**A novice’s attempt on sharing a story – part fiction, part fact, albeit exaggerated, but very close to the heart! If my mere attempt ends up doing injustice to ANYONE or my typos and mediocre vocab irritate the nerve cells, apologies extended in advance! February, 1996 “burp_aloud@yahoo.com would like to add you to his/her yahoo messenger. Accept / Reject” was what popped up one cold winter night when she logged in to her yahoo messenger. She giggled at the ‘creativity’ of the yahoo id and for some unknown but undeniable reason she clicked ‘Accept’ “Hey Sheila!” She, “Hey! Who’s this?” “This is Burpy ” She, “That I know, but how does Burpy know Sheila?” “He just knows :D” She, “???????????????” ……………………………………………….. “Buzz” “Buzz” “You there?” “You backed out already? I heard U were a tough lady” “OK! If truth is what it takes to keep u from blocking me, we share a common fren & NO, I did not ask her to hook me up with you. I saw you in her pictures and just wondered if we could talk sometimes” She, “Fair enough” Burpy, “So, k ma timro sathi banna sakchu?” She, “:-s” Burpy, “I don’t know if that’s a yes, but I m sure it’s not a NO” She, “” Burpy, “U took a while to reply to my fren’s request there” She, “I don’t really use these messengers as much. It just so happened that I had to check my emails tonight, but I gtg now” Burpy, “Will I see U tomorrow again?” She, “IDK! Bye” ……………………………… Then, she heard her phone ring, caller – Unknown! “Yes??” she answered. A familiar voice at the other end said, “Hey Babe!” It was her boyfriend! “Hajjjjur”……. They were thousands of miles apart, yet he never failed to call her every week and every time he called, she still found the same affection he first bestowed to her 6 years ago. She well remembered the tears that trickled down his cheeks, besides his futile attempt to hide them behind his dark ray bans, when she left for the United States almost a year ago. She could still fathom his profound concern about her during their brief talk-times and feel his voice quiver every time they hung up. She always felt that he loved her way more than she actually did! She was blessed to have his angelic figure around her, until that night, which would change her life forever! ------------to be continued

I appreciate all your inspirational words folks! Thank you for reading :) Here comes the next sequel ... Part IV September 1998 Despite the anxiety and stress of being the newest addition to a busy growing business firm, Burpy was doing well at work. At the end of a stressful day, he shared every detail with her – most of which she comprehended, some of them she pretended to ;) She attentively listened and appropriately responded to his spontaneous narration not being tad bit bored. They were the best of friends, best of couples and the best stress-busters for each other. One fine weekend, he decided to fly down to see her – an unplanned but a pleasure time off of their hectic schedules. This time he found her even better in every aspect from the last time he saw her! Modest compliments and unprecedented compatibility attributed in many ways to make this simple trip the best vacation they both could ask for. They were living every moment of this togetherness to its fullest ~ from visiting unusual spots to taking goofy pictures, to heading to gym together, to being the finest of company for the other half! On the third day of his trip, when they were dining together, Burpy received a call from his mother. Unknown of the fact that her son is vacationing with his girlfriend, she asked him to return home immediately citing an emergency. The reason and severity of the ‘emergency’ unknown, Burpy flew back to his town the very next morning leaving Sheila in a state of mixed emotions. With him gone at an instance so very unplanned, she was panic stricken with severe anxiety. She wished she could have gone along, but with the fear that her surprise introduction into the family might not prove appropriate at this hour of ‘unknown emergency’ she stayed back, counting on him to take care of the issues that she couldn’t interfere upon. Days of silence followed while she waited on him to get back to her with some kind of news. Not that she didn’t try reaching him herself, but only to find his voicemail in his cell phone and his mom on the land line. She wouldn’t dare revealing herself to his mom, when her son himself couldn’t dare to take the risk! All she could do was wait and wait and wait for stretching hours that seemed to kill her every moment. Then, her phone finally vibrated one day. Her heart skipped a beat for she could sense an uneasy eeriness, from how the situation was coming along; which multiplied ten folds when she heard his sullen ‘hello’. “Baba, what’s going on? I’ve been trying to get hold of you every single minute. I send you so many emails. I’ve been scared to death. Are you okay? Is everything okay? I missed you so bad!” She down poured it all! “I m okay maya! But …..” Sheila, “But …what..??” Burpy, “But everything is not okay! I got caught up with a situation that I just couldn’t avoid” “What kind of situation? What are you trying to say? I am not getting it.” Burpy, “I m sorry honey, I tried my best. I tried all I could to avoid this situation, but…but……” “I m having to get married….the day after tomorrow.....” She did not hear much after that, but could feel her heart sinking, her world darkening, and hopes and dreams crumbling down. All those moments, giggles, and tears shared, milestones achieved and effort put into coming this far, went down the drain that too in a matter of seconds, leaving her awfully wooed, once again! ..............................

