let me give u one more example. I was a teacher for orphan children at this INGO in Lalitpur. The INGO was responsible for giving housing, food and proper education for orphans and sometimes physically disabled children.
I was attached to the kids. I felt I was doing something right but the head of the INGO was a jerk. He was so much consumed in the commission business that u would say he would even sell his near ones for some dollars. How can u sell the faces of those innocent kids. When the donors (foreigners) would come to visit, he would make them dress well, ask them to smile and once the donors would be gone things were back to normal. The kids never understood the business coz they were so young and innocent. He finally fired me saying I couldn't bring progress. Actually he was scared I might spill the beans. The irony is he had to call me back coz the kids specifically requested him to bring me back. I was struggling and had no jobs so I accepted the offer.
To date I believe that was one of the most satisfying jobs of my career. those innocent faces, the joy, the innocence, and the feeling that I could contribute made me feel really good. But the person who ran the INGO was simply selling the happy faces to get more commission and more donation.
Again, corruption, at the cost of orphan kids.
MadDogg bro, I want ur money , ur investment to go into the hands of people who will have high work ethics and those who simply won't start the old business of corruption again.

Thats why bro When I go for my Business adventure.......I want to go financially very strong. Like you said corruption is like a game in nepal from the highest to the lowest....and being Nepalese we all know how to play that system.............BUT IN THE FUTURE...........NO NEED FOR CORRUPTION WHEN EVERY ONE WILL MAKE A LOT OF MONEY AND CAN AFFORD A DECENT LIVING...but again greed for that little more LOL........arent we all the same??? but poverty , greed and not enough money to fulfill ones dreams and demands can make some one corrupt even if that person is not EVIL and is a regular person aiming to reach that next wealth bracket to provide a better life for his family..............If we break the poverty level and provide enough oppertunities to people to advance in life.....Curroption MIGHT just go down .....exceptions are always there but ITS JUST A THOUGHT. I just hate people who scam and take money from the poor like the fake work abroad agencies. They are the ones we should demolish. ONES WHO SCAM THE POOR.

I agree. If only we can bring the poverty level down hopefully the corruption will go down.
Still I believe, more than necessity, it has become a part of life. Like dal bhat. Those who r poorly remunerated only take bribes in hundreds but those who r truly rich , they take bribes in amounts unimaginable. Why do they need so much when they are already wealthy? coz they wanna seize the opportunity to get every ounce they can get.
I tend to think more politically. I dream of a strong independent judiciary system which is not influenced by any party or politics so that all cases can be dealt with fairness. I dream of a strong work force, a bunch of talented motivated young generation who can go after their goals. Finally a govt that is accountable.
