Nepal Solidarity Protest

Venue: The steps of MIT, 77 Mass Ave. Cambridge, MA 02139
Date: Sunday April 23, 2006
Time: 9am-11am

Right now, Nepal is seeing immense protests against the King of Nepal.
They were begun by political parties calling for Democracy but they
have mushroomed into something beyond their control. They have entered
the 18th day, and hundreds of thousands of people country wide have
marched in the streets. No organizer could have predicted this- not
the the political parties and not the Maoists. And they cannot
control it.

Nepal has never seen anything like this in her hsitory.

We recognize that the force that unites them is the same force that
unites us here to protest. It is deeper than politics. It is the
fundamental need for justice, peace and freedom from violence that we
all share. In the heated political environment of the moment, this
voice of our people is being hijacked and killed. The movement should
not be allowed to be hijacked by any extremists either of the right
or the left.

Today we are protesting respectfully and nonviolently to magnify this
basic demand of us, the Nepali people. We are tired of constant
violence and fear. We are tired of years of injustice. We are here as
a matter of duty. Today we speak out as a million Nepali brothers,
sisters, children, mothers and fathers march non-violently at home.

We are here to show solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Nepal
in their call for peace and justice through non-violent protest. And
we demand and end to the violence.

I appreciate the Nepalis in Boston organizing this solidarity protest. It is important to acknowledge that we Nepalis at home and abroad are united together to speak against the injustice that we have suffered. It is neccessary that we do not forget that we are showing our solidarity for peace and non-violence and this definitely can not be acheived with any kind of violence. It is time we Nepalis speak for ourselves !!!

Atul ji, Thank you for organizing this protest program. In Boston, we claim that we have a large Nepali community but we did not see a single organized event (other than posting on Sajha site) when Nepal is boiling over. Hopefully, it will change tomorrow. Dear friends, this is a chance for us to show that we care about what is happening in Nepal. Bring yourself and your friends.

Hello Nepalese all over the World, let protest against Monarchy, and Gyane's dictatorship. We have to trash this monarchy forever, and liberalize every Nepali.
Let's start protest from the Rocky Mountain to Mt. Everest, Asia to through out Europe, Africa to Mideast. Canada to South America as well as Australia, and every state of the USA. We need to remove this dictator, so that every Nepali enjoy the sweet of freedom. Let's weak up Newyorkers, lakyers, Texans, DC- metro. Our friend, families, and relatives are being killed everyday for the Nation's greatest revolution. We heard news everyday, Nepali Janata fight for the rights with empty stomata, without water, without fear without taking rest. PLZ, Nepalese allover the world and our allies come to support this revolution to protect 30 millions people and their human rights, and let everyone live in democratic way. Common Newyoker, DC, TX, CA, CO and all 50 state: let's show the solidarity to our friend, families and all Nepalese.

Take the Kings offer. Constitution can be rewritten. Lives that will be lost with the continuation of this fight can't be regained. Let there be peace. My plea to all involved.
Stop the violence please!!!

Miles away from home, we are concerned and worried about the situation back home. As we gather momentum here away from home, let us not forget what we are fighting for. We are asking for a life free of violence and constant fear. We need to think how Nepal can achieve this - there are no easy solutions but violence is definitely not one of them.

Stripping off the monarch of the executive powers is one step but not the complete solution. We need to think about - 'what next?' - how is the transition of power going to take place in Nepal? People are out on the streets to express their frustration, rage, and anger at the constant betrayal we have faced over the years but would this rage and anger will just remain directed at the king only? If there is anarchy, what will happen - mob psychology is difficult to predict . Who is there to make sure that no more children, women, and men are getting Killed. As the Nepali diaspora, we need to start thinking about these questions. I frankly do not have any answers myself but we need to acknowledge the deeper root of the problem and think of solutions. Politics aside, this is now about our fundamental need for justice and freedom from violence and fear.
