China - a friend... that is the biggest mistake one can make. Everyone has their own agenda. No one is friend and if it were not for the Indians, the Chinese would have taken over Nepal a decade ago. What we need to do is to play those two countries against each other and benefit from their rivlary

If our country starts developing, all the Nepali students currently studying at foreign countries will definitely come back to join their hands in this greater developing effort. Let's again try to make it a "Zone of Peace", and create a qualitative and secured job environment for all!!

Let's develop our country with the existing territory, and make a greater effort to seal the open Indo-Nepal borders at all points. we need to make a 'No man's land' on all territories upto a 500 meters distance from our side, and give employment to all our armies to protect our our territorial security. This way we can start our 1st phase in the development of our country.This will give employmet to all our Nepal Army+PLA an employment opportunity. Unless the open border is sealed from India, our country can never progress. This is a very true fact, and you can ink down my statement.

The Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Mr. Qiu Guohong has stressed that a peaceful and stable Nepal was in the larger interest of China.

Ambassador Guohong made this remark while inaugurating Nepal-China Friendship Society in Barahabise, Sindhulpalchowk District on Saturday December 27, 2008.

“China has ever supported Nepal and will continue to support Nepal in its prosperity in the future as well”, said the ambassador adding, “We are thankful to Nepal that it helped build a bridge between China and South Asia”.

“Nepal has built a bridge between China and South Asia, we hope that Nepal will help China establish economic relations with other countries as well”.

“Nepal-China relations are higher than the Mount Everest and that the tallest peak in the world even cannot stop China and Nepal coming closer in the days ahead.”

“I am totally committed to increase trade between the two countries by ten-fold, run various development activities in the bordering areas and also ensure that Nepali and Chinese citizens can visit each other’s countries without VISA”.

We lost the land to east india company and east india company left the land to India. We are neither capable to fight with India nor we are able to make any significant argument to the rest of the world. Nepal has no value to draw anyone's attention. If we had some sort or huge natural resource (please dont mention Hydro Electricity) such as Gold, Diamond, or Oil then we could have gotten some voices from the powerfuls of this world just to be exploited by those who would advocate for us.

I hate to admit that this is a messy subject and we are in a loose loose situation. Some one had mentioned before somewhere that it could be an indian ploy to make this issue visible, so visible to the world that india actually gets a valid reason to invade Nepal and capture of rest of what is  Nepal. All they need is a good enough reason right now, especailly when US is preparing india to compete with China in this Region.

sister don't worry too much about India invading Nepal yaar.  It should be other way.
India should be worried about Nepal forming alliance with China~the Greatest Country on Earth,
and other nations.
Nepal has close friendship with China, Japan, UK. And if India do attack Nepal,
then it would be our victory.
No body in the world likes India or the Indian. The Indians thinks and believes that everyone likes
them. They thinks everyone loves Bollywood and curry food.
We(Nepal) have enough nations to back us up.
Remember when WWI and WWII started, Nepal was the first nation beside UK to declare war on the
aggressors.
Other country joined in later. It can be said that Nepal save the world.

Other friendly nations towards Nepal are, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand, Korea (S.&N.) and much more.
I don't why but many nations on earth love Nepal. It is the birthplace of Lord Buddha remember now,
roof of the world and home of the Bravest of the Braves could be some main reasons.

the first thing nepal should do is "allow chinese businessmen to run business in Southern nepal" then lets see what Indians gonna do. Any comments???????

According to 1950 treaty no foreigner is allowed to invest or do business near certain kilometers of Indian border to Nepal. Not sure about the exact distance.

Also, Nepal government requires a "go ahead " from India to let any foreign country beside India to get involved in any kind of development project in Nepal. This is what the treaty  holds..please feel free to correct me if i am wrong here.

Nepal is a small country, with PEACE, Hydro electricity potential, tourism, Religion ( commercialization for Buddhism and Hinduism, identifying Nepal as Mecca and Vatican City for Muslims and Christian), Herbs, Foreign employment managed correctly, its should not take long for Nepal to prosper and by prosperity i dont mean becoming SINGAPORE immediately, by that i mean prosper enough as in Nepal can create an environment for every Nepalese who wants to make RS 12000 and up can find work.

India knows this and it would be shameful for them to see Nepal prosper because India is a bigger mess and just cannot be fixed so easily. India has developed so much in last 25 years but the number of 300 million poor people has not moved down at all. The number of poor people is almost the same even after 25 years of growth.

India is going to use Nepal per 1950 treaty or a new treaty not very different from the old one. So its virtually impossible for us to use china card against india. All we can do is irritate india and thats  all we can do.

Indians are clever by nature BUT dirty as well.  I have no idea about this 1950 treaty sidster.

