Hi all,
I am going to nepal in november. I have my H1 paper with me which is through consultancy. I have heard about people having trouble getting their visa stamped in nepal whose h1 is through consultancy. many people suggest not to go to nepal for visa staming if your h1 is through consultancy as consultancies don't have good impression in immigration services. My background is in electrical engineering and have been employed through consultancy. many people know how this work, right?

does anyone know their friends who have their h1 through consultancy who have gone to nepal for visa stamp. n also there are no dates available in mexico and candada for visa interview.

If i could know single person who have his/her visa stamp in nepal despite having h1 through consultancy, that would be great relief and any suggestions would be apreciated.

thanks

I had my H1 visa stamping last November without any problem. They just asked me couple of questions and that was it. If you've all the required documents (go to the website of US embassy), then I don't think you've any problems. Goodluck!

I think there shouldn't be any problem. I think computer science or engineering comes under electrical engineering so don't need to worry about that.

Thanks

Although there might not be any problems, I do recommend that you go there well prepared.  One of my friends recently went for stamping in Kathmandu (currently working for a consulting firm) was given somewhat of a hard time.  They did a thorough research on the company (history, tax payments etc.) and even asked for pictures of the building (both inside and out) to make sure the business was legit.  They also asked for detailed information about the clients the company is working with.  So be well prepared to answer the questions.

nepalikanchhu bro,

Yes, I was also employed through consultancy. Even I've a degree in Comp. Engineering and they didn't ask why I changed my field. I don't think it's a problem unless you either have engineering/computer science/IT background. As mr.august suggested, ofcourse you've to be well-prepared for the interview to tackle any kind of questions. The consulting company should have clean history. In my case, they asked me where I work and if I like that place. They also asked me to describe the job that I'm doing. Like I said, if you prepare all the required docs as mentioned in US embassy website, I don't think you should have any problem unless you yourself have clean background history too.

OK dude, I was in Kathmandu last Dec. for H1-B stamping. My H1-B is through Consultancy. Though I had to wait for 2 weeks for interview (because there were lots of student applying that time), it went smoothly. I even forgot to put my pay stub that time and they didnot even ask for that either. Earlier I had written  an email to them if they can expedite my interview date, for which they did not respond at all. But during the interview she said ,"...I know you have to wait for so long but this is the busiest time of the year" for which my response was , "..I can understand" aside from that they asked .....how long did I stay in US, what did I do (Undergraduate ?) though I had included everything (as a matter of fact i did master, i had done Undergraduate from somewhere else)......what do you do for this company......???? are you here to visit your family?......everything very causal ...........I didnot mention anything about my company cum consultant (actually they won't ask I guess, so you don't have to tell all those B.S., just tell them you work for this company and you do...bla bla...what ever they have written in your so call appointment letter, no need to mention about project and all those crap)  and my student visa hadn't  expire that time therefore she said, "I will cancel your student visa and have H1-B stamped".....so it was as simple as that......hope this helps everyone out there

I am also going to Nepal soon to get H1B stampled. Any one could tell me if I need to make an advanced appointment for the visa interview? If yes, what is the website for that? Thanks

I had similar experience back in April/May 08. I was with Consulting Firm based out of Chicago, IL.

Had an interview on April 25th, consular gave a yellow slip which asked few extra

documents from my employer eg, employer tax return (notarized copy), pay stub, picture of workplace (client), picture of employer(consulting company), original job offer letter, etc etc...They kept my file there but handed my passport back to me in case I want to leave Nepal in that time. I was asked to drop the additional doc at the consular section and wait until "consular section calls us" to inform their decision. No timeline was given.

It took 3 weeks for me to get the doc from my employer (I was asked original

doc). Then I went to drop that off and waited for 2 weeks and didn't get any call, so I

escalated the issue with my employer in the US. They contacted lawyer and came to know that all the pending cases in Nepal or elsewhere have to be approved by

State Department located in Washington DC. My employer contacted State Dept and inquire about my case and came to know visa has been approved. Further, my employer called US Consular, Ktm to expedite but to no avail. You should be pressurzing your employer to check your case with State Dept and request to expedite that in Nepal. Your employer can help to reduce your wait time in Nepal.

I got my approval in exact 3-week time after submitting all the original doc.

Based on my experience, consulting firm should be clean on all fronts eg, taxes, pay rolls, no labor complaints etc etc. If  there are any issues, then H1Bs will be in trouble. Make sure there is no complaints against your employer in DOL. This is important if you are with Consulting Firm.

Excerpts of Q and A between Consular and myself:

Q: How did you get a job?

A: Some explaination….

Q: How many employees there?

A: I don’t know how many with my employers but 5 of us in my team working at client site.

Q:  Please give me the names of H1Bs with your employer?

A: Don’t know except X who I worked with in one of my last projects.

Q: Give me the names?

A: I don’t know other peoples name.

Q: What is your base Salary?

A: some Ks and it changes on project to project.

Q: So that is your Contract Salary not the Base Salary?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you have your employment letter?

A: Yes, in my file.

Q:  When did you get Married ?

A: XX-XX-2008

Q: Marriage Certificate?

A: Yes, in file. (I had marriage cert from local ward office).

Q: This piece of paper doesn’t work you should get international marriage certificate?

A: Ok. I can get another one.

**That's all Q and A I can remember now.

I hope this info helps to people who are worried about getting stamped in KTM. My only suggestion is to be very well prepared to handle tough questions if you are employed with Consulting Firm.

Good luck to you all.