Thank you for liking it and encouraging me :) Part V October 1999 The wind was swaying very differently for Sheila! Life was never the same like it was or like the way she wanted. She missed being his source of inspiration and carrying that energy over to make it hers’! Every now and then she spent hours thinking what if things had not changed, what if she could make plans of seeing him her forthcoming spring break, what if she could call him at his work amidst his busy schedule just to whisper a soft ‘I miss you’, what if and what not….She was over with the toughest time frame of her life! She was over being devastated, she recuperated in her studies, she no more felt like killing herself, no more drove to far away empty spots where she could scream in his absence, she no more frequented the places the two had visited together to cherish her memories, no more cried herself to sleep or awaken to have realized he did not call her that morning. Yet, she couldn’t get over asking herself if she ever crossed his mind, just like he did everyday! Change was coming along one at a time. She resumed her diet and her daily life style. She did not know if she was happy but she was definitely not sulking any more. She hadn’t forgotten, but she had learned to smile and laugh once again. The untimely disappearance of one of the most vital person of her life left her torn but she was learning to take one thing at a time, slowly but successfully. But, no matter how hard she tried to avoid, she often found herself dwelling in thoughts and imaginations of the past, the bitter/sweet memories which she had learnt to live with. One evening, when she was browsing during her regular web-hours, a window popped up – ‘burp_aloud@yahoo.com is online’. Thoughts beyond words started racing, nostalgia over-poured and she clicked at the window to see his display picture. It was changed from the last time she saw him in that blue J-Crew shirt! It was an American Eagle this time and no he wasn’t by himself! This time there was a female figure standing next to him. After almost like a year, she found her pulses pounding again like a bat out of hell and could feel that adrenaline rush. She clicks on the display picture not to look at him or her, but to look at THEM, how close they were standing! That she is his legally married wife, that they spend their days and nights together was not a concern at that point of time for Sheila. She just wanted to see if he was standing close enough to her, within the physical proximity that they could feel each others’ warmth. Upon realizing that he in fact has his arms around her, just like in their last picture together where Burpy stands right next to Sheila; she found her eyes soaked, heart overwhelmed, and histrionic herself wooed, once again! .................................................