But sidter then again, this treaty is old now and was signed by the Shah/Rana government. It's history now.
There's no more Shah/Rana government now. It's Republic of Nepal.
Therefore this treaty cannot be recognized at all now. Even then when the treaty was signed, Nepalese people
were never asked for any opinions. It's just the MOFO SHAH and his puppet government who signed the deal.
Were the Nepalese/ JanaJatis ever consulted on this? Never.
So this treaty is NOT valid especially today when Nepal has new government.
We still do not know how many and what other kinds of treaty this MOFO Shah and his puppet government signed with India.

Secondly there's no rule in this world where they said that you cannot let any foreign nations to open up/invest
business in your own country(Nepal) border.
We(Nepal) can seek this injustice from the UN and the World court regarding this issue.
As long as we are within our border, no country has the power to stop us from letting foreign country invest in along our southern border.

    China and Nepal have enjoyed close ties for more than 2,000 years. The shared mountains and rivers are manifestations of the perennial natural links between the two ancient countries. The intimate bilateral cultural and spiritual links have continuously been nurtured and promoted by Buddhism, which itself was expounded by Shakyamuni Gautama Buddha (about 563-483 BC), who was born in Lumbini, a township in the Rupendehi district of modern day Nepal.

Master Buddhabhadra (AD 359-429), Princess Bhrikuti (AD 617-649) and Architect Arniko (1245-1306) from Nepal; and Wenshu (Manjushri), Master Monks Fa Xian (AD 360-430) and Xuan Zang (AD 602-664), and Tibetan King Srontsan Gampo (AD 617-649) from China all have contributed to the dissemination of Buddhism in China.

Nepali people, for example, the Kirats and the Newars from the Arun and Kathmandu Valleys, together with the Lamas and Sherpas from the high mountain environs, have been conducting social and trade interactions with Tibet for centuries via the world's highest mountain passes located along the more than 1,400-km-long China-Nepal border.

Notwithstanding their ancient ties, the two countries took some years to duly modernize their state-to-state relationship. And while planning and conducting their international affairs independently, both faced foreign interference.

On August 1, 1955, the two signed an agreement establishing diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level. Probably reflecting on the situation at that time, on September 30, 1950, Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai said in his report: "China shall never tolerate any foreign invasion nor shall it watch it taking place in any neighboring country with folded arms."

On October 2, 1961, Chinese Vice-Premier and Foreign Minister Chen Yi during a visit to Kathmandu echoed Zhou when he said: "China will not tolerate any aggression against Nepal by any country."

Forty-six years later, Zheng Xianglin, the new Chinese ambassador to Nepal, specifically reconfirmed the intergenerational continuity in China's anti-foreign invasion and interference policy towards Nepal in his exclusive interview with a national weekly (Nepal, June 17, 2007). What serious observers discerned from Zheng's interview was that there was an expansionist geopolitical nexus between the activities of splitist Tibetan forces, use of Nepali territory and China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. It was in this context that Zheng asserted China's long-standing Nepal policy.

In the competitive 21st century world environment, foreign invasion and interference has acquired a political-commercial-information interface with the intricacy of smart and soft industrial diplomacy. The key operational objective of a foreign invasion and interference is first to dislocate the national institutions and its unifying indigenous forces and then thoroughly destabilize the political processes to control or impair the target country's national decision-making capability. In the invasion and interference process, the secondary power at the regional level lacking self-confidence in conducting an independent, transparent foreign and defense policy has always been prone to goad the powers pursuing smart and soft industrial diplomacy.

As a consequence, Nepal needs China's proactive cooperation for putting the modern instruments in place to effectively combat foreign invasion and interference. With the passing of time and lessons learned, it is commendable that leaderships in both countries have increasingly started to realize that Sino-Nepali ties require a more creative and innovative futuristic approach than a mere qualitative exposition of historical and geographic ties.

Perhaps fully aware of the imbalance in the existing overall bilateral relation and its 21st century requirements, then Chinese President Jiang Zemin enunciated a good neighborly partnership (GNP) framework for bilateral ties when he visited Nepal in December 1996. It is significant that Jiang's enunciation of the GNP framework was made at a time China was planning a West China Development Strategy (WCDS) covering 12 territorial units of the country including the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) and Sichuan Province.

The WCDS's positive geopolitical and socio-economic impacts on the greater Trans-Himalayan region including Nepal, to say the least, were far-reaching.

On July 1, 2006 - the day the Chinese national railway was successfully extended to Lhasa, the Tibetan capital and roof of the world - the Trans-Himalayan region felt such an impact. Under the WCDS the Chinese government in 2006 alone invested $20.4 billion in key transport, communication and energy projects.

