What you guys/gals think? Is dollar value going down or up in Nepal? Somebody earlier mention that the ratio of Nepali Rs to Indian Rs is chaning to to 1.6 to 2. How true is that? Please express your opinion with logic!

It may happen anytime soon as Indian currency is getting stronger compared to Dollars. Will not be surprised if they decide to make Nepali currency independent of Indian currency causing may be one dollars equals 150 Nepali rupees in future.

The cunning leaders of Nepal should try to make nepalese currency to indian one like the bhutanese currency. I'd be the unhappiest one if nepalese currency get weaker again.

India cannot make Nepalese currency independent coz' we are having open border. In my opinion, Nepal Ratra Bank should revalue the exchange rate between INR and NPR. The pegged rate of 1.6 has to be increased to 1.8 to offset the increase in INR rate in compare to USD. If same 1.6 is maintained, it will have more negative impact in the BOP calculation at the year end.

But isn't it in the India's interest to increase the coversion rate from 1.6 or to let the Nepalese currency go by itself?

It's time to sell all your dollars into Nepali rupees. You're going to make a lot of profit. Right now for $1 you get 64 Rupees. Down the road $1 is going to be 61 Rupees. If you sell $100,000 you get RS 6,400,000 When dollar value goes down you can buy back your $100,000 with 6,100,000 Make a profit of 300,000 rupees just by changing money back and forth! Hehe I wish i had $100,000 right now

Kina kina it's just a hunch. The value of dollar has been steadily declining and it may go down further. All in all it's risky business.

If the NPR gets devalued against INR then expect the inflation in Nepal to shoot up quite a bit. However, as all the instability has wrecked havoc with the industries that could have taken advantage of the devaluation, Nepal would not benefit much from it. Instead, due to the rapidly rising inflation, I expect further instability in the country. Hence, despite the economic factors (such as growth rate, inflation etc.) indicating that the NPR should be devalued against the INR, it will not be devalued. If NPR does get devalued against the INR, then the NPR will automatically gets devalued against all currencies. However, if NPR does not get devalued against INR, then there is a distinct possibility that the NPR will appreciate as the demand for US$ in India has declined considerably compared to supply. Also, in the context of Nepal, with all the remittances from Nepalese working abroad, the Nepalese market is saturated with the US $. Hence, the deciding factor would be whether the Nepalese Government would devalue NPR versus INR.
