Mahabharata Arjuna Bhima Veda Yoga Nirvana What is this world coming to? Sounds like bloody Italians are trying to teach me how to speak Nepali. Otherwise, we would still be pronouncing the above as follows: Mahabharat Arjun Bhim Bed (not bhhhheed) or Wed Yog and Nirwan Oh and its Channel V not Channel We (my dear frens from Delhi and Bangalore, pls take note) And it Victoria, not Wictoria I dont want foreigners teaching me how to speak Nepali.

What kind of pride do you want with a language that has not evolved with time. A language that has not word for modern necessisities like , like, like CAR, Internet, Phone, TV. There's a stupidity to be proud of a language which is fading with modern slangs from the native people itself and the foreigners are the one who's trying to keep it alive. Let me ask you something, you don't have problem when Nepali go to the West and pick up English as their Major, do you? I've seen many professor, Nepali, teaching English from school to the University. What do you tink about that? So stop being TOOOO proud of a language which nobody knows about. It's not like French or Spanish.

Yup, I always wondered why Indians pronounce V for W and viceversa. Also, they say "tink" when they want to say "think". Funny Indians.

Duh! That's the key to pronunciation here :) It appears those words are spelled correctly but pronounced incorrectly by many native and non-native speakers alike. I am by no means a Sanskrit or English expert but I believe the "a" at the end of many of those words is pronounced the same way as the vowel sound in the word "duh" (with less emphasis on the h) For example, Arjuna where the last "a" is pronounced the same way as the "a" in the word "Krishna" is correct. (ie Arjun-uh, Krish-uh). Like wise for Mahabharat-uh, Yog-uh etc Which is what I the original intention in spelling it that way was.If you look up most dictionaries thats how the IPA pronunciation is listed. Just a thought.

hahah, Nice one, Hope this Helps. I took Sanskrit Class here in the US. The instructor was awesome. She was Freeking awesome in Sanskrit, had knowledge of Punjabi, a little bit of hindi and Nepali. Due to lack of appropriate Fonts I cannot explain this. There is a way to write these transliteration, its written as Mahabharat a but is pronounced as Mabaharat, but lot of ill fa.gots pronouce the <>a sound. So even though, its Written as Rama, we should pronouce as Rama. if you write yoga, it will be pronounced as Yog... Yoga should be written as yogà ( still not quite correct) Bottom Line, Sometimes its good to learn from Khaires too. The way we pronouce is correct, dhotis are i dont know, F.ucking illeterate..... Dont worry bro, sometimes there aint no harm in saying .....kaaaarrrrmaa, or Dhaaarrrma instead of karma and dharma.

HEll yeahh Its a trademark thing bro.. Globalized world. If these foreigners had not popularised these words worldwide, they would still be pronounced in Nepal and In NEPAL only. So feel glad because someone else who is not of yr skin color is trying to pronounce those words and coming very close to its actual pronounciation. Its OK to me.

Thx for comments and information. I was just wondering what you guys thought about it. Well, I can understand Westerners pronouncing Yoga and Nirvana and blah blah. What surprises me is why are we following suit? May be I am just too proud of my language. ----------------------------------------------------- @@you don't have problem when Nepali go to the West and pick up English as their Major, do you?@@ No if fact I would have a lot of repect for Nepalese who have mastered the Emglish language. Similarly I would have a lot of respect for foreigners who would want to learn nepali. But i thought we were discussing something else here. @So stop being TOOOO proud of a language which nobody knows about@ I dont care how many ppl around the world speak it, but I would still be proud of it :) I love these smileys.
