http://www.pranavdhakal.com/ Dear Sajha friends, Pranav Dhakal is our wonderful friend and it is on his behalf we are making this appeal. It is unfortunate that we could not introduce a person so cheerful, optimistic and compassionate in a better circumstance. Throughout these many years of friendship he has endlessly won our hearts with his witty "shayaris", empathetic spirit, and has personally impressed me with his enduring optimism. His motivation to help fellow Nepalese is unequaled. There are many of us whose memories with Pranav began at the airport, where he volunteered to pick up new Nepali students with that big smile on his face. Recently, Pranav was admitted to Overland Park Hospital in Kansas City to get treated for a rare infection. As of now, his condition is very CRITICAL. The infection has spread throughout his body including his heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. His brain has suffered a condition called "sinus thrombosis". Doctors say that it is difficult to cure this condition when only a minimal dose of antibiotics can be administered to him in order to prevent further damage to his kidneys. We felt helpless to see a person as enthusiastic and as motivated as Pranav lying on the hospital bed fighting for his life. This is an appeal on his behalf to pray for him and for his family during this difficult time. This is also an appeal to every one of you to DONATE whatever amount you can to help him cover the medical expenses but more importantly to bring his family members here to care for him. We thank you in advance for all your prayers and support. On behalf of Pranav Dhakal, ~ Friends of Pranav _________________________________________________________ Pranav's Associations: St. Xavier's School - 1996 batch (Kathmandu) Wichita State University (Wichita) Butler County Community College (Wichita) Park University (Kansas City) Pranav was also a resident of Boston, MA. .............................................. DONATIONS CAN BE SENT TO: Amar Bajracharya 13920 W 143rd Ct, Olathe, KS 66062 .............................................. PayPal will be setup SOON. http://www.pranavdhakal.com/ * I apologize for the misleading subject of this thread.

Bijulee, When i read you saying the donation amount won't be even close to a tiny portion of the bill, I was kinda frustrated, why the hell we are then collecting funds if thats just negligible.. but when i read your openions regarding how the fund shd be used, that made sense to me. I have had an experience on claimimg student insurance. It was not great, but it was not that bad too. They covered 80%, which was way beyond just $3000. one has to be very careful to read throughly and claim the max amount possible to get frm them. Do you already have a copy of his insurance card? If you could share the name of insurance provider and school of Pranav, some of us could probably volunteer to find out the policy limits in his case and share that info in shjha form. This may also help when the insurance has to be claimed.

I totally agree with you rose bird. If we know that even the student insurance covers more beyond that. We all are happy to help Pranav as much as we can. If possible, its better if we could get a clear idea on how the funds are being utilized. If more fund is needed I am sure Nepalese and people who love nepalese are willing to help Pranav. I know there are some privacy issues related with this but we are requesting only rough estimates. If we have all expenses (whatever you can) clarified, some organizations will also be able to donate and help in some aspects if they are approached and all nepalese will be interested doing that. Moreover, in www.pranavdhakal.com you have mentioned that the fund is required more importantly to bring the parents to USA !!! This makes us feel that ok if our donated fund are going to bring the parents then its sufficient now. So, I suggest you to change those words to reflect the clear view on how are the collected fund (and the fund collected in the future) will be utilized. Thanks, Sab ko bhalo hos...

And bijulee... try to appreciate and encourage nepalese people to donate by saying good thing about the efforts all people have made. How do you feel when somebody says that the money you donated doesn't even cover a tiny portion ?? Can't it be said this way : "Although money we have collected so far is not going to cover all the expenses, it adds to it and it means a lot to us..." . Thanks, Sab ko bhalo hos....

sabkobhalohos, rose bird and the rest: Let me clear some misreads: When I said, "I do not think the donations we have collected (and will collect) is even going to come close to covering a tiny portion of the total cost", I was talking about the ICU Costs + Recovery Costs. And that is unfortunately the fact. While this being true, it does NOT minimize the collective effort we have seen in the past month to help Pranav and his family. It has indeed been an exemplary effort. I have time and again appreciated the help and support everyone has shown for Pranav on my own behalf and on the behalf of Pranav’s family. I also said, “Personally, I am not too worried about the ICU costs…†because I would like the fund to cover Pranav’s recovery costs FIRST since his treatment at the ICU is non-dependent on whether he can afford that treatment or not, unlike his recovery treatment. I think the fund we have collected should mainly be used for that purpose. Please note that I have no control over the collected fund, however, since I have been treated like “sort of an instigator†to communicate to all concerned; I will oversee how the fund is being used. Amar Bajracharya is the person managing the fund, if you have questions for him you can write to him at help_pranav@yahoo.com. I will, however, not direct anyone on how the funds should be used, AS LONG AS IT IS BEING USED FOR PRANAV. Semi-detailed record of expenditure will be provided in due time. As a friend, my concerns (for now) are limited to: - Pranav getting the best possible treatment after he is released from the ICU - Uncle-Aunti and Mama not having to deal with extra worries - Sharing Pranav’s health updates and more as accurately as possible * sabkobhalohos: some info on “main page†has been amended as per your suggestions. However, the amended info was already available/known to those who read the (mostly) daily health updates. Mansion, Looks like you know nothing about this victim's fund campagion. Janandolan Primary Health Treatment Fund has been setup under the coordination of Haribansha Acharya, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Dr. Sundar Mani Dixit, Dr. Bharat Pradhan, Sambhu Thapa, Kanak Mani Dixit, Gauri Pradhan, Bishnu Nisthuri, Suman Shrestha, Komal Bahadur Chitrakar and Dr. Sumitra Manandhar Gurung. So you can be assured that your donation will not add a brick on minister's flat, but confidently used for the treatment of the injured victims of the ongoing protests. Bijulee, Sorry once again for bringing this note here. I am a very sincere well-wisher of Pranav, but also equally sincere to the country and so we all are... Anyways, I don't want to deviate the purpose of this topic & if Mansion or anyone has to comment on this, lets start a new topic. God bless Pranav..

As of 4/21/06 The latest is that the doctors removed the temporary pacemaker from Pranav. They also changed the intravenous tubes. He still has fever (100.6 as of this morning) so they are trying to isolate the source of infection. His lungs are doing much better. The ventilator is now running at a lower speed (speed is one of the settings that can be manipulated on the ventilator) and Pranav has been encouraged to try and breathe on his own. He is taking occasional gasps between the cycles of the ventilator. The air leak on his right lung is now completely sealed; his left lung is still showing some leak. That is expected to get better as the speed and pressure exerted by the ventilator is reduced and Pranav starts breathing more on his own. Pranav has been feeling a lot of discomfort lately, his is NOT on pain medications and he is also NOT on any antibiotics. They are running tests everyday to find any remnant infection that is causing fever and increase in his white cell counts. His blood pressure and heart rates are slightly elevated.

Time heals everyone/everything. Hopefully Pranab is doing better with time and maybe thats why this thread is fading up. Looks like even Bijulee is tired now. But we shd thank him for all he did and still keep Pranab in our prayers if not in this thread.