Part VI November 2009 “Mom, can I come to the movies with you and daddy? Please??” Five years old Mili came running as she was getting ready. She gave a quick smile at her husband; he could tell she wanted him to answer for her. “Oh sure honey, let’s go get dressed while mom finishes hers and then we will all go have a good time”, he picked little Mili up and walked out of the room. As Sheila turned back at the mirror to finish her touch ups, she couldn’t help thinking how blessed she was to have such a wonderful family, the most thoughtful and loving of all husbands any wife could ever ask for and their precious bundle of joy! After a tough day at work, she had two beautiful smiles waiting on her that would instantly work to relieve her exhaustion. Her husband was all ears anytime she wanted to share any of her stories, from Gary being promoted, to David retiring, to Michelle having an affair with the IT guy. He could tell if she had a bad day at work without her even looking at him, she need not explain to him that her feet hurt, she need not remind him of her allergy, she need not ask him for his help, he would know about it before she even thought of summoning him; someone who seemed like would never get tired of loving his wife. He was one of the best things that happened to her, her best friend, her guardian and the best person who could have fathered her beautiful child. “Momma, are u ready yet? Lets go momma, lets go”, she was suddenly interrupted from her epileptic state with her daughter’s ahoy from downstairs. “I m coming honey”, she said as she grabbed her purse and winked to herself at her final glance in the mirror. “You look wonderful tonight”, said her husband as he gave her a quick peck! “Alright, so we going for dinner and then to the movies, does that sound alright?” “Yes Daddy” As they headed to the movies after a great dinner, Sheila could feel a tremendous vibe that night, for some reasons unknown. It just did not seem like it was because of their anniversary alone. She was a successful lady, a great mother and a happy wife now. Gone were the days when her troubled past hurt her emotions. She had wasted enough of her lifetime trying to cherish memories of something/someone long gone. 10 years is indeed a long time! In fact, she now felt she hardly has any time to dwell in that misery. Whenever she went down the memory lanes, she learned only to explore the good part, the part that taught her to respect honesty, the part that taught her to respect love, and the part that taught her to respect devotion. She was rather quite on the road that night, busy thanking her destiny and the great Almighty for what she had been blessed with. She had thrived through thorny roads and now she had everything any modest human would wish for! As they were about to enter the movie hall, Mili asked for some pop-corn. “Let me go use the wash-room, while you guys go get some pop-corn. We will meet here”, said her husband. Sheila nodded and took Mili to the theatre hot-dog store. As they waited in line for their turn for the pop-corn, “Heyyy Stranger” a familiar male voice was heard from behind them. There was a different, but familiar aura in that voice. The voice that once boggled her mind and travelled deep down her heart. Forgiven but not forgotten! She couldn’t abstain from ignoring that call. She instantly turned around, just couldn’t resist! “Hie, there” “How’ve you been Sheila?” “I m good…….good. How’ve you been?” “Pretty good myself… been a long while eh?” That simple statement hit her hard, forced to remember both the good and bad things she went through, the happiness she shared and the sorrows she endured. She felt as if it was trying to scratch the scar that had barely healed, as if it was teasing her, and all that she did to retain the relationship she cherished for life. Over-reacting in a way, justifiable in many! A gentle grab of her index finger by Mili brought her back to reality. Sheila smiled at her and then looked back at Burpy. “You alright, Sheila?” “Yea, yea… I m fine, thanks” “You know it’s been so long, I almost forgot you”, he paused. Sheila smiled back and said, “Don’t worry, you will!” As she said that, she mustered up courage to look directly into his eyes, she saw his eyelids flutter. She felt like it touched him this time, touched him deep down inside. It probably did woo him for the very first and the very last time in both of their lifetime! *************The story ends, but life continues******

Interesting.. But you took a decade long jump there. Anything significant happened between 1999 and 2009? How did Sheila end up finding the right man of her life? Also, I'm sure it is fictional, but yahoo messengers back in 1996-97, and www.sajha.com back then..? Maybe you could push it further to 2000-2001? Ironically, some of the character names you mentioned on Part VI happen to match the ones at my workplace, which I found pretty funny. Anyway, very good narration. Hope to read more from you, dude.

Akarshan, it made me feel good that you were actually following even the smallest details of the story. I m sorry to have disappointed you over that decade long jump, and I agree, there were a lot of events that happened during that time period, let's just call it 'Not Significant' between Burpy and Sheila. And yes, the dates are purely fictional. As ironical as the character names are, equally significant they are to the story. I wonder where you work at ;P For everybody who have been so kind enough to stop by and drop their words of honest encouragement, my mere thank you doesn't even measure a bit up to it. But saying this, I cannot get away just like that without returning back few words of appreciation. This was really my first attempt at TRYING to make a story out of the excerpt from my diary. Thank you all for liking it. Something that I thought would be a big joke really turned out to be a 'good' story, as per you guys'! So thank you ! In the days to come, I will definitely share anything that's worth your time. Appreciate your company in this cherished journey of strange emotions !!