Describing the importance of the TAR in the context of the total scheme of national development in general and the WCDS in particular, President Hu Jintao, who was then vice-president, on July 19, 2001, said: "Tibet is in the southwestern frontier of the motherland, with a vast stretch of land and a most important strategic position. The development, stability and security of Tibet have a direct bearing on the fundamental interests of people of all ethnic groups in Tibet as well as ethnic solidarity, national unity and state security. It is the common aspiration and mission of people of all ethnic groups in China, the Tibetan people included, to build on the prosperity and progress and maintain stability and solidarity in Tibet."

As a matter of fact the WCDS's forward linkages with Nepal suitably constitute the foundation for China-Nepal socioeconomic ties in the 21st century. It was against the backdrop of such foundation work, Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji and Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala signed six cooperative agreements, which included the second road link between the two countries when the former visited Nepal in May 2001.

But the condemnable massacre of the entire family of Nepal's King Birendra in June 2001 and the intensification of foreign interference in Nepal's internal affairs demonstrated the critical need of a reassertion of China's anti-foreign invasion and interference policy that unflinchingly and resolutely supports Nepal's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

It is noteworthy that Nepali Prime Minister Koirala even at the personal level feels honestly committed to a one-China policy. During his upcoming visit to China, leaderships in both countries look set to steer Sino-Nepali relation toward new heights. Their bilateral effort is understood to have received unprecedented support through China's multilateral role in Nepal's peace process under UN Security Council Resolution of 1740 (January 23, 2007) whereby the UN reaffirms Nepal's sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.

Predictably Sino-Nepali relation in the 21st century will be trailblazing like the 2008 Olympic Torch relay that will not only enlighten the global village on its way but also rejuvenate civilizations on either side of the great Himalayas.

China or India doing something for Nepal is day-dream friends. They can certainly help but we have to do the rest on our own. If we depend too much on either of them, they will definitely take unnecessary benefits. So, it could be wise to stop praising and bashing other; both are equally important for the development of Nepal.

About, taking permission from India and Indian investment! That is just a crap. Neither India has fully complied with that treaty nor Nepal has. And, there is no any background or supporting treaty India could claim Nepal as their part. Raising such question is just humiliation for us. I would humbly request folks to stop such talks!

For now, we need to focus on current Nepal not the greater or small. No region should allowed autonomous state or self decision capability that would disintegrate Nepal. Limbuwan, Tamuwan, Madhesiwan or whatever are rats. They are to be crushed right at the neck.

And that comment by Chinese ambassador about Nepal-China friendship being taller than Mount Everest is just a platitude.  That's what the diplomats say.  I guess he had to say something nice that nobody would question, so he said it.  But that's what it is.  Words.  It would be stupid, ignoramus, idiotic of any Nepali to think more of it.

Connection to China is only one through tatopani, there might be more, but they are closed most of the year due to snow and ice.  Himalayas that we are so proud of are also great natural barrier from our neighbor to north.  Beijing is far far away from Nepal border.

Connection to India is vast.  East, West, and South.  Almost unprotected.  Our culture is pegged to theirs.  Our currency is pegged to theirs.  Our market is pegged to theirs.  Like it or not, Indians have their hooks on us.

While Indians have done some good in Nepal, lot of the times it is their national interest to keep Nepal subservient.  And for what it's worth, I bet they have already made a deal with Chinese to keep Nepal under their sphere of control.  All these bastards are looking out for themselves.

I don't think China or India or any other country would be interested to take Nepal as is said easily. Forget about China, India, US or UK or EU, even Bhutan will refuse to take Nepal even if the whole Nepalese people vote and ask Bhutanese government to take over.

All of these foreign influences are only interested in putting their puppet nepalese in power, and run a proxy diplomatic war - making nepalese life miserable.

it is nothing but day-dreaming.

Occupying foreign territory is not a joke or the coffee talk, it needs huge plan and preparation of squads to fight on diplomatic front, legal front, military front, and domestic unity. We have nothing except some weak articles, which are being circulated by the agents of RAW, to fulfill their mission. These articles are tools launched through stupid intellectuals in foreign interest to mobilize the public centiment, divert them from key issues for vested interest.

 Ultra Nationalism will help nobody. Why do they bring this kind of shit over here? Well, there is no point in bringing this kind of  issues over and over again. Nepal might have been bigger and smaller before but now it is what it is.. Several countries were bigger and smaller in past like Austro-Hungarian Empire , Ottoman Empire .......etc. Better we should put pressure on government about the border control and correction. Nepali are nepali nomatter where they are borders dont control them....So please be pragmatic, already there are several lunatics who are playing this kind of thing in politics ...just stop.....
