Does anybody know how can we apply for GC if he/she is in F1 and working on CPT or OPT? Do we necessarily have to go long way through H1b...Isn't there any other option to apply GC straight........... Expert suggestions needed..........

You can man under OPT. I just did it last year you need MS degree and directly apply as other do. Try Fragomen , Chicago cost around 10K. but very reliable.

If you are exceptional academic qualification (like PhD, long experience and many awards)
or other quality (like singer, actor etc) you may file directly for EB1.

If you are willing to pay 8-10K+, have a master's degree, some dhoti bhaiyas will file EB2 for you from their company. these dhotis are doing this all over usa and i already saw some of my friends doing this and they are reliable. you need some network for that. If you are STEM student and is in OPT currently, your OPT can be extended with less money. some of my friends are paying them on installments of 2K for the first month and 1K/month thereafter.
If you have Undergraduate degree, they will file h1B for you on less money and extend your OPT if needed.

I used
200 West Jackson Blvd., Suite 1800 Chicago, IL 60606 USA Telephone: +1 312 263 6101 Facsimile: +1 312 346 1970 Email: Chicagoinfo@fragomen.com
I applied on Oct 06 and got GC in May 07 under EB2 category. I had MS degree and 5 yrs experience from Nepal in Electrical energy. Employer needs to advertize for a couple of months. The ad should exactly match one's qualification. I think the salary should be above some government rate. next is labor certification takes 3 mo. apply 140 and 485 concurently. i think i got my temp EAD good for 1 yr in april. fragomen needs birth certificate too. i think that's it. call fragomen for detail . Contact Lucy.

Aman, Thanks for this great info. I am graduating in Dec 08 from a US univ. Mine is masters in communication (but social science, not engineering). I have already done one masters degree (similar field that I am doing now) from TU, Nepal. I have 2 questions: 1. can I apply from my area of study? or does it need to be a STEM field? 2. Do I need to have an OPT prior beginning this process? or should have graduated to start the process? hope to get suggestions to fit my case.. Thanks aman.

So far I know, You don't have to search a job. They are employers themselves. They create EB2 or H1B category job themselves with in their companies. If they can not, they will refer you to another company who will. they have kind of network around the country. They open job with certain conditions, take interviews and reject everyone except you. that is how you gonna fit in EB2 category and apply for your GC and get it with in a year or so.
If you are trying to get into real job and salary, they will get one for you. but they charge around 10-20% our of your salary. if it is only the matter of GC - method and costs are different. if you have no work experience and no strong academic background, they will put you on a training for few months and make your resume worth of 3 years or more. they make it reasonable but you have to do good on your interview to be selected. thats the tough part.
most of these companies are related to technical field. If you are STEM student, it would be easier for them to work with you.
I do not have companies informationo handy. I may update in few days if i get the info from friends. some of my friends did this and they are already accepted for H1B and EB2 category. good for them.
good luck !!
